Aight for for a seasonal magical girl idea I got the powers down pat:

  • spring: powers over plants, minor rain powers
  • summer: heat and sand
  • autumn/fall: leaves and wind
  • winter: ice and snow

the solstice magical powers are more support-oriented since her whole gimmick is maxxing out the other girls' powers (as well as being the key in unlocking their solstice modes). Though i'm also looking for thematic offensive powers suitable for such a character.

Equinox, I'm stumped on. So far her purpose is to do the whole power combination thing I guess? but I don't think it feels right. I'm still trying to workshop this as we speak.

What would propably physically happen to a human who runs at a top speed of 480 miles per hour (22 times faster than the fastest human sprinter)?

480mph would make breathing difficult and collisions inevitable. And joints would probably overheat. Just off the top of my head. One also wonders how quick the acceleration to such speeds is.

The story is obviously not super realistic because if it was i wouldn't be giving characters superspeed, but could it be vaguely possible to somehow help the breathing problem with 1940s-style technology? Building some sort of a breathing apparatus?note

Also, what does Doppler Effect do at that speed?

Here is my magic system in my original novel: Fictionverse Project: Original Universe what do you think

Conceptual Power

Concept power is the superpower that all human beings are born with based on the concept of everything either natural, man-made, or supernatural by strength and variety in the use of power. Will depend on the specificity of the meaning of the concept that the concept has a specific meaning, how much will be more diverse in the use of less power and a lot of strength, but if the concept The more diverse meaning, the more it means to use a lot of power and a little strength, and one can have from 1-4 concepts in the rail. and can have duplicates

The types of concept power are as follows.

1. Natural Concept: Concepts that come from nature such as Weather, Lifeform, Element

2. Manmade Concept: Concepts that come from humans such as Technology, Encyclopedia, Weapon

3. Supernatural Concept:Concept that has supernatural origin: Devil, Ghost, Transformation

4. Combo Concept: A concept that has two concepts that are related in one such as Nature-Civilization, Dream-Nightmare, Hope-Despair

5. Absolute Concept: A special type of concept that is at the highest level of all concepts that few people will have, where you become the owner of the concept's domain. It differs from a normal user who is only a resident of the domain.

6. Anti-Concept: A special type of concept that is responsible for opposing all concept powers and few people have it.

Concept powers are OP. Nature powers could control all weather, animals like bugs, or wildlife. Concept over dreams and nightmares could be full-on reality wrapping. Same with Technology, for obvious reason.

My main character's, Ultimate, powers from my web novel is the Spider-Man package. Minus the Danger Precog and Super Agility. With the added bonus of Deadpool-level regeneration. And super immunity. I already used the super immunity for a supervillain plot. And I'm not planning on having Ultimate use his power creatively yet. But his Motherly A.I. helps him by offering him suggestions that he ignores, that what I wanted suggestions for.

I already have some ideas. (using shockwaves to move around in the air, using shockwaves for projectile moves, super spinning to create large tornados.) But maybe you guys could help me.

What can gravity powers be used for, assuming they're not powerful enough to totally break reality?

ECD Since: Nov, 2021

[up]Depends on the scope of the power? The Weirkey Chronicles has a character who has such powers and uses them fairly creatively.

Basic usage might be dropping enemies into the sky, or weighting them down with multiples of gravity. More peaceful uses might be energy generation (if you can reverse gravity, then release it, you've got essentially infinite power generation). More complicated uses might be repelling projectiles, creating black holes, or putting things into orbit.

You can also crush people from the inside by increasing their internal gravity, accelerate or slow down things as much as you want, and bend light, which can allow to create mirages or enhance images (the gravitational lens effect). At higher levels, you can also change the courses of planets and bend space, which can allow to slow down/speed up time and possibly create wormholes.

How does this sound as a superpower for Sei Shonagon? Currently conceptilzaing a story about female writers that are in this ethereal world and each has a special ability that's based on their most well known book (think Bungo Stray Dogs but with an all-female cast).

Here's her ability in question:

The Pillow Book - A mainly passive ability that instantly writes down thoughts and what people said in paper without the need for a writing utensil. The thoughts can come from Sei herself or someone else, meaning she's basically a mind reader. Sei can also control which specific thoughts/dialogue can be written down.

