"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanI suppose it's just possible that whoever named it didn't want to use the word "speech" because the trope is supposed to include normal conversation as well as formal speeches. Nap Inducing Speaking would fulfill that goal without being grammatically incorrect, but it sounds a bit awkward and unnatural.

I think "speech" is fine.
Check out my fanfiction!Leaning towards that direction, too.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanI think "Speech" is fine too.
Merriam-Webster online has a number of definitions of "speech", one of which is the limited one of a public speech ("a usually public discourse"), but also more general ones such as "the communication or expression of thoughts in spoken words".
So it appears that "speech" would be perfectly fine in the trope name, even if it's just about me boring you to sleep in an informal discussion.

I assume this name came about because the creator was concerned that "speech" would be interpreted solely as a specific noun (as in something given by a politician or teacher) and that tropers would exclude people who don't give speeches who are boring.
That seems to be generally agreed on so far as not a problem.
So, how would this relate to The Bore?
Probably Nap-Inducing Speak is a sub-trope of it.
It came up in the YKTTW Crash Rescue thread.
I'll reiterate what I said then, that name is awful.
Found a Youtube Channel with political stances you want to share? Hop on over to this page and add them.^^ They're sibling tropes, not super and sub.
The Bore is a character; Nap Inducing Speech is an action. Not all Bores give NISs; not all [=NIS]'s are given by characters who count as The Bore.
We have that sort of distinction for a number of tropes.

...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.@Leaper: Excellent guessing. From the YKTTW's sponsor:
That sounds like the talking is caused by the sleep, and not the other way around.
Then that's an issue with the current name and all others structured like it.
It's possible to misinterpret speech since the word "speech" has multiple meanings, but I still think it's the best title. All of the proposed alternatives have their own problems.
Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's PlaySleep Inducing Talking seems a bit like a vers short conversation to me.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanWhy not Nap Inducing Talk?
MAX POWER KILL JEEEEEEEEWWWWWDo include the hyphen somewhere. Because TVT doesn't come equipped with special-edition common-sense-to-use-here handbook. For all I know the trope could target the process of inducing a speech by means of a nap, a connection of the two (a character takes a nap and can't help talking much after it)
edit: test: Nap-Inducing Speak, custom wiki-word doesn't work in discussion title or something >_<

Yeah, custom titles don't work in discussion titles, because these have to show the page title, not a customized form thereof.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanFine with me. I was sponsor and I wanted to get the thing out of my list incomplete stuff, and the YKKTW crowd wasn't helping with the name, so I just launched it already. I disagree the name is ambiguous, but I do agree the name sucks.
^Lullaby would not be correct to use in the name. A lullaby is a deliberate attempt to put someone to sleep, which makes it disjoint with this trope. Not to mention that regular lullabies are often oratory.
If you want to get creative with the title like that, I'd suggest Oratory Hypnogenesis, except that name sucks because it mixes Latin and Greek, and because two weeks after you approve a creative name some other assclown with a fourth-grade education complains they don't know what it means and launches another repair shop thingie to rename it again.
There is good news in all of this. Since I didn't "crosswick" any of these (whatever the hell that means) when I launched it, there's no need to keep "Nap Inducing Speak" around as a redirect.
I still like Nap Inducing Speech. Though some other possible arrangements could also work.
- Speech Induced Nap
- Talking Induced Nap
- Talking The Audience To Sleep (in allusion to Talking the Monster to Death, though this may make it sound intentional-only)
- To The Snore (doesn't sound talking related enough)

Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's PlayI quite like Talking The Audience To Sleep. But I also can't see any reason not to keep things simple and just correct "speak" to "speech": Nap Inducing Speech sounds quite OK to me.

The current title makes no sense grammatically, so it is somewhat hard to tell what it is referring to. I think it should be renamed to Nap Inducing Speech. Since it was only launched two months ago and only has a couple wicks, there should be no disruption with renaming it.
