Something to consider:

With the information I've got so far, it seems like being a Mech jock takes a lot of training and if they fight on foot most of the time, I want to know who in these two militaries came up with that policy because it makes no sense. With all the intensive training that is required to ride a Mech, I doubt it leaves a lot of time for ground combat training and it seems like a waste of resources to have such valuable individuals fighting on the ground where they're just as vulnerable to bullets as anyone else.

Not to let the air out of your balloon but I can't think of a single military anywhere that would allow this kind of thing. In a weird way, though, it kinda fits because history is rife with stories of people being forced to fulfill military roles other than the one they were trained to do, though not to this extent.

Yeah, it kinda doesn't make sense. The closest equivalent we have is pilots, and as far as I'm aware pilots do not fight on foot.

i'm just sad that now everyone is going for a mech pilot... at the time i was thinking of it only taco had signed up as one...

And it's actually not much of a surprise to me.

I mean ZAFT actually had the pilots for the gundams they were jacking infiltrate on foot and were shown to have good experience with out of ms combat

Perhaps the plot conspires to constantly surround dire battles? Or maybe these mech pilots need to be skilled in the same way Jaeger pilots have to be in order to effectively pilot/sync up with their mechs?

I can just see all the pilots arguing with their commanders that every battle is a crucial one because they want to take the Mechs out.

Think titanfall pilot over normal pilot thats what I was doing.

And besides, if X exists, I am pretty sure there is also anti-X weaponry.

Or is there not in this case grim?

I'm thinking of changing mine to just a soldier considering how many pilots there are already. P Lus it'll make finishing off my sheet faster.

I was thinking of making a Noire. But I'm busy just with real life and the roleplays I already do. I don't know if I can squeeze another game in. (:/)

Gonna put what I have here since I have to go for a few hours. If there's anything that's an issue so far, I can change it too...

  • Name: Zia Fahan Zaman

  • Affiliation: Noire

  • Age: 21

  • Gender: Female

  • Role: Solider (Corporal equivalent)

  • Appearance: Zia Fahan Zaman is a slight, flat chested young woman of relatively average height but with a wiry, athletic look and a cautious grace to her step. Her skin is a light coffee-brown hue with angular but fairly attractive features and dark, almost black eyes. Zia keeps her hair cropped very short aside from a fringe swept stylishly to the right of her face and is naturally jet black though she likes to keep a few streaks of it dyed blue. These days she spends much of her time in her infantry uniform but still keeps a necklace full of good luck charms from her parents around her neck in an effort to keep a part of her family close.

Outside of combat and the army Zia tends to go for practical and slightly boyish clothing with comfortable sandals. Her voice is deep but feminine and clear

  • Personality: While Zia is a firm believer in her empire's principals of freedom and is herself a creative thinker she was raised in a rather stringent and superstitious family, at least by Noire standards. Their ways always seemed silly to her and though she values her family the young woman has always been adventurous and pragmatic, if not outright flying in the face of tradition and politeness - they're much the same in her eyes. Nevertheless Zia tries to be friendly in her own droll fashion and argues more with friends than enemies but has a very low tolerance for dishonesty and general bullcrap. Ultimately she doesn't expect to get along with everyone and doesn't care to if they aren't the sort of people she likes.

Zia enjoys the more technical aspects of her current employment both in terms of the technology and combat but has never really made peace with killing other people, only the war to look out for her enlisted siblings and keep the Blanche at bay. She really just wants the fighting to end and to resume her studies in music, which she still has deep passion for and practices when she has the time. When her friends or family are threatened she has a single-minded determination few see and while she doesn't have an issue with orders in general, those she disagrees with are another matter.

  • Skills and Equipment:
    • Melee/Hand-to-hand combat - Zia took to the close quarters side of her military training well, growing up with three brothers giving her more than enough experience in hand-to-hand combat. However, she also gained a liking for using bladed weapons and has become quite skilled with sword or knife.

    • Marksman - Zia is an excellent shot with any firearm she knows how to use and her training has made her well acquainted with most conventional arms.

    • Physical strength/agility - She was no slouch prior to her enlistment but the work involved has further improved her fitness, making her quite strong and fast if not the most graceful woman. Quite a good distance runner too.

    • Musicianship - Zia was studying music before enlisting and already a talented musician able to play many instruments with the best of them - specifically guitar, violin, cello, bass/double bass, accordion and a touch of piano though more experienced with stringed instruments. While the threat of invasion leaves little spare time when she does it is usually spent practicing or writing music. She keeps a few instruments under her bunk at Vinadel (a guitar and violin). Some claim she has a good singing voice but not without bruises being incurred.

    • Light Infantry armor - Standard Noire light armor for their infantry.

    • Plasma Rifle - Standard issue.

    • 'David' - Zia's katana, the majority of it constructed of reinforced titanium and the blade edge being a focused high-energy laser (violet in color). A light (no pun intended) alternative to super-heated blades with greater cutting power but can run out of juice if used on more difficult obstacles too often. When this happens she can still use it as a blunt weapon, however.

  • Bio: Zia Fahan Zaman was the youngest and only girl of 4 children in an old but far from wealthy Noire family. Her parents were big on tradition and often insisted of strange rituals, the sort left over from old religion but kept around more for the sake of it. Maybe as part of this, or because she was their only girl they tried to coddle her - boys were meant to be dirty and wild but she was going to be a polite and proper little lady. Naturally, Zia was quick off the mark to reject this suggested role, constantly chasing after her boisterous brothers and perhaps causing more mischief than even them.

Nevertheless, she didn't want to follow in their footsteps and had her own interests aside from general tomfoolery - Zia loved music and had since her mother sung to her as a child. She decided early that this was her path in life, insisting on learning an instrument and fortunate that the empire was so accommodating to such creative pursuits. She was talented and after a basic education was able to take her studies of music further - enrolling in a respect university. However, the threat of another Blanche invasion was becoming hard to ignore and her brothers signed up for the army as soon they could, her parents even approved.

Continuing to tinker with her instruments and study frivolous cadences, scales, concertos... well, in the face of the empire and, more importantly, her family under threat from their forces she just couldn't ignore it. So Zia enlisted and begun training to join the Noire infantry, taking to the art of combat rather well and making friends with one of her instructors. It turned out he was a bit of a tinkerer when it came to weaponry and, noting that she was fond of bladed weapons, gifted her a laser sword he had constructed - he boasted that it could take down a Goliath with the right strike so Zia decided to call it 'David'. What brief time she has had in combat has seen her advance in rank to Corporal and, while she isn't in the same unit, tries to keep an eye out for her brothers.

The two brothers closest to her age, Sudhir and Bhim, are also stationed at Vinadel and of similar ranking. The eldest, Irshad, is secretly working in the Noire palace as one of Wilhelm's disguised elite guards.

Interested, but what about the conventional forces like tanks, aircraft and warships? Are they going out of style or are still dominant?

Well, tanks are decent enough for combat — at least I hope so, since I'm doing a mechanised infantryman with an Awesome Personnel Carrier-slash-tank prototype as a ride.

My planned character is a tank pilot-turned mech jockey... Except his mech is simply a bigger badder and faster tank since it uses a highly modified and enlarged hovertank chassis as its legs.
