The man had no D-Gazer to go with his Disk. Instead, his eyes seemed to glow, giving off an ominous red luminescence in the surrounding darkness of the alley. "Duel target locked on..."

"Duel!"

"I shall take the first turn." He drew his cards and raised an eyebrow. His new Number was calling.

"I Summon to the field Goblindbergh. And when he is Summoned, by switching him to Defense Position, I can Summon another Level 4 monster from my hand. I Special Summon Koa'ki Meiru Urnight." A large crate carried by three planes piloted by three goblins made its way to the ground. The crate opened up to reveal its cargo: an armored centaur-like creature wielding a sword and shield.

Goblindbergh: 1400 ATK -> 0 DEF
Koa'ki Meiru Urnight: 2000 ATK

"Now Koa'ki Meiru Urnight's effect activates. By revealing one Iron Core of Koa'ki Meiru in my hand, I can Special Summon another Koa'ki Meiru monster from my Deck. I choose my Koa'ki Meiru Wall." A third monster joined the fray, this one was a living wall made of sturdy stone. A single chain was attached to its chest.

Koa'ki Meiru Wall: 1900 ATK

"Hmph. I Overlay my Level 4 Goblindbergh, Koa'ki Meiru Urnight, and Koa'ki Meiru Wall. With these three monsters, I build the Overlay Network. Xyz Summon!" Three rays of orange light soared through the air, only to come diving down into the vortex that had opened below. "The ruler of the deep seas shall now rise to power! Take everything in your mighty jaws and crush them! Rise, Number 32: Shark Drake!"

A strange object appeared, shaped like the tooth of a shark. It began to unfold, spreading its fins and lifting its head to reveal a red-armored sea dragon.

Number 32: Shark Drake: 2800 ATK

"I end my turn here."

Mac nodded, and drew a card from his deck. "So, that's your big bad Number, huh? Not terrible, I guess."

He pulled a card from the top of his deck, adding it to his hand. "Hmm."

The first card went down onto his disk. "I'll start off by summoning Elemental HERO Neos Alius."

A small humanoid figure wearing what could be spandex appeared, crossing its arms. (Elemental HERO Neos Alius ATK: 1900)

"Then I activate the spell card Mask Change, letting me send Neos Alius to the graveyard to summon a Masked HERO monster from my Extra Deck."

A glowing mask appeared in front of Neos Alius, who slipped it on, being engulfed in light. The light faded to reveal a larger humanoid figure in gold and grey armor, with two long spikes sticking forward out of each arm. "Since Neos Alius was a Light-Attribute monster, this means I summon Masked HERO Koga." (Masked HERO Koga ATK: 2500)

"My monster's effect then activates, giving him 500 more Attack Points for each monster you control, which is in this case one." (Masked HERO Koga ATK: 2500 -> 3000)

"And now, since I have the stronger monster, I attack your monster." Koga leaped forward, as if aiming to spear the opposing monster with one of it's spikes.

The hit may have struck true, but when the smoke cleared, Shark Drake was still on the field without a single scratch to show for the attack.

"Number monsters can only be destroyed by another Number in battle. Your Masked HERO Koga cannot destroy my Shark Drake." The man said, brushing some of the dirt from his cloak.

Mac tilted his head to the side slightly. "A useful, and oddly specific ability. I guess that makes collecting them important, since then less people have cards that can beat it."

He sighed, and slapped three cards onto his disk. "I'll end with three set cards. Your turn."

"Actually the weirdest thing is no visible injuries" Axel said "If he had a duel disk on his arm he was killed during a duel so if you guys know any duelists tell them to be careful."

Axel walked away from the crowd, figuring that there wouldn't be a chance to see anything else with the police there.

Randall appeared a little insulted even that the academy seemed to want him back. He pulled his Duel Gazer from his pocket, and began flipping it in his hand.

