While the backgrounds were so pretty and very realistic at times, it kind of clashes with the character art so that pulls you out for a bit. (Mostly that scene with Aoi and Kumiko in the bench, plus that montage bit)

How many guys were there in the concert band? Tuba-sempai, Timpani-kun, Shuuichi, the Trombone leader, and.. I think there's someone in the woodwinds too? I think I counted 6 from the silhouettes in the OP.

But anyway, episode 2 was nice. Hope there's gonna be instrument playing soon.

I like how her tone quality was depicted as talented amateur, instead of professional.

If this show goes as I expect it to, don't expect performances like they were in Shigatsu; one was about a prodigy and this is about normal high school kids.

I think the district band competition in North Carolina had the top score as Superior, then Excellent, Fair, and Poor?

This is gonna be a personal favorite, though I'm hoping in vain this won't affect me as much as a musician like Shigatsu did.

Yeah, this kind of situation sucks. Hard to build up momentum, and the teacher is kind of not helping, even if it's effective in telling them their problems.

I'm siding with the teacher here. He could've handled it better, but he's right. They're total shit at the moment, and they clearly aren't all that into it. Ever tried teaching someone who doesn't want to learn? Ever tried talking to someone who doesn't want to listen? It's like talking to a brick wall. Trying to teach them at this point is going to be a complete waste of his time and theirs.

And who made the Nationals the club's goal for the year? Not him. And after hearing what transpired the year before, the club really has a lot of baggage that needs some clearing out.

Um...there seems to be some tension between Kumiko and her sister. Short, but very noticeable.

Why's everyone calling the main girl Hibiki anyway?

Does anyone know if the green-haired girl with the bangs over her eyes has been given a name yet? Do we at least know her instrument? Asking because she's the cutest character so far.

Much like in the case of Haruhi and K-on (both of which fully-profiled EVERYONE in their respective classes), I expect the full Brass Band Club roster to be included in the Blu-Rays.

I think that's the point. Having come from a school band that had a lot of non-devoted members, I sympathize a lot. I do think the teacher is a little asshole-ish for just saying "Okay well you're not good enough for me yet so bye," but maybe that's just a cultural difference thing with teachers.

Well, his job isn't to teach them how to play their instruments. His job is to make sure they can coordinate. If they can't even play their own instruments properly, there's nothing for him to teach them.

It goes back to the "three years pass in a flash" thing. Look at those fucking clairinetists. They're just sitting there making faces at each other; what's the point of them being there at all?

(I didn't think it was that bad, it wasn't pro at all but I have respect for anyone who can at least somewhat play an instrument. Unless it's a ukulele or three chords on an electric guitar. They aren't "hopeless.")

They're aiming for national competition. You need a bit more than the ability to create vaguely musical noises for a few minutes for that.

Still unprofessional of the teach to not do anything else.

Own high school director was a lot more strict and even mean, but he got shit done, even with slackers (this kind of problem not really happening in college, at least the one I was at)

So this dude needs to do something too, like kicking some ass.
