Yeah, that seems to be the most obvious solution. Hard to imagine other ways of partially resurrecting someone; despite Kaplan's wording, death tends to be a pretty binary thing.

Man, the power of duo queue. I've been trying to get into Gold for so long, since season 3 all the way from Bronze, and in a quo queue with my girlfriend(Mercy-Zen-D.Va main), I achieved it in mere 3 hours.

Only then I saw that you can drop out of your tier(and this applies to all tiers except Bronze) if you lack the minimum SR within 5 games in a row. Soooo I'll sit on it for like 4 hours this season has left.

Bottom line, want to actually climb? Duo queue with a tank/healer main. It fucking works.

"Hey guys, this is Jeff from the Overwatch team. We know a lot of people love the new Mercy, but we also know a lot of people don't really like the resurrection ability. We've talked long about this, and we're making some changes; Mercy's res will continue to function much the same, but now the people she revives will be soulless husks, abominations that were not meant to be, whose only voice commands are hellish screaming. Occasionally their arms will fall off.

"We're very excited for these changes and to see what the community makes of them."

Before Mercy's recent rework, I was actually toying around with the idea of a Support hero who has a shitty version of Resurrection as an ability that turns downed allies into decaying zombies. They revive with less health than their maximum (maybe 80%), they have slightly lowered defense, and these side effects intensify with each progressive resurrection. They also take much more damage from headshots.

The idea is that this kind of resurrection is only a temporary measure for sustaining pushes and holding positions, and you need to be revived properly at spawnpoint to lose the effects.

And in the lieu of them constantly trying to nerf our healers into the ground actually glitched and broken characters go competently unnoticed. I have played an whole bunch of Doomfist recently and it's really surprising to me that he is still left in the state he is. His abilities have so many glitches its not even funny.

That's not even getting into most of the other defense heroes other than Junkrat being useless most of the time or how they have reworked D.Va so many times at this point it's getting kinda clear they have no clue what they are doing.

You mean aside from the near-constant see-sawing on Soldier's spread and Mccree's damage falloff?

Plenty of DPS characters have gotten inconvenient changes. Support players are not the only ones who have to deal with their characters getting nerfed.

[up]Um, not really? The only DPS-category characters who's gotten nerf since realease that I can remember are Soldier, Genji, Mccree and Doomfist. While Doomfist's hitbox nerf is quite unreasonable and make him nigh-unplayable (not to mention glitchy), Solider, Genji, Mccree and all other DPS are more or less balanced and stay roughly the same. Support and tank characters, however, receive the most nerfs/reworks since release, sometimes drastically changing their playstyle - looking at you, D.Va and Mercy.
To me, Blizzard's balancing has always been... weird. Why change D.Va from a Jack of All Stats into a Glass Cannon? Why not nerf Mercy's ult and instead nerf her regular toolkit? Why give Junkrat two mines and not nerf the damage? At this point, I'm too tired to care.

If you ask me, the problem with Junkrat is that he is completely immune to his own explosives, a trait which no other projectile-firing character has. This makes him even more of a relentless spammer than he is, making the gap between good and bad Junkrat players smaller.

The thing with Junkrat's bombs is that if you re-add its self-damage properties, it would make Junkrat much more susceptible to close range heroes and makes his job of weakening barriers somewhat riskier as well if he's too close. Given his role of making an area hazardous with his "cherry bombs" and traps/mines, it would most probably hurt his viability in that role, especially in maps where there are lots of closed/cramped rooms (King's Row, etc.).

[up][up][up] I mean, they were pretty big changes to those characters and some of them needed another rework before they became viable. Reaper was pretty bad for a while too. And Roadhog is a DPS-heavy tank and he was unviable for awhile after he got his major nerf. And let's not even get started on Defense characters. There actually have been periods where DPS characters have suffered from serious nerfs that reduced their viability.

I'm not sure where does "Reaper was bad" factor into it. Reaper was bad from the start, he was never nerfed. His rework turned him from a somewhat subpar pick into a badass that singlehandedly ended the tank meta.

Reaper is the only DPS I like playing as, and I think he did need the buff, to be honest.

[up] Oh absolutely, but it still took quite a while for that to happen. Just trying to say that Support characters and D. Va aren't the only ones who have gotten the shaft.

Jeff Kaplan talking about different topics concerning OW balance.

Highlights being that they are looking into Mercy, Ana's damage is being buffed to 70 and Hanzo is being looked at.

As someone who likes playing Orisa, they should reduce Scatter damage to 250.

Of course Mercy is a "problem" again. Sigh.

At this point I believe Blizzard offices have a "People are actually picking healers" panic button.

Completely disregard that Ana is getting buffed

I will say that I rolled Mercy on Random Heroes last night and managed to keep my entire team rolling the whole match without really knowing what I was doing.

Like I'm not going to argue that she's a 'no skill' hero, obviously I could have been doing much more with her, but I understand the idea that she's extremely impactful at the moment. Random Heroes isn't great for measuring overall game balance, since it removes the ability to (deliberately) counter, but even so.

Ultimately Healers are both specific and useful enough that they're always going to see play unless they're completely useless, and that is definitely not the place that Mercy is in, or going to. Particularly in a game where the two teams have objectives aside from 'kill until you reach the kill cap', having healers be too strong can seriously affect the overall game balance. People have been complaining about Defense having the advantage since day 1 as it stands.

All of this is to say I definitely don't blame them for wanting to iterate on design and balance to work their way towards something comfortable, and it's obviously not an issue of them hating healers. It's a matter of them recognizing that healers are impactful and useful enough that their balance is affected by, and affects, the balance of everything else in the game.
