I'm not crazy about the GL pic, but my main issue with the suggestions is that I'm not sure that they're not some form of exotic energy rather than just light. That said, I'm not 100% opposed to them.
The one with the robots or the car standing on the bridge are the best out of those, clearly shows that its solid.
The one with the block has that, too, but IMHO the bridge looks a bit too much like glass to me in that one.
How does one differentiate between light and a solid translucent light emitting object?
I might mess around in blender and see what looks like light and what doesn't.
Pure white light could easily be a hard surface.

It is what it is.I humbly submit Rainbow Brite and Starlite◊ riding on a rainbow, and this "not so hard light◊" parody of Mario Kart and Thor.

I prefer the Portal suggestions, either 1.2 or 1.3.
Check out my fanfiction!Blender is a CGI image making program. Also, your Rainbow Brite image didn't work when I clicked on it, so I Googled it and found this: http://imgur.com/tGRIs89
Personally, I leaning towards the Portal image with Atlas and P-Body, though I'm curious if there's any image like that that clearly demonstrates that the source is light-based instead of glass.
I like Rainbow Brite. Yea. :3
It is what it is.Sorry about that, I double checked and it's working for me, no clue why it's giving you grief.
The main problem with all the OP pics is that to me they all look like a force field.

I would like to suggest Infi-nut from Plants vs. Zombies 2. Despite being a hologram, zombies can interact with it like any other plant. It's very clearly Hard Light.
Looked up the pic and it's not immediately evident that it can do so...good example, poor image source.
The clock is up and we don't have consensus on anything. Locking up; no action is to be taken based on this thread.
What the hell am I looking at? This just looks like a giant Ray Gun IN SPACE! shooting a guy with an enormous head. Some suggestions: Portal 2 came to mind first [1]◊[2][3]◊ (Similar concenpt is in Half-Life 2 [4]), but GIS showed something very similar in Halo. [5]◊ I'm open to other suggestions, though. Of course, there's also that thing at the end of Ocarina Of Time. [6]◊ (Needs to be cropped)
