I plan on seeing it this Thursday in Seattle. Has anyone had the chance to see it yet?

I'm curious, how man F bombs does James Rolfe/The Nerd drop in the film?

The film is HILARIOUS. I was actually somewhat dubious, but this is a pretty entertaining film from start to finish. A few bumps here and there, but otherwise, I had a good time. A few comments:

  • Odd to me, the AVGN theme never appears at all in the film (unless I missed it). Granted, there really isn't any spot for it to be used, and I don't think it was even used as incidental music.

  • Special effects are mostly good the first half of the movie, but the 2nd half.... LOTS AND LOTS of models and toys. I don't know if that was done intentionally for additional laughs, or if it had more to do with James running out of money towards the end of production.

  • For some reason it bugged me that Kyle Justin and Mike Matei only have, literally a seconds-only cameo. While I know Mike was heavily involved behind the scenes, and Kyle contributed a song for the film, but.... it was still odd that they were given merely a cameo despite their supporting screentime in the actual AVGN videos. To me it's like if they made a feature length Friends movie, and Gunther and Janice only had a brief cameo in the middle of the film, with only 1 line each, and nothing else.

  • Doug Walker's cameo got a HUGE reaction from the audience, while Lloyd Kaufman's cameo (which comes immediately afterward) got at most a "Hey, it's Lloyd Kaufman" from a few people. Which was interesting to me because Doug doesn't really do anything during his cameo. It really just consists of him fleeing and screaming, while Kaufman actually tries to do something funny (either scripted or improvised, it was hard to tell), and gets no reaction. It's a neat example how sometimes you don't really need to try hard to get a response to the audience.

  • Sarah Glendening is hot. I'll just say that right now. With or without glasses. The interesting thing is, a look through her IMDB profile shows she's mostly done soap operas and crime dramas previously. Leslie Nielsen Syndrome perhaps?

  • I think the "Chick Magnet" joke was the joke that got the biggest laugh and applause the entire film.

  • Minor complaint. While, I think the film is very entertaining, and a laugh riot, I would still argue that the film is a little *too* long. I don't know, it may be because the film started late, my friend was getting tired, and I knew i had to get up early, but a little bit of Ending Fatigue started setting in. Personally, I think the whole thing with the giant robot monster could have been stripped from the story, and not missed. But, then again, we wouldn't have gotten the "chick magnet" joke.

Overall. Very good film, and if it's playing near you, I suggest seeing it with an audience, before it makes its way to DVD or blu ray.

So, I haven't exactly followed the AVGN in a while but the movie's basically the finale right?

Honestly, it's been a good run, but I'm pretty sure James himself said he kinda planned on ending it with the movie so he could move on to other stuff.

James may have intended the film to be the finale at one point, but I think that changed when him and his wife had a kid. He said in one of his movie update videos that he will likely do some more AVGN episodes, and stick to that for awhile since that won't require him to leave home.
