Does Not Illustrate: Granola Girl

I've changed the image on Granola Girl to one of an actual Granola Girl. Someone is requesting that this thread be started. In the meanwhile, it is fixed.

Wow, yeah. that old one was definitely actively misleading about the trope.

The new one is better, but best would be if we can find something from a work...

The new image just looks like a cute hippie girl. The old one looks trendy like the laconic says. She also has the recycle sign on her bag. I'm not sure what her shirt says, something-free.

Hmm Phoebe from Friends instantly comes to mind but I can't find anything quite decent.

The point of the trope is not being "trendy", but the whole naturalist thing and such. So yes, eyebones's image is better than the old one.

Definite improvement.

EDIT: Going through the examples, the only thing I can find that might work as an actual demonstration is the first panel of this◊.

Ohh, I rather like Lola Granola.

How about the first three frames, like this? (it may be artifacted I had to move, crop and shrink to get it under the file-size limit... If someone else wants to clean it up, feel free, I won't be upset.)

I put frames 2 and 3 in there because it seemed to me that the fact she was trying to introduce nude yoga to the Amish just underline the "idealistic and not entirely overflowing with common sense" aspects of the character type.

The first panel could work on its own, I think, but having all three doesn't hurt. Here's a different take...I had to save it as a high-bit JPG, a straight PNG was way too big even with compression.

I find the text a little annoying, but sure, it works. Not sure if it's better than the one on the page, though.

Old image was perfect. Bags with recycleable signs on them, shirt that says cruelty free, trendy fashionable clothes and a coffee in hand. The replacement image was just a generic hippie, as is the Bloom County character.

I don't think someone who looks so much part of the wasteful consumer society to fit the trope. At all. And as pointed out, "trendy" isn't part of the description.

That's not a coffee in hand. It's an organic smoothie. see◊

The first panel of the Opus webcomic works well on its own. In fact, I think it looks worse with the extra panels.

The new pic looks like hippie cosplay to me.

"Granola Girl" and "Glamour" don't go together in the trope, the character type. A Granola Girl isn't concerned with "glamour." "Glamour" and being glamourous is antithetical to what she's all about.

She's not "trendy" either, not the way "trendy" is generally used — "following or concerned with the latest trends" and she's not concerned with being fashionable.

That laconic was just flat out wrong. The image was misleading. The page quote is a much better encapsulation of the trope: A dirty hippie — only without the dirt.

Apparently Earth Mother Gaia isn't opposed to capris and generic smoothies.

I don't think most of the hippies in New-Age Retro Hippie are dirty. In the old image she "will have a tendency to make her opinions known whenever possible." What about [1]◊ [2]◊ [3] [4]◊?

The image was replaced before the thread was opened twice actually which sounds like edit warring. It looks like when this is over it will need to go to the laconic improvement thread.

I've already fixed the laconic. "Trendy" is not part of the page definition.

The issue here is the image.

I am fine with the current.

I like the Lola Granola image, as long as the 2nd and 3rd panels are removed.

Not keen on Lola Granola,the text is why

When I think of the Granola Girl type I come up with Moonbeam in PCU. Unfortunately the only decent image I can find of her is this one◊.
