General Nintendo thread

Honestly, I was mostly happy with that Direct. At first I was kinda weirded out that Luigi's Mansion was being ported to the 3DS, but considering how Dark Moon was on 3DS and did well it kinda makes sense haha. Plus, a Warioware collection is pretty solid. ^_^

As to the Switch stuff, hoo boy... I'm not a huge sports games fan so I wasn't wild about how much time was devoted to Mario Tennis, but for the most part I was pretty happy with what I saw. Star Allies is looking great and I'm glad to see that the extra characters will be put in free updates and not DLC, its cool to finally have a release date on Octopath Traveller, and I am definitely eyeing the ports of Dark Souls, Captain Toad, and N. Sane Trilogy.

Then there's the Smash reveal at the end, which was definitely cool, but I'm kinda surprised at that 2018 label on it. It kinda makes sense since its been four years and people seemed mostly happy with 4's engine so there's not much refurbishment to be done (at least compared to the jump from Brawl to 4), but I was still expecting a 2019 release at the earliest. Guess I'll kinda be waiting on the fence until more information is revealed. x3

I love my Wii U too much just to sell it.

No joke, there's still a bunch of games I need to play for it that haven't been ported, plus VC and I need to use it as a makeshift Wii too.

Never tocuhed Luigi's Mansion, but now you can have both on the 3DS. Interesting.

And Bowser's Vore Story is a thing now too.

My Wii U isn't going anywhere... until they port Pikmin 3 and maybe 3D World. Then I can bail with no regrets. Don't think I'll have any luck with the former though, since it was actually one of the games that made really good use of the gamepad and you can't easily replicate that on Switch x3

Either way, it's weird and kinda disappointing that they're apparently skipping over Partners in Time as far as remakes go.

That's what I said. That game is in serious need of retcon polish.

They felt it was safer with a BIS remake instead.

Honestly, outside of the lack of Dragon Ball Fighter Z, all of my third party wishlist came true. I'm hoping Stick of Truth also gets a port to the Switch.

Excited that fucking Undertale got a port announcement. This means that Game Maker's Studio finally has Switch support.

I thought Smash was just wishful thinking, which was why it's presence was such a pleasant surprise. With Link looking like his Breath of the Wild incarnation, I'm hoping this means Sakurai and the dev team will be more willing to make the characters and their movesets closer to their contemporary incarnations (Mario w/Cappy, Luigi more like his Luigi's Mansion Self, finally making Ganon more like himself.)

I'm loving the sound of that expansion pack for Splatoon.

I like that the 3DS version of life Support seems to be ports & remakes of previous games. Would Like a Super Mario 64 3D if that's the case.

I'm confused as to why they're porting Sushi Striker to Switch, but not Luigi's Mansion. The latter would generate so much more hype.

Maybe they really wanted a map on a second screen?

If I had to spitball, probably a downgrade in graphics to less effort than an upgraded HD remaster.

@ Selling my Wii U

I'm definitely not selling mine. I'd love to see ports of the games, but I like mine for at least the Wii and Wii U VC stuff.

Another reason I'm not selling it is because right now, it's my only reliable source for Netflix.

Impressions on Nintendo direct:

• Warioware Gold: Nice! Good to see Warioware getting some love. It's likely I'll pick this one up. Warioware's a fun series.
• Dillon's Dead-Heat Breakers: Eh. Not interested in this one personally. It also looks pretty ugly.
• Mario and Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Junior's Journey: Inside Story is a good game, but isn't this kind of unnecessary? The original still looks and plays well, and can be played on the 3DS anyway.
• Detective Pikachu: I'm not sure if I find this funny or unsettling. Maybe a bit of both. Probably both.
• Luigi's Mansion: Never played the Gamecube one, heard it was good, though. Not much to say about the remake.
• Kirby Star Allies: Looks fun, though I probably won't be getting it unless it gets RAVE reviews.
• Okami HD: YES! So nice to see Okami get a release. I have the original, so I probably won't be getting it, but I'm happy to see it come to Switch.
• Sushi Striker: The Way of Sushido: SUSHI IS SERIOUS BUSINESS. Looks like a Puyo Puyo kind of thing, which I'm not into, myself.
• Octopath Traveler: I love the look of this game, but I almost always dislike JRPGs, so I'll give this one a pass.
• Travis Strikes Again: No More Heroes: Despite its silly premise, this actually looks pretty fun. I'll keep my eye on it.
• Dark Souls Remastered: Dark Souls is the "Dark Souls" of Dark Souls games. Also, that Amiibo is hilarious, I love it.
• Mario Tennis Aces: Boy, they sure showcased this one a lot, didn't they? It's looks fine, but there's only so much you can do with tennis.
• Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker: Never picked it up on Wii U, but it actually looks pretty fun. I do like logic puzzles.
• Undertale: I can't remember if this was revealed previously or not, but I love the way they announced it here. I have it on PC already, though.
• Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy: Never played the originals, but it looks alright.
• Little Nightmares: Reminds me of LIMBO. Not interested in this game, personally.
• South Park: The Fractured But Whole: Hehehehe, Nintendo said butthole. It's kind of surreal seeing South Park on a Nintendo system.
• Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition: Another I never got on Wii U, and another one that looks pretty cool. I might pick this one up.
• ARMS: Since I don't have arms, the tournament doesn't excite me. Er, I mean "since I don't have ARMS".
• Splatoon 2: I might pick it up, but even with updates, I'm worried about its shelf life. The thing with online multiplayer games is that they inevitably die off. As for Octo Expansion, it's Shadow the Hedgehog. No, really. Guns. Edginess. Grinding. Amnesia. "Kids" game. Shadow the Hedgehog.
• Super Smash Bros.: As I was watching the opening, I was thinking to myself "Watch this be the Inkling's introduction to Smash Bros." HOLY SHIT. IT ACTUALLY WAS. 100% picking it up.

This was my first time watching a Direct on the day it came out, and I'm pretty excited!

Splatoon 1 multiplayer is very much alive to this day, by the way.

That last part, I thought it was a Splatoon 1 port, actually.

That was a damn good direct. Lots of neat ports, Splatoon 2 dlc looks great, 3DS is turning into a nice little remake machine, Mario Tennis looks good even though I'm not that interested, more Kirby news is always a nice bonus, and HOLY SHIT SMASH ON SWITCH WITH INKLINGS AND BOTW LINK!

Wish we were getting a new Wario Land game instead of a new Warioware especially since it's coming on ten years since Wario Land Shake It.

I'm surprised at how much stock is being put behind Mario Tennis Aces, considering the non-Kart sports games are usually treated as afterthoughts by Nintendo.

But that isn't a bad thing, the game looks really meaty and it seems to be taking a lot of cues from the stuff Mario Golf: World Tour did with its own online features. I'm definitely considering getting it more than I had initially thought I would.

I really hope Link's moveset gets changed to something more in line with Bot W. Toon Link can keep the classic moveset. I hope Mario's moveset stays the same, but if any move has to go, I'd swap out FLUDD for Cappy. The fireball, jump punch, and cape have to stay. I mean, the cape in Super Mario World is one of the best powerups in any game, they can't take that out.
