I noticed that there wasn't a thread for this show, and since Season 2 premieres tonight (at least for you lucky Americans; we Canadians get it on Thursday), I thought now would be the perfect time to make one.

Anyway, what's the general consensus on the show so far? I actually like it far better than most of Disney's current lineup. Although it certainly has flaws, I like that they generally try to respect the audience's intelligence and avert common stereotypes (Jasmine is the girly girl who's also smart, Garrett is the jock who's obsessed with neatness and rules, etc.). What are your thoughts?

The season premiere was good, but not necessarily as good as other episodes. I do have to say that I felt a lot of sympathy for Garret in the episode and I'm glad Logan wasn't just his friend for the toys.

[up] Just out of curiosity, what's your favorite episode? I haven't seen the S2 premiere yet, but my favorites from S1 are "Lindy Nose Best" and "Bad News".

I like some of the earlier episodes like "Fireman Freddy's Spaghetti Station" and "Dear High School Self". But yeah, those are definitely some great episodes too. Of course, I like anything with Marc Evan Jackson in it.

[up] I liked "Dear High School Self" for the view of Jasmine's legs that it gave us, but I found the plot weaker than (to name another earlier episode) "The New Guy".

Teen perviness aside, what's your least favorite episode? "Twin It to Win It" gets my vote, with "Ball or Nothing" coming very close.

[up]"Snow Problem" was a very forgettable episode. And I actually liked "Dear High School Self" because it had a lot of mystery and suspense, although that other thing is a plus as well.

[up] Garrett had some good lines in "Snow Problem", but I mostly just wanted to yell at Jasmine to shut up about her makeup. On the whole, I guess it's marginally more memorable than "Now Museum, Now You Don't", though.

How would you rank the characters? My provisional ranking (from favorite to least favorite) is Garrett/Jasmine/Lindy/Delia/Logan, but that might change as S2 progresses.

Sorry for the double post, but I finally got to see "Slumber Partay". It wasn't necessarily one of the best episodes, but if the rest of the season is this good, I'll be happy.

The main plot was fun and had some great jokes (it's 11:11!), but its resolution was a bit meh. I slightly preferred Logan & Garrett's plot, even if the bear joke at the end was predictable.

Betty seems pretty unnecessary to me, but we'll see what they do with her later on.

Is it just me, or is the title screen much darker & dimmer this season?

[up]Oh yeah, I forgot about Betty. I think she's going to become a relatively big character considering they made a big deal about introducing her and she's in the commercial for the next episode.

[up]I think it's about one of the main characters, probably Lindy having some sort of new relationship that causes problems. And then Betty was giving her some advice. I forget the exact details.

Possibly, but it seems like the relationship is being used more for drama than for comedy.

[up] Now that's interesting…

On a completely different note, who's your favorite & least favorite character? Garrett is my favorite and Logan my least favorite, but I understand if that's not a popular opinion.

[up]I agree about Logan, but my favorite character would have to be either Lindy or Jasmine. Although I do like how Logan contrasts with the rest of the group, they would be boring if they all had the same personalities.

[up] They're good too. Delia annoyed me for most of Season 1, but they seem to be improving her writing. We'll see.

On the flipside, do you particularly like any of the cast members (not characters, the actual actors)? Piper and Peyton are my favorites, but I'd have to see Austin in a different role before I can make an accurate opinion about him.

Ok, Sunday's episode was probably my favorite so far, if only because it added a little more emotional depth along with all the humor. I thought the Wood Shop Class subplot was okay, the West Side Story plot was a little better, and the First Kiss plot was the best. But the ending was definitely my favorite part of the episode because it has a moral that not a lot of shows have, which is that you don't need someone else to be happy and that you shouldn't see romantic events as awards or achievements to be won, but as things to be happy doing.

On another note, this season is having a trend of making me feel extremely sorry for Garret in the beginning of the episode only to have something good and heartwarming happen to him in the end that makes me really happy. I'm really looking to his development, as well as Delia's, because she was really interesting in this episode as someone other than "the quirky one".

[up] While it certainly wasn't a bad episode, am I the only one who thought Jasmine was a bit of an unreasonable bitch towards Lindy? It was the same way in "Dear High School Self".

Also, Betty needs to go. Now.

[up]I thought Logan was more unreasonable considering the bad grade was his fault in the first place. Also, Jasmine was the first person to stand up for Lindy in the end so...

I hope they do develop Betty more. Her past has a lot of potential.

[up] That's true, but I guess the difference is that Logan is expected to act unreasonably, whereas Jasmine is levelheaded more than half of the time.

The writers have expressed interest in developing the characters, so I feel that Betty could be taken in a good direction.

Also, would you agree with this assessment of "Dear High School Self" that I wrote here?

In "Dear High School Self", Lindy discovers a letter that she wrote in third grade, wishing that she had better friends (based on a single incident where her friends were somewhat mean to her). She then tries to hide the letter from her friends, but when they eventually find out, they get mad at her and leave without letting her explain. She even has to apologize to them for writing the letter. Her friends are overreacting to something that she wrote years ago and being gigantic assholes about the whole situation, but Lindy is the one who has to apologize to these dicks? What kind of message does that send?

[up]To be fair, they only got mad because they didn't understand why she would write something like that. Lindy only explained when she apologized and then everyone was fine with it. I know I would feel pretty angry if one of my friends wanted to tell their future self that I was a terrible friend.

[up] That's true, but Garrett said that because she wrote it a long time ago, she might not believe it today… which was immediately followed by Jasmine jumping to conclusions.

[up]I mainly took that as Jasmine being more offended because she was closer to Jasmine. Garret has usually been closer to Logan.
