The only way I can imagine this trope being illustrated is a character crying close to a blackboard with the love's interest name in it. Or, alternatively, close to a picture of the love interest in a table.

Suggestion: have a picture that shows a happy couple in the background, and a sad guy in the front. Not sure what show would produce a good example of this, but that should drive the point home.
