Nah.
Insert witty 'n clever quip here.Well I think Weezer's looooong overstayed their welcome, so no, not really.
On my wave, passing oooooooonHonestly, I'm pretty sure the only Weezer songs I know are from the Blue Album (since it's the only one I have). Thought about listening to more from them before, but they're just not interesting enough to me to make me go the extra step and actually do it.
Insert witty 'n clever quip here. There's a new Weezer album?
To pity someone is to tell them "I feel bad about being better than you."I heard that Maladroit was atrocious, but what do I even know. I might look into it just to assess the damage, but I'm not expecting anything.
Their first few LPs are really good, though.
I'll hide your name inside a word and paint your eyes with false perception.I've long given up on the idea that the next album is going to be the one to equal the first two... And I've been waiting for such an album since, say, 2003. But the snippets sound alright so when this comes out I'm going to give it a try - I'm particularly intrigued by the clip of "The Wasteland", which could almost be called Black Sabbath lite.
Maladroit was the last album I liked (almost) all the way through at the time, and even then I haven't listened in years, though I might just because I'm curious as to how it holds up. I guess it's kind of a significant album of theirs for me just because 1) 2000 up to around 2004 was the time I was most involved with the fandom, and 2) the tour supporting that album was the only time I saw them live.
Earth is the only planet inhabitable by Nicolas Cage.I might be confusing Maladroit with a much more recent LP here, actually. Wait a second...
Nope, I was thinking of Raditude. That one was terrible. I remember Maladroit being pretty solid, now that I think of it.

E: Just started playing it again, and the opener is definetly one of my favorite Weezer songs.

Sing the song of sixpence that goes burn the witch, we know where you liveI like the first few Weezer albums (especially The Blue Album and Pinkerton- classics! ), but they just kinda... Well, didn't start sucking, exactly, but they did kinda stop being terribly interesting a while ago. Still, "The Wasteland" sounds like it might be a good song, so maybe I'll give it a shot...
If at first ya don't succeed, try a bit more, then give up or cheat... ;) -Myself Nothing can stop me now! -Piggy by Nine Inch NailsSo, they put up the full version of "Back To The Shack" now:
My thoughts in brief: The arrangement and vocal melodies are pretty good (particularly the chorus and bridge). The lyrics are pretty corny and on-the-nose, but the rest makes up for it.

Earth is the only planet inhabitable by Nicolas Cage."Back to the Shack" sounds like Cumo is trying to have his cake and eat it too. He's like "who, I'm gonna be a ironic about insulting people who are like weezer sucks so I'll give em an "old weezer" song.)
Frankly, nerd rock (think Nerf Herder, 311, Ween, TMBG, Less Than Jake, well and Weezer duh) just aint coming back man. Weezer had like, 3 good albums (blue, Pinkerton, and Maladroit) and then just fell off then map tbh.

Nerd Rock's not really a genre per se (the bands listed in most cases have little in common with each other musically), but your basic premise isn't far off. Though 311 and Less Than Jake have done decent records recently...

Damn, the new Weezer is honestly really good. By far its the best album they've released in years, and honestly I'm surprised in the best possible way.
I really enjoyed this album. My favorite songs were probably 'Da Vinci' and 'Go Away'. 'Eulogy for A Rock Band' was pretty cool too.
I haven't paid attention to the since the Red Album, but do they still do the "every odd numbered album is pop, every even numbered album is experimental" thing?
From what we've heard on the Weezer Wednesdays and the Back to the Shack preview it sounds to me like the best Weezer album since Pinkerton, and I actually thought Green, Raditude, and Hurley were pretty solid, and I've heard Maladroit is pretty good although I haven't given it a look myself, it sounds like the new one (Everything Will Be Alright In The End) is going to be a treat.
I really like Weezer
