Splatoon

This thread has been rather dead lately. May I cast some necromancy and ask if anyone thinks the NX will have a Splatoon sequel or port of Splatoon instead?

We haven't done speculation on Splatoon in a long time.

Well we were disappointed by OCTOber. We can still speculate when Octolings will be confirmed.

Also, I probably would just start speculating on the NX thread once there's a look and release date. Then I can check what the launch titles might be. (Like say, Final Fantasy VII.)

That said, even though Splatoon's updates might be over in January I think the community will be alive and kicking long enough for them not to release the sequel for a while.

Not an annual shooter, but you'd be crazy to think there wouldn't be a sequel.

The co-director says he wants to "grow Splatoon as an IP" and it's not like Splatoon is getting any spin-offs.

Immediately after you said spinoff, I imagined a 2d platformer like Rayman Legends but add the Inkling Girl...

Speaking of which there seems to be a 2d retro platformer in the old, old single player trailer. I wonder what happened to it? Or maybe it will be released sometime soon.

I'm still holding out for rideable mounts like sea slugs or sea hares (they also hide in ink of course).

Also class/race selections for Splatoon 2. Inklings, Octolings, Anemones, Sea Urchins, Shrimp, Jellyfish. The latter 4 can't hide in ink so they should have new abilities.

Future villain: Mario! Ok not exactly him, but a villain based on his appearance from Super Mario Sunshine along with the water tank/cannon whose name I forgot.

My imagination created a fangame Hero Mode scenario that parodies the Metal Gear franchise and has a lot more bosses and even an Octo Gear battle or two.

I doubt it'll be a once-a-year thing (Nintendo doesn't usually roll like that), but I could definitely see it being a "one game per console" type of deal like Smash Bros. or Mario Kart. I'm more curious about the kind of content they'd add for a sequel (besides the obvious like new stages/weapons). So here are my theories/suggestions:

• Playable Octolings (duh)
• An expanded story mode with a slightly more involved plotline than "Octavio is up to something, go stop him". Maybe digging into the backstory a bit more.
• A bigger hub world with more exploration (like maybe you could hop on a subway and go to other parts of Inkopolis)
• A greater degree of customization for players (i.e. pants)

Splatoon 2 for the NX is pretty much a sure thing, being honest. I'm getting the feeling that's when we'll end up getting playable Octolings, at the very least.

On an unrelated note; is it me, or did Turf Wars get like, super hyper competitive since the Pirates VS Ninjas Splatfest? Pretty much every Turf Wars match I played was either extremely close or a complete Curb-Stomp Battle for or against the team I was on. I just got off of a match where I and the team I was on was able to wall the other team in at spawn.

I think that's just Conservation of Ninjutsu in action.

TV problems means I can't play Splatoon right now, unfortunately. I'm working on getting that fixed.

I'm mainly juggling several things. Though it's Thanksgiving Break now, so maybe I'll be able to squid a bit more often.

Want to squid. Finals wont let me. Assignments up my neck. Procrastination... overtaking...

A TRUE inkling would let NOTHING keep them from the turf war!

Though it occurs to me does Inkling society have anything we would recognize as formal education?

Well, school uniforms appear to be a thing at least.

Marie advises kids to stay in school and mentions having taken "Ink Battles 101", so yeah.

I think for gym class inklings just have turf war. Or atleast it would be the most popular one.

Then again, if my gym class had paintball, I might had actually enjoyed it over watching other kids run after a ball.

Turf Wars are Serious Business for these guys, so it wouldn't surprise me if it's up there with stuff like Math, History, and Science.

Despite being hedonists, they are secretly a militaristic culture, perhaps without knowing it...

Fashion and Turf War are probably the only popular school subjects, in that case.

I mean, it's easy to be militaristic when war is a non-lethal paintball game.

Perhaps Turf Wars is their ideal sport. Much like how the US is crazy for Football and the rest of the world is crazy for Football.

In the context of Splatoon, we are simply playing the little league games. They are kids after all.

God, what would college level Turf Wars look like?

Considering that it is a non-lethal paintball game that is a watered-down version of actual combat... it's probably apt to bring up a metaphor of lion cubs playing with each other. <3

I bet college-level or professional turf war leagues would be more of the same. Only members of the actual military (and Sheldon) get to access the real weaponry.
