Interesting. As a late-adopter by trade, it's comforting to know that it's not far removed from what I'm used to.
Thanks a bunch.
What if there’s no better word than just not saying anything?Did the anniversary update do anything regarding the substantial (some may say paranoid) increase in surveillance of user activity and other related concerns? Because if it didn't, then I don't see how "it's not that different from Win 7 for the regular user" could be a valid statement.
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.By the way here is how to delete the mobile apps in win 10, it's pretty easy copy and pasting..
Do it after doing the anniversary update as that update installs new versions of them.
Cortana can not be uninstalled, I don't recommend using it to search the net since it uses Bing. I just have it set to hidden.
As long as you don't use bing/cortana to search the net and install your own browser it is fine from my understanding. Bing is the really questionable search engine.
You can still go into settings/privacy and turn off what you wish, all of them are basically what you would see on an iPhone and are based around the mobile apps.

Didn't the anniversary update also cause some systems to freeze (as noted in this article)?
Never heard about it. My update went without a hitch.
Remember, these idiots drive, fuck, and vote. Not always in that order.Well, Windows 10's Anniversary Update is causing a freezing glitch, but here's a temporary fix for the problem.

Interesting. I do have my OS on an SSD, but the apps I use most frequently are on the same drive, with mainly my documents, music, video, and Steam library on a separate one. I haven't noticed any specific freezing issues, so I guess I'm in the clear.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"So is anyone running Windows 10 with another anti-virus that is not Windows Defender?
The big update back in 2018 wiped people's OS (even the on disk restore files).
Anyone running another AV and have windows updated in 2019??
All night at the computer, cuz people ain't that great. I keep to myself so I won't be on The First 48Bitdefender? Not had any files wiped in my case...
Avatar SourceSorry, can't say I have. But since I am in the thread, I do wanna point out that the night light settings seem to be completely borked in the May update. Clicking it on or off won't make it work.
Remember, these idiots drive, fuck, and vote. Not always in that order.$100.00 and a trip to Geek Squad later I got Windows 10 loaded back into my computer.
MicroSoft admits they fucked up.
Micro$oft was trying to get more people to use Windows Defender
All night at the computer, cuz people ain't that great. I keep to myself so I won't be on The First 48Nice conspiracy theory, too bad it's utter bullshit. It's just a result of antivirus software itself being a security and stability nightmare.
From your own link that you confusingly label MS admitting to fucking up:
The compatibility issue arises when antivirus applications make unsupported calls into Windows kernel memory. These calls may cause stop errors (also known as blue screen errors) that make the device unable to boot. To help prevent these stop errors, Microsoft is currently only offering the January and February 2018 Windows security updates to devices that are running antivirus software that is from antivirus software vendors who have confirmed that their antivirus software is compatible by setting a required registry key.
Wait anyone using a non WinDef antivirus had their computers wiped? News to me considering I've always used Avast since the Win 10 update.
"Yup. That tasted purple."Some AV software interacted really badly with last year's spring update because they basically hook into the system like malware themselves.
Edit: oh look we had this discussion a year ago in another thread when the shit was actually happening https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/posts.php?discussion=13389541470A85240100&page=260#comment-6487

It's really not too different from 7 for a regular user since the anniversary update redesigned the old clunky win 10 start menu. It just generally runs better and starts up much much faster
You still want to install a virus scanner, Firefox or chrome, and such.
There is a built in Windows Store though which I have never touched.
