Nintendo is the publisher. Game Freak may make the content, but Nintendo decides whether or not you're paying for it.
Nintendo doesn't even have full control of Pokemon, the Pokemon Company International does. There's a reason why Yoshi's Woolly World isn't compatible with the Pokemon amiibo.
Your example doesn't really count because a) they didn't have a say in the matter and b) those Pokemon are Secret Characters that are present in the data from day one.

If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with? They don't have full control of the Pokemon license. They absolutely have control over the release of the games themselves. Because as publisher that's what they actually contribute to the franchise.

That still means nothing concerning their relation to the "free update" model. They don't control when those new Pokemon get officially released.
If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with? Also why Super Mario Maker's pokémon costumes don't have custom sounds.
The Pokémon Company owned jointly by three companies: Nintendo, Creatures Inc, and Game-Freak; each company owns one-third of the Pokémon Company.

Batman Ninja more like Batman's Bizarre AdventureYes. I know.
I still don't get why Nintendo doesn't do the whole "every region has the same release day" thing that Pokemon Gen VI did. Could've prevented the ESRB leak that way for Smash.
You know, I have to wonder why Pit is obsessed with this site. It’s gonna ruin his life!Probably has to do with some of their localization procedures.
Also, the Smash 4 leak wasn't related to Japan getting it first, it was leaked before it came out there.
Because timing those things is really hard. You need enough supply to cover all regions day 1, whereas staggered releases can get their first week sales in turn.
Pokemon is basically the special case in gaming.
Back on Splatoon, I'd say it and other shooters are Not So Different. Both of them are a matter of survival of the fittest, and it takes a lot of effort to coordinate (or survive to) a victory. While the aesthetics are completely different, I feel like the experience is not.
The Game Awards is live. If I recall, they'll have a tribute to Iwata and a more stuff from Nintendo again.
Let the joy of love give you an answer! Check out my book!My bets are on the Smash thing.
"We're all paper, we're all scissors, we're all fightin' with our mirrors, scared we'll never find somebody to love."When on Monday?
WHEN ON MONDAY?!
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!Minecraft.
Your preferences are not everyone else's preferences. That is my guess because Damon Baker is the person at Nintendo that gets in contact with "Nindie" developers.
Batman Ninja more like Batman's Bizarre AdventureFinal Smash Direct on December 15th at 2pm PST/10pm GMT or December 16th at 7am JT.
"We're all paper, we're all scissors, we're all fightin' with our mirrors, scared we'll never find somebody to love."(Yeah, yeah, I know. Different game. My point still stands!)
Is yours???
