I think they'll have a roster about 30 mons deep.
People brought up Pikachu in that luchador costume before, but if it was in the game we'd of seen it right off, I'm sure. Machamp's an awfully random choice of an opponent, so I'm not so sure if fan favorite Charizard will make it in either.

One collaboration with Namco wasn't enough, huh Nintendo?
Though even if the idea seems "out there", it still kinda makes sense.
Please help out our The History Of Video Games page.I want at least one legendary in it.
Mew Two or Genesect are, to be honest, the most likely.

For Those who Seek the Thrill of Death: A Dramatic SMT3 Hard PlaythroughI want Bisharp and Gallade in. Especially Bisharp.
Continue the bloodline, Fujimaru!burmy
And then there was silenceThings like this and Hyrule Warriors are a great idea. Hoping Nintendo makes a habit of letting (proven) 3rd-parties handle their characters. These collaborations could make boatloads if done right.
So, roster ideas?
These would be the easiest to implement in a fighting game. Pretty big lists, but I think we can safely cut the unevolved ones to bring it down.

I'm expecting solely Fighting types until proven otherwise due to the nature of this being a fighting game.

Do you think will be only Fighting-type Pokemon, or only mostly Fighting-types?
@Alucard: Are you expecting Nintendo to work with Capcom next?
Please help out our The History Of Video Games page. The latter. I really couldn't see Conkelldur, Medicham, or the Muskedeers making it in, and some kind of legendary (probably Mewtwo) is a given.
I think I'm going to wait to see more of the official roster before speculating, mostly because I want to see if they'll add in non-Fighting Type Pokemon as well as generally humanoid-looking Pokemon.
That said, I expect the final SNK Boss to be Mega Mewtwo X.

Oh right. He can be part fighting now, can't he?
.... They thought this out way in advance....
Well Mewtwo would sort of count as a Fighting-type due to Mega Mewtwo X. Same with Lopunny.
I can kind of see Heracross and Medicham having a higher chance of getting in due to having Mega Evolutions.
Infernape and Emboar probably will be in because starter Pokemon.
Hm. With the people behind the game asking fans to tweet them what Pokemon they want to see in the game I guess it is possible they'd include some non Fighting type Pokemon. I still expect them to use mostly Fighting types though.
Where are you guys seeing that?
Looks pretty cool.
I still wanted that Colosseum type game, but we all knew this one was coming.
One Strip! One Strip! So will Ditto be in as the Ditto Fighter?
That opportunity is too perfect to pass up.
@Waxing Name: Personally, no. But, if the concept is good, then let them.
Were you imagining Monster Hunter meets Pokemon?

The part about tweeting what Pokemon people want to see in the game? Bulbapedia.

Hawlucha and Pangoro are pretty likely yeah?
Now's it's Shulk Time!Really, as long as it's relatively well-known and doesn't have a body shape that completely doesn't work (sorry, Diglett), I think that just about anything can get in. It probably won't be even 50% Fighting types, because that'd just be kind of dull. I'm also going to guess that each generation will be weighted about the same, though probably slightly heavier for Gens I, III, and VI.
As for roster guesses: Pikachu for sure, and the odds are good for Mewtwo, Charizard, and Greninja. Slightly less likely (but I'd like to see) are Blaziken, Blastoise, Alakazam, Garchomp, Hawlucha, and Zoroark. I'd also like to see Trevanant, Abomasnow, Toxicroak, and Breloom, but that's me being wishful. I'm also guessing we'll get a fossil representative or two - probably Tyrantrum, Rampardos, or Kabutops.
Anyone who assigns themselves loads of character tropes is someone to be worried about.
Hinted at a few months ago with a few trademark shenanigans, Pokken Tournament is an arcade-style Fighting Game developed by Bandai Namco. In short, Pokemon meets Tekken. The game will be released in arcades in 2015 and will almost certainly be released on the Wii U a few months after.
