~Septimus Heap: No, not yet. I'm not likely to have a hell of a lot of free time until this weekend, possibly the 26th since I have the day off of work, but I will put this project at the top of my list for as soon as I have some time to dedicate to something that will take more than a few minutes.
Worth noting that the message markup requires @/ not Tropers/ to work.

"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanNoted; I'll update Administrivia.Text Formatting Rules to reflect that. Currently it says "You can notify tropers about a forum post they might be interested in by putting ~Tropers/NameOfTheTroper or ~Tropers/{{Handle}} in your forum post."
...Fucking forum markup. You get my meaning though. :p
EDIT: That's... interesting. The source clearly shows that the @ is used, but the page displays "Tropers/". Bug?

Feature: The namespace is Tropers/.
Link to TRS threads in project mode here. What?
The namespace is Tropers, but you can Pot Hole a troper handle by typing either @/ or Tropers/.
There is a forum feature that by adding a tilde (~) to a troper Pot Hole, you can "ping" a troper.
Septimus is saying that that only works when using the @/ markup, not when you actually type out Tropers/.
However, Administrivia.Text Formatting Rules states that the "ping" feature is used by typing ~Tropers/TroperName, so I was going to fix that, but the actual markup uses @/, so I'm not sure why the page displays the full namespace.
Fuck, I hate trying to use comment markup in the forums.
EDIT: There. Mucking about with this post helped me find the problem. If you include the forward slash inside the comment tags, the site filters @/ as Tropers/. So I just shifted the closing brackets to be around the @ by itself, and that worked. Edited the Administrivia page accordingly.
More to the point... Semper Fi.

The @/ form automatically displays as Tropers/.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanHere is the thing... all of those others do have Semper Fidelis as their motto. None of them, however, routinely shorten it to Semper Fi the way the USMC does.
Semper Fidelis : Widely used.
Semper Fi : USMC. That is it.

I should have asked this before, but do we have any strong suggestions for a rename, or should I just make the crowner using all the suggestions that have been posted in the thread thus far plus the current name?
I'll do it in about an hour, when I get home from work. I promise. <_<
Rename it plz.
MAX POWER KILL JEEEEEEEEWWWWWHaving just gone through the thread and counted everyone who expressed a clear definite opinion as to whether or not it should be renamed there is rough parity... As such, the appropriate course of action would be a singleprop Yes/No to rename, not straight to a rename crowner with the existing name added in.
Edit : crowner made and hollered.

Requested crowner attached.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanMy bad. Thank you, Septimus.
6:12 — a 2:1 consensus against a rename.
Link to TRS threads in project mode here.Which is interesting, because thus far most people posting on this thread seemed to agree with a rename (and a suitable anti-rename argument has yet to be provided).

"All you Fascists bound to lose."What exactly constitutes "suitable"? I feel like several good arguments have been made for both sides.
Well, mostly it's that the core argument seems to be that what Semper Fi means is public knowledge, when a significant portion of the people in this thread have stated they have no knowledge of what the name means, which at the very least proves the name isn't as widespreas thought, and the fact the name is vague and tells you nothing about the trope has yet to be refuted.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."It's been refuted by several tropers, myself included.
In any case, the crowner looks more or less definitive, albeit not unanimous. Isn't the point of a crowner to head off aimless back-and-forth I-don't-agree-with-you/I-don't-agree-with-you-either arguments? Does this really need to remain the focus of the thread?
If it is so, then the discussion is finished and we have no further use for this thread we can call the mods to close it.
PS: Hey, first post with the new tvtropes layout! Woooo!
E Dit: Wait, false alarm.

"All you Fascists bound to lose."Someone has switched their vote on the crowner shortly ago, I think.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanActually, I think we did have a consensus on the description before we decided to do a crowner for the name. Now somebody actually needs to do it. And I did kind of say I would do it. So... I guess, yeah, this thread can be closed. Unless we want to use this thread for discussing a proposed actual write-up.
That means I can make a new thread for Ambiguous Name: Semper Fi.
1) it means "Always Faithful" and that kind of trait is called My Master, Right or Wrong here.
2) For its usage in the USMC, Semper Fi is a motto, so it is inappropriate to name it for a trope about portrayal.
MAX POWER KILL JEEEEEEEEWWWWW
Crown Description:
Vote up for yes, down for no.
Wouldn't that count against the name? The fact that it's been used by several other millitary factions? This trope is very specific (I.e a idealized US marine), the fact the name is the motto of a hundred other organizations points in favor of a change, to avoid confusion.