"Okay, then. You think I need some Academy to teach me how to duel? I'll make you a deal. We'll have a Duel, right here and right now. If I win, then clearly I don't need your academy and I quit. I lose, drag me back there by all means. Fair?" Ramdall wanted this distraction over with. He already knew what the Numbers were and this joker was wasting his time attracting out the strong Duelists that tended to carry them.

"My draw, and I activate the card I drew, Diamond Core of Koa'ki Meiru." Urnight had revealed the Iron Core before, but this Core seemed much shinier and durable than the other one. "This card allows to me to add one Koa'ki Meiru to my hand, and I choose my Koa'ki Meiru Urnight."

"I then Summon Koa'ki Meiru Urnight to the field."

"I thought you'd never ask!" The boy flipped a blue Duel Disk from his belt to his arm, and put a similarly colored D-Gazer up to his eye.

"Duel!"

"I'm first. Draw!" He cried. Wasting no time, he slipped his first Spell Card into his Disk. "I activate the Spell Card, Reinforcement of the Army! With this card, I can add one Level 4 or lower Warrior-Type monster from my Deck to my hand. I choose my Level 3 Comrade Swordsman of Landstar."

"Now I Summon Marauding Captain!" A caped knight in steel armor appeared on the field wielding two longswords. He wore a battle-hardened expression on his face.

Marauding Captain: 1200 ATK

"But a good leader never rides into battle alone. I activate Marauding Captain's effect, letting me Special Summon one Warrior-Type monster from my hand, like Comrade Swordsman of Landstar!" Beside Marauding Captain appeared a little fairy with a small sword and shield.

Comrade Swordsman of Landstar: 500 ATK

"Not only does Comrade Swordsman of Landstar increase the ATK of all Warriors on my side of the field by 400, he's also a Tuner! So I tune my Level 3 Marauding Captain with my Level 3 Comrade Swordsman of Landstar!" Comrade Swordsman of Landstar transformed into three green rings, surrounding Marauding Captain before a bright burst of light.

"I Synchro Summon the Level 6 Goyo Guardian!" The light faded to reveal a warrior dressed in Japanese clothes, looking kind of like a Kabuki actor. It carried a whip of some sort in its hands, and it stared down Randall with the eyes on its painted face.

Goyo Guardian: 2800 ATK

The officer snickered. "I then Set three cards face-down and end my turn. It's your turn now. Show me if you're good enough to be playing hooky."

Mac shook his head, jabbing a button on his disk.

"I activate my trap card, Rivalry of the Warlords. Because of it's effect, you can only control a single type of Monster, and since you have two, pick one and send it to the Grave."

"Let's get it over with, I've got more important places to be."

Randall pulled his five cards out of his Deck, and looked at them with a scowl. This deck is nothing but toys! But there shouldn't be a need to go too hard on this fool.

"Alright, I summon Wind-Up Warrior, in attack mode!" In front of Randall, a small brown grumpy-looking wind-up toy appeared. (ATK: 1200) "Next, I'll play a Spell card, Wind-Up Factory!"

The wind ripped itself from Randall's sails as Goyo Guardian bore down on his targe charge, demolishing Wind-Up Warrior with almost no effort and continuing through to Randall himself, only barely slowed by the toy - and the impact he felt was a very real impact, blowing him off his feet and flinging him a fair few meters back, but he refused to give any kind of reaction and got back onto his feet without even a word, instead glaring daggers.(Randall 8000 -> 4400)

Randall drew his card with a grimace. I need some kind of defense here... Good, but bypassable. I'll have to go back to my first plan, if I'm going to get anything going with this deck.

"Just because you destroyed the Factory, doesn't make it useless to me... By removing from play a Spell card in my Graveyard, I can Summon Spell Striker from my hand, in Attack mode -" (ATK: 600) "-and since I have another Spell Striker in my hand, I should probably Summon it to give my first Spell Striker some company! Now it's your turn to feel the pain! Battle Phase!
