[up]But we're supposed to feel sorry for this character. The writer... failed, to say the least.

I'm still wondering how that main character of that not popular manga is adored so much in spite of being the same.

Best Chemistry Award: Andou and Tomoyo from Inou Battle Wa Nichijoukei No Naka De. This is supposed to be a harem anime but compared how great those two work together the other girls just kinda don't matter.

Prettiest sceneries:Atelier Escha & Logy ~Tasogare no Sora no Renkinjutsushi~ End of the world was never this pretty before.

Show identity crisis award:' Sora No Method really doesn't know what it wants to be about. Cute show about friendship? A character drama? A supernatural show? Nobody knows, least of all the writers.

It's worse than Nobunaga The Fool on having no clue on what it's trying to be?

Nobunaga The Fool plot changed direction with every episode but at least it knew what kind of story it wants to tell if not how it's supposed to go. Sora No Method really isn't sure what's it's about.

I actually liked Shione (a.k.a. "Headphones Girl"). Didn't get the impression we were supposed to feel sorry for her, though, as most of her suffering was clearly self-inflicted. And I didn't.

And I'm of the opinion that Nobunaga the Fool switched direction far more.

Also, the chemistry between Tomoyo and Andou was mostly just them sharing an interest, along with Andou's good chemistry with most people he interacted with. And the former is surprisingly rare in anime.

Sorry to change topic, but somebody mentioned No Game No Life. Was it really that bad?

A lot of people mentioned No Game No Life.

I'll tell you that it has no intention whatsoever of trying to be not offensive.

[up] Oh, I know. But whenever something Crosses the Line Twice, for some people it's ten times as offensive as it would be from crossing the line once, because it's treating something that needs to be taken seriously like a harmless silly fantasy. That's kinda how it is for me.

Without getting too ranty, it feels like a "rational fanfic" crossed with Mahouka-style self-centered arrogance. My two least favorite things in fiction. (Seemingly also sexism?) The fact that it's supposed to be a joke only makes it worse, mainly because it feels less satire and more "lol isn't this hilarious, bro?! And the protagonists are Smartâ„¢ so you must be Smartâ„¢ for watching it!" (As you can see, I can barely restrain my irritation.)

People defend their freedom to fantasize over being bound, cut up, and raped by foreign invaders, and consider themselves to be of full integrity regardless, even being of higher moral standing than others for being tolerant. I don't really see how anything media presents us will be worth noting based on how audacious it tries to be.

Anyway I just watched 13 episodes of D-Frag with a friend, giving me some other rewards to mention:

  • Best Little Sister Award(blood):Kazama Noe. Note that when I say "best" what I really mean is "she wouldn't make me want to mangle her every day at any moment." In other words, the most tolerable.
  • Best "Little Sister" Award(role):Also from D Frag is Mizukami Sakura, who I would actually enjoy being around. Although it kind of weirds me out how they're supposed to be in a "game creation club" (not that they actually DO this that often) when they probably have enough fun playing like kids outside with mundane things like dirt, bags, and water.

Oh, and might as well mention

  • Most Realistic Parent Award:Yuuki Kyouko, from Sword Art Online. Pretty much every time she shows up I just want to scream "ASIAN PARENTS!" The mom of the orange haired girl in Non Non Biyori wins the 2013 award for this.

No Game No Life isn't that audacious, and doesn't contain much of anything that needs to be taken seriously. Not nearly as much as, say, Kill la Kill, or even Nobunaga the Fool or Saikin Imouto no Yousu ga Chotto Okashiinda ga.

It's not the objectionable content you're thinking of.

It treats intelligence and/or skill as something that makes you superior, and a valid justification for being an arrogant twit. (As a "joke," but only in a "friendly joshing" sort of way.) This is bad because a disturbingly large number of people in the anime/gaming community are very predisposed to thinking that way, and they really don't need extra encouragement. (And I can't pin it all on No Game No Life, stuff like it is all over the place. Life imitates art imitates life.) Also links into some larger issues of believing that "objective" rational thought that can identify flaws even in yourself means that you have transcended the ability to be wrong and become the living embodiment of The Singularity. Sort of a new-wave social darwinism kind of deal, perhaps.

Not that most people would agree this is a problem, of course. But I've spent my whole life around one-track brainiacs and don't have much patience with them anymore. See original post where I specifically declared this to be my Berserk Button.

Got to add another one I hadn't added even though I should've done that before. In my defence, I was a little back-logged on the series.

Best Couple: Demikas and his wife of Log Horizon. Okay, they have very little screentime, but we have here a (previously) dog-kicking villain who with his awesome wife manages to show off a cute and loving relationship. That's pure win in my book.

Most Relatable Situation/Character goes to Space Brothers for me. I spent much of 2014 on a difficult and mentally taxing job search, so the NEEMO arc of the show really resonated with me. Mutta's brief period of doubting his worth and wondering what the point of him being there training was when there were others who seemed so much more talented and qualified than he was really stuck with me because I was feeling the exact same way during that period.

I haven't seen that much anime this year and you guys mentioned most of the ones I want to give already so if it's okay I just want to give two awards to one series: Longest curbstomp pummel without pause and Most obsessively accurate overall adaptation of a manga: both goes to Jojo's Bizarre Adventure Stardust Crusaders adaptation. While there is another beatdown later, that's even longer, Jotaro "vs." Steely Dan takes the former award for 25 uninterrupted seconds of pure "ORAORAORA" - Punching.

As for the other award while the videogame was even more obsessively accurate, the anime got everything down. The sound effects, the music, the poses and so on and so on. All fits perfectly with the tone, is perfectly adapted without any misses, has a few extra scenes and overall a good example of how an adaptation should be when it's not doing an entirely new story.
