Tropers - The first of many exciting updates to TV Tropes is upon us! In this update, we focused primarily on making the header and side navigation bars consistent throughout the site. We also reworked a ton of the backend code to allow for easier and more rapid development as we move forward.
Some of you may love the new design, others may hate it. Either way, we would love to hear from you below. We are listening, I promise.
If you have a bug to report, please use the designated thread on the Tech Wishlist and Bug Report to let us know about it.
Now get back to Troping!

The extra scrollbar is caused by the .search-results{ overflow:auto; } rule.
Liked the new layout until I tried a YMMV page. Can't do with it being the same white as the main page. I insist it much have a shade darker color scheme.
OPEN THE DOOR, GET ON THE FLOOR, ERRYBODY WALK THE DINOSAURYou know, the thread titles could use some work. They should probably be centered again, and the style should be different.
So, the search bar near random button messes with my ability to use TV Tropes on a tablet.
Multiple times instead of searching I pressed random.
Is it possible to make search button an actual button, instead of dinky little icon of magnifying glass?
You do know that you should be able to just hit the enter key, right? There could also be a "go" key or something.
Let the joy of love give you an answer! Check out my book!I'd really like to see a complete overhaul of the button graphics...I loved the icon for the old dropdown list where editing, history, etc. could be done and I think all the buttons for those functions need to go to something like that to make them stand out more. Right now the entire UI reminds me of Skype and that doesn't please me one bit.
Is the sidebar overhaul proposal discussed on the beta site still under consideration?
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanIt sure is. We will probably start on that next week or the week after.
I'm going to chime in once again to reinforce my previous posts.
Generally, I'm not a "participant" in TV Tropes - I'm a "consumer." I come to read the articles, spend some time, and learn. For those who use the pages this way, most of the enhancements are worthless, even distracting. I have no need for the sidebar or navigation bars; I really only need the search field and the Random button. The page has taken the very popular route of less content, more structure. I can live with most of it, though I'll admit my visits have dropped by perhaps 2/3. It's just harder on the eyes with the clutter. So, a simple request to turn off, at very least, the sidebar.
Of course, if 'tropes is no longer intended for people like myself, well, that's a choice I'll just have to live with.
Thanks for bringing back the darker color scheme for YMMV pages. Can I also request putting the same color scheme back onto Tear Jerker pages?
So, I just clicked on a YMMV page and OH MY.
Please tell me "it's just how the top-left TV Tropes logo is coded" is the reason why the text in the logo is not readable at all. I mean, you changed it for On The Tropes, after all.
No, it's different for Nightmare Fuel sub-pages. You guys still have the image for the logo before the change to a lighter main scheme, right?

I love that I don't have to zoom in loads to mobile browse or log in to show spoilers.
I like being able to click on spoilers to toggle them on and off, somehow it's just less time-consuming than highlighting the whole text.
Although I think the Tear Jerker pages should go back to being a darker shade of blue.
My favorite thing about the new spoiler functionality is that I can't accidentally click on a spoilered link anymore. I hated that. So much.
I personally think that we should have the option to choose which design we use. (dropdown on profile with options for new design, the darker new design that was used for a while and the classic design)
While different colours and similar features are in the works, allowing the old design probably is not feasible. Creating alternative designs and operating them concurrently is not a simple thing, nor is the maintenance.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanI love the new design. Some things I liked more before - like the funny/awesome/heartwarming/tearjerker/nightmare icons together and unlabelled - but overall it's pretty amazing, and navigation is much easier.
Have the quotes pages been reset to the old version? I quite liked the new alternating blue/white style.
@AHI Wow, I didn't even know you could do that.

For some reason, everything drops to the bottom of the page whenever I go onto this site. What's going on?
Just came here to say that the mobile version is a blessing. The spoiler thing was awful, reading trope pages and navigating in general was a pain, and I accidentally clicked "Mark all as read" too many times (still possible but less likely now). This was long overdue.
Everything else, is, y'know, an update and a fresh look, I guess. But we really needed that mobile site.
And if I claim to be a wise man, well, it surely means that I don't know.I love this new design!
"His logic will destroy all mankind.....Behold....MONOKUMA!!!!!!!!!!!!"The only complaint I have is the white background, the forums used to be grey. If the backgound colors could be changed that would be nice.
The mobile versions is awesome! The site just looks neater and crisper.
All night at the computer, cuz people ain't that great. I keep to myself so I won't be on The First 48What? No, the fora were always white. At least, they have been as long as I've been going here.
Let the joy of love give you an answer! Check out my book! They were "grey" and easier to read, but now they are the blinding white like the regular pages. At least YMMV and Darth Wiki are nice eye friendly colors...

Can we either fix the google search to display the results in the main page, or do without it? The results pop up in a separate window/frame and its really clunky with the normal scrollbar next to it...
