Both of them have the little fish-big fish-bigger fish thing going, but neither of them suggest the little fish has summoned the bigger fish.

Not really. Riding it could mean anything. It could be his usual mount, or he could've hijacked it from the bad guys. Its from a video game, so without having played it my first guess would be hijacked.
What we really need is a picture of him summoning it.

I think that the first one is better. As I pointed in the discussion, Godzilla is not just bigger than Kong, but also more Obviously Evil. It helps to give the idea with an image that the "bigger fish" is not exactly a good solution, but a solution that may become a worse problem afterwards. The new image, on the contrary, does not illustrate the trope at all. There is only one big creature, and it does not seem threatening at all. This trope is not "get a gentle giant to help you".
