Forgot about Megamind, never watched Despicable Me. I've actually gotten tired of seeing those yellow things around when I've never cared to see the movie they're from, I keep telling myself to watch it, but it's just not happening.

Despicable Me is okay, not great. It's already got one completely unnecesary sequel; I'm annoyed that they're doing another one about the yellow things too.

Deadpool is a Chaotic Neutral fellow who is just doing what he sees fit. He's usually a good guy by virtue of fighting people worse than him, but he's still quite the asshole.

Jai Courtney talks Suicide Squad and why he joined the cast.

He didn't even read the script he just knew David Ayer was directing it and wanted to be apart of it.

I hadn’t read a script at all when I signed on. We’d met on a couple of occasions and we’d spoken. And, to be honest, when he told me that the role of Captain Boomerang was what he was thinking, I kind of cringed. ‘Cause I wasn’t a comic book kid. I wasn’t familiar with the DC universe and the history of that’. So I knew nothing about it. And I was, like, ‘Oh, god, Captain Boomerang…Really?…I really don’t know how Australians will react to this.’ (laughs)

[up]One thing I hope is since they have Slipknot I want Captain Boomerang to trick Slipknot into going out of range and losing an arm.

In the comics they used to have the explosives on the wrist so Captain Boomerang convinced Slipknot that Waller was bluffing and the explosives didn't actually work so he went out of range of the mission and got his arm blown off. They then had to put the explosives into their necks after that incident.

As I expected, Leto has taken after Ledger with the method then. That's always scary to think about, but admirable. I think the Joker is really one of those characters you can lose yourself in. And I know that Ledger was just a one in a million tragedy and everything, but I still can't help but think the role knocked him off his rocker a bit, and contributed in a tiny way to his death.

It's already got one completely unnecessary sequel

Nothing is unnecessary about a movie that contains this scene.

[up][up]An R rating does seem appropriate given the source material.

It's not like it's the only R-Rated superhero film that year.

Fox released some test footage, which got rave reviews from fans, so they decided to make the movie. It's done filming and will be released in February 2016. Reynolds has been doing a ton of funny publicity for the film on his twitter, etc, for example, this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z5TB0pKLj0Y.

I was thinking that we are in a unique situation where a movie is listing a number of villains and we don't know for sure what side they'll be on. An amusing stinger would be any surviving bad guys on the actual bad guy side being taken to prison and Waller shows up with a Suicide Squad contract.

So I finally saw that clip of Viola Davis talking about Waller on Jimmy Kimmel, and she slips and calls her one of the "main villains" of the movie.

I wonder if that's from a Hero Antagonist point of view (in that, while she's not necessarily a very moral person in general, she's still mainly a villain because the main characters are criminals trying to get out from under her authority), or if they're going to go full on Arrow "horrific supremacy in the name of justice."

It's very easy to write Waller like her Arrow counterpart even if that's not what the character is about. io9 had some thoughts on how Waller could be done justice in the Suicide Squad movie

Waller, fundamentally, sees herself as the one trying to put a buffer between genuine bad guys, self-righteous vigilantes (including Superman) and trying to serve the greater public interest. She isn't so much "End Justify the Means" as she believes if she allows anyone else into her position they would do it with the wrong agenda. The jobs she's assigned to are usually worthy of Mission Impossible-style subtlety instead of any normal political assassination.

Arrow got her character wrong by making her almost exclusively a Back Ops handler with unilateral decision making authority. Here she IS the kind of person who would carpet bomb a city just to stop a big threat.