Excuse the sandwich post but this thread hasn't been active in months so um.

So, I came up with a Great Gatsby AU where the Gatsby characters have superpowers.

I need help figuring out Daisy Buchanan's powers. It was originally supposed to be illusion powers but I realize that Tom would pull an Enji Todoroki and marry someone for their powers so their child can have a powerful fusion of their abilities. Tom's ability is that he can turn his body into steel and change the shape of his metalized parts (like he can turn his metal arm into a blade for example), so I'm not sure if he would marry someone with illusion powers. So, what powers should I give to Daisy that would be complimentary to Tom's while still fitting her character?

I need to figure out limitations for a Magical Girl whose main magic is granting wishes.

The limitations I have currently is that she cannot grant her own wishes

[up] Some ideas, even if they're really basic, is that she can't bring people back from the dead and the wishes can't directly harm someone.

[up][up] Perhaps a limitation of "The user can only grant wishes if they themselves know how to grant them first"?

That would limit the usage of the ability to reasonable levels and force the user to train and get more and more clever in order to grant trickier and trickier wishes using methods that does make sense and yet still, can take the reader by pleasant surprise in order on how they managed to grant them.

Or additionally "If the wisher makes a wish that they themselves can achieve by their own power, the wish won't be granted by the user" (aka "No lazy shortcuts in life.")

Some additional suggestions:

Not granting the same wish twice: This can extend to all the wishes she already granted, or be limited to "a user can't make the same wish twice". Also, "same wish" can include the exact wording of the wish (so for example someone who wished for a glass of water can wish for a cup of water) or the general spirit of the wish.

No breaking the laws of physics: For instance, not breaking the conservation of mass or energy, or any rule of physics at all. This can also depend on the wording of the wish: "I wish to fly to the 40th floor" defies the rules of physics and won't be granted, but "I wish for a strong gust of wind to carry me unharmed to the 40th floor" is physically possible (if unlikely).

Have an "equivalent exchange" limitation: That one is not original at all, but can still work effectively to limit the power of the wishes. Wish for a glass of water? A glass of water will disappear from somewhere. Wish to resurrect someone? A random person will die instead. Wish for someone to die? Someone who should have died will miraculously survive. Etc...

Have the wishes operate realistically: sort of a combination between the "laws of physics" and "equivalent exchange" ones, this would force the wishes to be granted in a realistic manner (no matter how the users phrased them). Wish for a glass of pure water? A random stranger will offer you one (instead of it appearing in front of you). Wish for a million dollars? You will win the lottery... or inherit from a beloved parent. A wish that can't be granted in a realistic manner can't be granted at all (alternatively, it could be granted in a literal manner: "I wish to become immortal" would have the user be remembered forever by mankind... or turned into an unbreakable statue).

And/or, additionally, every single wish HAS to end with a "...please?" in order to work at all to begin with.

Since this power does belong to a Magical Girl after all, it just feel fitting for this limitation to apply to it and would keep it from being abused by other people since most people, not knowing this limitation, hardly ever say "please" when demanding for wishes.

So, in the story i'm writing, one of the powers that a person can have is to be "Touched by Victory."

Basically, in exchange for halving the character's lifespan (because Victory is fleeting), it gives them a few very potent abilities:

. They have glowing, luminous red eyes (meaning they see everything in red)

. Inhuman strength (not like, Superman strength. More the sort of enhanced strength that lets you snap a broadsword in half with two fingers.)

. Enhanced speed and reflexes (able to run much faster than a horse at full gallop)

. The ability to see other people's intentions as a sort of ghostly before-image that acts out the person's movements before they do. The more pre-meditated something is, the more clear and ahead of time the before-image is. For example, if you planned to walk home after work, an image of yourself walking home would be visible to someone Touched by Victory all day before you finish work, wheras an instinctual strike in the heat of the moment would appear almost in tandem with the person's actual body movements.

. The Touched's own body automatically moves in the most efficient way possible it can compute based on its surroundings and the situation to ensure that the Touched wins any fight. This can lead to a phenomenon where when two Touched face each other, their bodies become paralyzed because neither can compute a way to win against an opponent with equal abilities to their own. They see every move their opponent is going to do and vice versa. So they often have back up in the form of "Tie-breakers", who are fighters who mainly exist to create enough chaos for one of the Touched to come out on top.

