Okay, this is my idea for an RP inspired by Civilization as well as the games Empire Earth and Age Of Empires, but I may need some help in working out a good system, most likely blending role-playing with turn-based mechanics.

I've only come up with the idea earlier today, so it may need some ironing out, but here's what I have.

  • THE RULES
    • Players can pick any real-life nation or culture of their choosing from any point in history from ancient times to the 21st Century and they will guide that civilization from a small settlement in the prehistoric times to a major empire of the present and future, thus having a chance to rewrite history.
    • All standard forum rules apply
    • No god-modding, ghosting, or any of that other stuff typically forbidden in RP's
    • The RP will be turn-based and I may include a random number generator for chance-related outcomes such as war and conquest.
    • Players can make alliances, enact diplomacy with each other, or wage war, but the victor of any war declared is decided through random number generation with modifiers based on military strength.
    • Players must pick actual civilizations but their leaders can be either historical figures or certain figures in the folklore or mythology of their culture but NOT current pop culture fictional characters (For example, someone playing as the Japanese can have the Shinto goddess Amaterasu as their civilization's leader, but having Sailor Moon as the leader of Japan would not be allowed). I may also allow OC leaders within reason.
    • That being said, the following historical figures are banned from being used as leaders by the players for reasons of good taste and decency
      • Adolf Hitler
      • Joseph Stalin
      • Mao Zedong
      • Slobodan Milosevic
      • Emperor Caligula
      • Pol Pot
      • Kim Jong-Il and Kim Jong-Un
    • All technological and cultural research would be turn-based and the more advanced research would take more turns to complete, obviously.
    • Turns are ended after all active players have made their post for that turn.
    • The starting point for all civilizations is a small hunter-gatherer settlement in the Stone Age, but with the right research, can quickly advance to conquer other civilizations.
    • Units, Buildings, Cultural Upgrades, and Technology Upgrades, as well as the amount of turns and gold needed to complete them will be listed and updated as the RP progresses.
    • A civilization can have three requests per turn. These requests are used to acquire units, buildings, and upgrades.
    • All civilizations start with 250 gold and a Town Center, and begin in the Stone Age
    • These are the following epochs in the game and their approximate real-life counterparts
      • Stone Age (Paleolithic and Mesolithic Eras)
      • Copper Age (Neolithic and Chalcolithic Eras)
      • Bronze Age (3500 BC-1200 BC)
      • Iron Age (1200 BC-400 AD)
      • Medieval Age (400-1400 AD)
      • Renaissance Age (1400-1600 AD)
      • Imperial Age (1600-1815 AD)
      • Industrial Age (1815-1918 AD)
      • Mechanical Age (1918-1945 AD)
      • Atomic Age (1945-1990 AD)
      • Digital Age (1990-The Present Day)
      • Cyberpunk Age (20 Minutes into the Future)
      • Space Age (Space Opera, Crystal Spires and Togas, Used Future)

Well, I'm not much of a poster around this parts, but I guess I'll give it a try later on, as I do enjoy this kind of games; I just hope that I can squeeze enough free time to give this a try, as I am indeed interested.

But alas, I developed a system that worked for this kind of games some time ago in the forum games section of Alternate History Dot Com, and here it is. It is a bit strange at first, but it's not so hard to GM on it. You may want to take some inspiration from it.

As for a good map, you can try using the maps for Hearts of Iron III. Especially Europe or North America. They are quite large and would allow for a long game. If you want them, I can post a link to them.

Hope it helps, and good luck!

Expressing interest. Haven't decided what nation to play as yet. Will post suggestions/questions at some later time.

[up] Behold! a huge-ass map! And here's Europe, North Africa and the Middle East (which would make sense if we put this as a game that starts on the Old World and later on moves to the New World), and here's North America (which is a bit more manageable if there are few players).

I'll post a profile for my country later on.
