My hope is for Nintendo to make Hero Mode content for Splat2n even more pastiche-y of Metal Gear. More eccentric Octoling super-soldiers! Even more bizarre and fun exotic ink weapons! Codec conversation humor!
The three finest things in life are to splat your enemies, drive them from their turf, and hear their lamentations as their rank falls! Here's an idea of Splat2n's single player mode; you talk to Cuttlefish where he'll tell you stories of his time in the Octarian war and you get to play in those flashbacks. For added fun, if you ask him about his war buddies, you will be prompted to a multiplayer screen where your miiverse friends can join in.
We are all made of star stuff. Very, very weird star stuff.Well, how about...
Singleplayer flashback... they make us play as Cuttlefish.
Coop version, we can play as our own inkling.

Wait, Octavio actually says "slimy hipster?"
Yes he does in the US dub.
The three finest things in life are to splat your enemies, drive them from their turf, and hear their lamentations as their rank falls! That's funny, though, isn't it? I certainly never got the impression that turf wars were a counterculture thing. (There's also a cafe next to the Squid Sisters' studio, and I never saw anyone working on their screenplay there.)
Is that a Wocket in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me?I think it's more poking fun at how the Inklings follow the Rummage Sale Reject approach to equipment most of the time.
Also as far as squids in Smash goes, what I'd probably do is have either regular inklings playable (with the different equipment/genders as the alt colors) or have Callie and Marie be playable. As far as stages go I'd say either have the final boss stage, with Octavio himself as a stage hazard, or just pick one of the other levels and use it. Personally I'd go with Walleye Warehouse, Saltspray Rig, or Urchin Underpass, since those are the stages that were first revealed when the game came out and would be most iconic.
That said a more likely option that they would use is to do one of those "tour" style levels where you start in Inkopolis and the floating platforms take you around from stage to stage. Which would be a good way to showcase lots of levels, but personally I really prefer levels with static layouts to ones that move around a lot.
As far as expanded content in Singleplayer, here's what I'd like to see:
1. More exploration-based gameplay. Most of the singleplayer levels we have are very linear, with only the sunken scrolls encouraging any kind of exploring. With the game's emphasis on movement, there's a lot you could do with that.
2. Inklings teaming up with Octolings to face a greater threat. It was implied that they're making peace at the end of the first game, so it would make sense. It would also open up the option of playing as an octoling, though ideally that would include some sort of change in gameplay as well (e.g. greater attack power and HP, but slower movement speed and range) or something like that.
3. Actually having NPC's other than Cuttlefish in the levels. Bonus points if they act as supports in some levels. Like maybe in one level Marie helps you by using her charger to snipe enemies or something.

Reaction Image RepositoryI really don't like those tour stages, especially Skyloft. They're too hectic. I barely have time to get accustomed to the lay of the land before we're off and flying again. I know that's part of the fun for some, but I'd much rather have a nice, static stage based on an iconic locale from Splatoon (maybe Inkopolis itself?) than anything too wacky. Plus, they could do a Smashville thing where if you play on a Saturday night, there's a Splatfest going on.
As for playable representation, it's gotta be a generic Inkling with lots of alts. Four girl Inklings, four boy Inklings, each having a different outfit, hairstyle, hair color, skin color, and so forth.
Is that a Wocket in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me?My vote for Inkling representation is Agent 3- Because any Inkling can be a Rummage Sale Reject, but only the PLAYER is Agent 3.
In a burst of nostalgia I got myself Crazy Taxi 3, and in a burst of the music for the version I got my hands on being total bullshit I went ahead and Splatoon'd the music files. It is incredibly fitting, which is funny seeing how Splatoon feels like it has the spirit of a Dreamcast game.

"Yeah, it's a shame. Here we are in an underground cave with all these lasers, and instead of having a rave we're using it for evil."Splatoon is one of the '90s-est games ever made, so it fits.
I sure said that! One of the alts can be Agent 3, though! Maybe two (one boy, one girl).
Is that a Wocket in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me?I'd say that the Agent 3 costume would be the default (probably the orange girl and blue boy, since those are the ones who pop up most often in art) with other colors and gear as alts.
@Thrice: yeah, I'm not a big fan of those stages either. The static stages let you develop a certain feel with how you have to play them, which really doesn't happen when it changes every thirty seconds. The other thing is that the "tour" stages really feel indistinct; they're mostly interchangeable aside from the aesthetics. That said, I'd rather have an actual stage than Inkopolis, if only because then they could incorporate some of the actual stage design into it. I do like the idea of having it be a splatfest on certain days though.
Reaction Image RepositoryRealistically, I think the default costumes for both male and female would be the same ones used in the Smashified video, since they're the most iconic. It'd be like having Mario default to Fire Mario rather than his red and blue look.
Now you too can make your own origami squid.
We are all made of star stuff. Very, very weird star stuff.Regarding Smashing Inklings- I'd figure Orange Girl and Blue Boy would be costumes 1 and 2, with boss fight green Girl in the Hero Suit as costume 3. From there it's anyone's guess.
I sure said that!Just a heads up, I'm going to rant and spew swears like an overused meme.
HOLY! FUCKING! SHIT! Why the fuck can't I play rank without being hit with DC's?! The last week or so, half of my fucking ranked matches get hit with a DC! I keep losing my god damn S rank on my alt solely because of the constant DC's. What the fuck is wrong with this game?! Yes, I am blaming this game. I can't seem to play any fucking ranked matches but I can play turf wars just fine. I can play turf wars just fine while listening to a youtube video. I can play turf wars just fine while listening to a youtube video and while my brother plays Overwatch or FF 14. So why the fuck can I not play a single damning ranked match?! I literally had nothing else using my internet, so what the hell?! And to make this even more fucking infuriating, this is the second time where I got DC'ed when the game was over with my team in the lead. This is fucking ass!
...So... how is rank mode for you all?

We are all made of star stuff. Very, very weird star stuff.I only play Rainmaker these days when it comes to Ranked :P
The three finest things in life are to splat your enemies, drive them from their turf, and hear their lamentations as their rank falls! How are we doing in Ranked lately? Well I climbed out from A+sshole emporioum and made it to S-hitstorm some days ago. Or was it a week?
I had been using the Refurb Mini Splatling (idunnowhyilovethedesignsomuch) in Splatzones and Rapid Blaster Pro in Tower Control to much success. Though Rainmaker has been mostly a bust for me.
@Orion: I dunno what your issue is, since I haven't suffered a DC in quite some time. That said, I got busted all the way back down to A-rank just out of my own suckitude, so I'm not doing too hot either.
Reaction Image RepositorySeems the game is more strict about connection quality these days. It'll drop you sooner rather than lag out later.
The three finest things in life are to splat your enemies, drive them from their turf, and hear their lamentations as their rank falls!I've been going the opposite way with connection quality: the game seems like it would rather create a super-laggy match than DC me, which given that they blame you for every DC, i'm fine with, even if it means watching me get run over by a roller and not even flinch.
Made it back to S, which is the mic-drop moment for this version of the game. Not going to touch ranked again until March and Splatoon 1.5
Better yet: Give him a Mini-Mecha version of the Octobot King and have him as a fighter in that; or just take his humanoid form and make a fighter out of that.
