The replacement isn't any better than the original, but I'm at a loss as to what would be a good pic in any circumstance...I was hoping there'd be a direct link to something in the webcomic examples but no such luck.
The old one looks more generic old timey. The one from the movie look more specifically like him.
Neither of them looks like he's out to get the main character.
Both images are JAFAAC. I vote to pull.
Rhymes with "Protracted."

Becky: Who are you? The Mysterious Stranger: An angel. Huck: What's your name? The Mysterious Stranger: Satan.Good example, bad image. You cant actually see him in there.
Agreed. What we'd be looking for is a shot where the camera is focused on the actual Inspector Javert, not his target.
We need something like This◊ but not a cosplay of a character.
I cant actually find a good image aside from that cosplay though.

I can see him just fine. There are only two people.
Becky: Who are you? The Mysterious Stranger: An angel. Huck: What's your name? The Mysterious Stranger: Satan. It's hard to find a good picture of Valjean and Javert from the movie, but there are some good pictures from theatre productions, such as this one◊.
Alternatively we could go the silly route and use this◊ .

"I like girls, but now, it's about justice."I don't see anything in that first one that says inspector, the uniform looks more like a soldier.
Anyway I don't really like using 'trope namers' as images as well because then the page becomes less about the trope and more about the namer. It's bad enough the huge quote and and entire paragraph is dedicated to it as well.

I'm with Troacctid. Neither image demonstrates the trope well, and the image should be pulled.
Having trouble finding anything to illustrate the Stern Chase elements or the arresting a goodguy bit but how a bout Zenigata here? He is pretty eager to use those cuffs.
[1]◊
I remember seeing that image somewhere else already. Not impressed by any image so far.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanThis is not a trope that is easy to illustrate in a single image. I'm open to suggestions, but perhaps it'd be better off without one.

"I like girls, but now, it's about justice."Inspector Zenigata is a different trope IIRC.
Rhymes with "Protracted."Maybe this one◊ , pointing his stick accusingly at Valjean?
It is a hard trope to illustrate though...

That could work.
That really doesn't look the trope, even if you see the 'cop' in it.
That, coupled with an actual quote from the novel or musical about him pursuing him might work pending a better suggestion.
^ Agreed. If we can find a caption, it might work, but it doesn't illustrate the trope well on its own.
How about Whacky Pancake's first image with a caption? Like "Do not forget my name" or "Valjean, at last We see each-other plain"
Do what the clock does, keep going.Clock is set.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanGoing to vote imageless, none of these work to get the point of the trope itself across just the name with the exception of 8 but that one is a cosplay.
What about these two panels from Tintin? The dialogue reveals the Thomson and Thompson are law officers, and their expression makes it clear they're not particularly sympathetic. (That will change in later Tintin books, but in this book the play the Javert role.) It's not completely clear Tintin is innocent here, but his surprised reaction kinda implies he is.

The original image was an illustration of the original Inspector Javert from Les Misérables the book, but Marki Poli changed it to Javert in Les Misérables (2012), and they did so without starting an Image Pickin' discussion. They also changed the caption from "Monsieur l'Inspecteur" to "MRW I'm locked in by criminal scum". They also linked the picture (not the caption, just to be clear) to Memetic Mutation.
For reference, the original picture is on top, and the new one is on bottom.
EDIT: After I posted this, someone removed the caption, and changed the pothole to Les Misérables (2012).
