The description needs to be rewritten to make it more generalized, citing the Trek movies as the basis for that line of thinking, and I agree that it should be an Audience Reaction trope. A different title would help, too...maybe Inconsistent Installment Quality or something along those lines.
On the wiki side of things: 32 wicks, but over 1,200 inbounds...it's definitely getting notice, but it still has problems.

I agree that this should be YMMV and the description should be rewritten in the manner suggested.
I would suggest keeping the name because it seems to attract a lot of inbounds.
^^ Inconsistent Installment Quality is REALLY vague. Just about any franchise with more than one installment can be called that. This trope is at least ostensibly about franchises in which there's some sort of pattern to which ones are good and which ones are bad, usually one that seems arbitrary (as opposed to "only the comics written by the original creator of the character are any good," etc.).
The description could definitely be rewritten to be more specific, and this should definitely be an Audience Reaction / YMMV trope.
How's this as a rewrite?
The Trope Codifier is the Star Trek movies, which have had a long-standing reputation of "the even-numbered movies are a lot better than the odd-numbered ones".
The example section can elaborate on the Trek movies.

^ Waaaaay better than what we've got now. I like it.
I approve of the proposed new description.
Yes, the new one is much better! The old description was way too Trek-specific. I think the current name is just fine, and I agree with previous posters that it should be YMMV.

Can we just put the Star Trek example in as a Useful Notes page?
I had a dog-themed avatar before it was cool. Why would we need a Useful Notes page? All the relevant information can quite easily go in an example.
There's no need at all to move the Trek example to a UN page; the page example simply needs to be beefed up a little bit.
Clock is set.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanAnyone else for/against my suggested rewrite of the description?
That description seems fine for me.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanAny additional work needed?
Link to TRS threads in project mode here.Additional work? Yes. The description needs to be actually changed. It's still the old one, all about Star Trek.
...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.Re-clocking. The description was changed; anything else to do?
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanI've arranged the examples by media; there still needs to be some namespacing work done in the examples.
I think it still needs to be moved to YMMV, and probably could use a new title as well.
I agree that this should be a YMMV trope.
YMMV is probably a good idea, yes.
(Annoyed grunt)Extended clock for the YMMV-or-no discussion.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanI'ts definitely an audience reaction - it seems unlikely that the creators actually intend to alternate between good and bad installments - which means it should be YMMV.
There doesn't seem to be any disagreement on the move to YMMV; can someone just change the page type then? Or do we need to hook a crowner?
There is no way this is not YMMV.
I for one completely disagree with the Gundam entry for example and many cases so does Japan but others do not.

This article seems to be about a series that alternates between Growing the Beard and Seasonal Rot in an obvious pattern. While such things are fascinating, they don't seem to be particularly common, and there is plenty of overlap with the two aforementioned tropes. Furthermore, if it is tropeworthy, it should definitely be YMMV, as it's based on Audience Reactions. What should be done?
I like cute things. You gotta deal with it.
