Ummm...I don't like the look of where this thread is going. Maybe we should get back on topic and stop bitching about "Comedy Central's darlings" before the mods lock it. We're here to talk about pilots dammit not Nostalgia Filter.
"Detecting trace amounts of mental activity. Possibly a dead weasel or a cartoon viewer"Maybe we should suspend Darkton or something...
Comedy Network? I thought it was called Comedy Central. Did they change the name?
Yeah... Let's never use IMDB as a source to discuss or declare ANYTHING. EVER.
Peace, everyone - I hope the discussion gets back to track soon enough.
New Web Browser, same old Shokew.Ah, now I understand. Never mind me.
No, thanks for this - even though I wouldn't trust Wikipedia with this shit, this is somewhat enlightening.
New Web Browser, same old Shokew.Anywho, Who believes Forever 12 is going to be greenlit just to compete with Star Vs.?
"We be we baby!"That's the vibe I get from this, unfortunately... As much as I'm really not a huge fan of Star Vs., TBH with you guys, this looks a bit less desirable in my eyes, as I'd probably mostly watch this for the Butt Witch (God, that name is stupid, IMHO.). She makes this all worth picking up to me, TBRH with you.
And let's keep in mind this hasn't even been picked up yet - but this would be a reason to, regardless. Proper competition for the sake of good business opportunity.
New Web Browser, same old Shokew.Oh.
Canada.
What about Canada?
I don't think the villain's name was really Butt Witch. She clearly did not react in a positive manner to being referred as "butt witch", which suggests the protagonist was just insulting her.
And another thing. They probably will greenlight Twelve Forever to compete the Svs FE and because it had the most positive reception of the three pilots.
It's Canada Day tomorrow.

"Detecting trace amounts of mental activity. Possibly a dead weasel or a cartoon viewer"I mean, I don't even know what Comedy Network is. I'm in the USA
Hang on, I think when Darkton says "Comedy Network", he's referring to "Cartoon Network" because of how their shows nowadays are comedies. Even though that's kinda inaccurate since AT, RS and especially SU get really dramatic at times. Especially SU.
Also, I doubt Darkton even knows there's already a "Comedy Network". In Canada.
(However if you already knew all that, then I just became Captain Obvious of the U.S.S. Tell Me Something I Don't Know" and for that, I apologize.)

OOOO Oooooooh. It's a PETTY reason! Got it.
Most of their stuff was comedy back in the day as well.
There hasn't been a single non-comedic Cartoon Cartoon. Samurai Jack, for example, was never officially a Cartoon Cartoon.
The action cartoon fans back then loved to complain about how Toonami was getting the shaft in favor of the "awful" Cartoon Cartoons.
"They say I'm old fashioned, and live in the past, but sometimes I think progress progresses too fast."Darkton's probably just another bitter action-cartoon fan who resents the amount of more comedic shows that air right now.
Honestly, more action-based shows didn't go extinct. Steven Universe is action-y, funny at the same time. Adventure Time and Regular Show, as mentioned before, have their moments.
"Lucian, don’t be afraid, we’ll make it through this."I don't find Steven Universe, nor Adventure Time, to be all that funny, TBH with you guys. However, both are and can be quite action-packed, emotional, and dramatic (and when they need to be, they exceed quite fucking well at it, too, IMHO!). Especially in SU's case - AT can do it well, too, but not always.
Regular Show, however, hits this balance of slice-of-life humor and action-y fare perfectly, IMHO (I just wish they'd stop with the romantic BS, that's all).
What I'm trying to say is - I don't get Darkton's complaints, as much as I agree CN could benefit from more pure action fare, TBH.

New Web Browser, same old Shokew.Holy shiat.
They forgot Thurop also works on Sanjay And Craig.
"We be we baby!"It's a modern Nicktoon, thus making it exempt from any sort of recognition.

When did I say I hated comedy? All the shows I brought up as Cartoon Network's greatest successes are comedies. This was never about comedy. What this is about is bad comedy. Specifically, how bad comedy shows are given high attention and shoved down our throats and anything that's not bad comedy is being thrown on the backburner and left to wither and die. Cartoon Network balanced seriousness with mature comedy (Cow and Chicken notwithstanding) and gave opportunities for both to succeed. With Comedy Network, if you aren't lolisorandom or dudebro you won't succeed.
And for the record, considering I see serious cartoons in the Genre-Killer page, with it being mentioned that Comedy Network destroyed them, I think they're a lot less alive than you think.
And I call the network that's currently airing whose initials are CN Comedy Network instead of Cartoon Network because Comedy Network is not Cartoon Network. Cartoon Network died in 2007-2008-ish and was replaced by CN Real, which was replaced by Comedy Network in 2011. It's just like the difference between The Simpsons and Zombie Simpsons. The two look similar, and bill themselves as the same thing, but they're not the same at all.
Beware of occasional bad attitude. I do Fanfics on deviantART. Witness me make a mockery out of myself there, too.I hesitate to see how Ed Edd N Eddy or The Grim Adventures Of Billy And Mandy were mature.
In fact, most Cartoon Cartoons were pretty immature when you got right down to it. Dexters Lab did an episode culminating in a fart joke. The Powerpuff Girls had an episode about the girls wetting their bed.
You know the reason why all your favorite action cartoons died? They cost too much money and they weren't getting the right viewership. That's it.
All it boils down to is "I'm not Cartoon Network's target audience anymore and I can't cope with that."

"They say I'm old fashioned, and live in the past, but sometimes I think progress progresses too fast."Normally I don't agree with you, but you hit that right on, man.
As much as I love the action cartoons, they really weren't the best idea for something like Cartoon Network. Kids just don't seem to give that much of a shit about those kind of cartoons.
However, where could they go? I mean, now there's netflix and hulu but back then their really isn't a good place for more mature, actiony, dramatic cartoons to go except for maybe adult swim which could still be risky.

You realize that kids generally don't access IMDB? And that those are rated by adults who don't enjoy modern kids' programming? And that most of those shows you mentioned had bad ratings on IMDB when they were new?
And let's be honest - the people at CN who make these shows are not trying to push out garbage. They are trying to make a show people will enjoy, and that they enjoy making. Similarly, it was never Bill and Joe's intention to make crap - a lot of the godawful stuff was pushed on them by the networks.
If it wasn't for Hanna Barbera you wouldn't have Cartoon Network to begin with. And that's a fact.
