Time to start getting hyped. And hope you're the patient type because this is coming out in 2016. But still, it's gonna be epic! Focus on little Yugi! Kaiba's in it, unlike last movie! Probably gonna get some awesome new cards! No GX, 5d's, Zexal, or Arc-V characters to be found (so far)! Yes! YESSSSSS!

I'm gonna be honest:

Yu-Gi-Oh! movies are typically disappointing, so I only care about this as far as new cards go.

But the thing you're so happy about, being the lack of any characters from newer Yu-Gi-Oh! series, inherently limits the scope of any potential new Dark Magician support. (Blue-Eyes has more than enough by now, but Synchros don't exist in that part of the Yu-Gi-Oh! continuity, so Kaiba can't use those in the movie.)

So I expect this movie to be largely forgettable past the nostalgia goggles.

[up]Well, there have only been two movies so far (plus the obscure season zero movie), so I don't know how they can "typically" be anything. And I really liked Bonds Beyond Time. Also, love your mindset of "If they don't use Synchros/Xyz/Pendulums, there's no way the new cards can possibly be any good!"

[up]x2

I thought Pyramid of Light was actually pretty good. What about it was disappointing? I was more disappointed with Bonds Beyond Time but that's to be expected since that was rushed while Pyramid of Light...wasn't.

[up]Pyramid of Light's plot was nonsense, whereas Bonds Beyond Time actually came up again in 5d's. Also, the animation in Pyramid of Light wasn't as good. Really, my biggest fault for BBT is that it was too short.

Anyways, I'm hoping this movie will be more character-driven (Given where we left Yugi off at the end of classic Yugioh, there pretty much has to be SOME kind of character focus for him). Also, I'd like to see some ContinuityNods. Maybe Kaiba starting the building blocks of Duel Academy.

The plot of Pyramid of Light was pretty stupid. But I can already tell that there's no point in arguing with you.

What I will agree on here is that Pyramid of Light was significant better as a movie than Bond Beyond Time. Sadly, the quality of this movie will probably be closer to Bonds Beyond Time, given the release dates of the movies in question.

Why the hate for Bonds Beyond Time? It was pretty much what it needed to be for a crossover movie. Villain shows up, time travel, protagonists meet, duel, the end. What did it do wrong, besides being short?

I've got fanfics for Frozen, Spectacular Spider-Man, Crash Bandicoot, and Spyro the Dragon.

Well, for a crossover movie, Yugi and Jaden only got one turn each, and made their contributions to the fight feel extremely tacked on. Also, Jaden's turn was wasted on using Neos, which is clearly terrible.

Po L wasn't really amazing either, but the duel was pretty entertaining, from what I recall. And goddamn, the Virus card Kaiba used in that duel was so hilariously broken.

Bonds Beyond Time was bad because it was rushed. The duel was too short and we didn't get much build up to much of anything. At least Pyramid of Light gave us time to breathe and has duels that weren't unsatisfying in terms of length. Yeah the plot was stupid but the plot of the various anime that make up the franchise tends to be stupid so that's not really a point against it.

Well, fingers crossed this new one will be longer and have time to develop a story and stuff beyond "villain shows up, card games."

[up]I'm sure they will. But if they don't, I'm gonna throw a hissy fit.

That reminds me, my Japanese-speaking brother raised a good point. If this is gonna make Yugi older, will he sound like little Yugi or Atem? In the Japanese version, the only difference in their voice is the level of confidence, so given his character development at the end of the show, we can assume Yugi would speak more confidently. But in the dub, there's a really, really, really obvious difference between Yugi and Atem. Considering GX, we should assume Yugi goes through puberty at some point, but depending on how old he is in this movie, the dub might still give him little Yugi's high-pitched voice, or else little Yugi's gonna sound all deep like Atem. Either way, it's gonna sound a little weird.

[up] Eh, even though he's famous for the Ham and Cheese, Dan Green's a competent voice actor. Depending on how much Yugi's grown since the conclusion of the original series, Dan Green might get away with using a slightly deeper voice, between the Yugi and Atem voices.

I liked Pyramid of Light and I agree with Bonds Beyond Time being a little disappointing beyond tying in to 5D's plot.

I just saw Pyramid of Light for the first time and really enjoyed it. I kinda see it as Yu-Gi-Oh's equivalent to Pokémon Live! in that a lot of it was cheesy, but it had really awesome moments that made the whole thing worth it.

Also, seeing Kaiba in a straight villain role was pretty cool and reminded me of the early manga, especially with how he's so eager to take revenge on Yugi he ends up almost killing him, and gloats while draining his life with every attack.

The Virus Card Kaiba used is...well, it'll never be printed / released.

Too broke, though it could backfire like no tomorrow against Lightsworn and Shaddoll.

I was watching some of the second series anime episodes and realized how a ton of Kaiba's story arcs involve Break the Haughty. As skilled as he is, even in arcs that revolve around him, he never gets to finish the job himself and has to rely on Yugi to save him. In the Legendary heroes arc he got captured by Armed Ninjas, monsters who are even weaker than Kuriboh.