Now, based on the description I've just given, would it be feasibly possible at all for a master swordsman with absolutely no powers to beat one of these people Touched by Victory in a fight? Or have I made the Touched too powerful for this not to seem a little bullshit?

Yes. It is.

A swordsman clad in blue and moving only on instinct alone can easily surpass all of those buffs by not thinking at all and deliver a Single-Stroke Battle with a single slice before the Touched could even react.

The reason for it, being that as far as the Touched can see, the guy is just standing there like some statue and doing nothing.

Since instinct doesn't require conscious thought. It has been honed into the body to the point the mind doesn't bother with using energy on it.

Imagine this: The swordsman take the stance. The Touched immediately goes in to cheat by reading the swordsman's mind.

All they see is a pineapple field.

Que the Touched going ("....Huh?") in their last breath and in the next moment, their head is already hitting the ground while the swordsman stands behind them, sword drawn and having already executed the swing.

The Touched saw nothing due to in that one moment during the slice, all that one saw were pineapples, ready for the harvest. Not seeing reality that was right in front of them. Momentarily stunned.

So in short, a master swordsman without powers could easily one-shot these Touched people like nothing.

Showing that Cheaters Never Prosper when up against the mountain built by hard training, discipline and decades of experience.

The best way to beat a cheater, is by beating them fair and square while they are cheating after all.

In Red Revenge i have two supervillains whose powers i haven't given an origin for.

  • Adele Siemon has telekinesis, capable of both fine manipulation and lifting heavy objects like a tank. I also thought she could pour liquid into a cup without looking.
  • Falk Rot has superspeed, bit not like The Flash. He can only go about 480 mph (22 times faster than the fastest human sprinter). Propably at least some of the Required Secondary Powers too.
The other charaters' powers all come from one Super Serum or one succesful reconstruction of itnote , from being a vampirenote  from being a dhampirnote , from being an aquatic or a human-aquatic hybridnote  from being a robot who isn't harmed by his own pyrokinesis, or from being a sorcerer (none of the herbal/alchemical stuff i've come up with covers telekinesis or superspeed, and magical objects or curses don't exist). The tech is Diesel Punk-y but the powers should be somehow internalized, because otherwise the Allies could just execute them and take their stuff; the idea is that Siemon defects to the Soviet Union after The Lightbearer's death while Rot flees west, and they're both taken and let off the hook for their war crimes because USA and USSR are more concerned with their arms race than anything else (Siemon constantly plays the Austrian victim card, but that isn't enough on its own).

Ideas?

Could the telekinetic one be descended from aliens (or from an almost extinct offshot of humans that branched off some time ago), to explain her peculiar powerset?

The speedster could have gained his powers through mystical means, by performing some old ritual to the god Mercury for instance.

Just some thoughts.

[up]

There are no gods, and aliens propably won't appear. Magic in Red Revenge is herbal/alchemical and just another human invention. Magic objects propably also don't exist.

Another thing i forgot to explain was that Siemon is a Gestapo agent who somehow accidentally acquires her powers. Something goes wrong propably. And Rot was born in Alsace in 1914 and the french kicked his family out when he was 5 (he might actually be the oldest Der Einherjar member, unless i make Siemon older).

A step toward explaining the origin of Siemon's powers is propably coming up with an explanation for how they work. How does she grasp objects without actually touching them?

[up] Maybe she uses air as a medium in order to grasp something and heave it up as if someone would do it if submerged in water?

Like, she moves her hand through the air, the force is transferred through the air, and it affects the object by vacuum-packing itself around it and heaves it around with the full scale of all the air around her as force.

And since air is everywhere, it is easy to use through.

Like... turning it into aerogel?

And for the "how?" then "She got lost in the woods at some point in her life, stumbled upon a sacred meadow with a glowing spring full of water pouring up from the depths of the earth in it, was thirsty, drank as much as she could from it, and moved on without bothering to recalling the path she took to find the meadow, returning it to the depths of mystery where she had found it."

I have an idea for a character with electric powers, the idea is based on chanching his brain chemistry by manipulating the electricity between his neurons, causing things like adrenaline rushes to increase his speed and strength, is that too silly and pseudo-scientific or do you think is ok?
