Definitely. Though it would lose a lot of the novelty.
"It's so hard to be humble, knowing how great I am."Not if they re work some aspects for the medium change.
I really like the main theme. I swear it had different lyrics in earlier trailers though. And I think a few lines changed in the trailers. The King had a line of 'And by do it, I mean sex' but he never says sex in the show proper. I'm guessing they just tried to make it more 'kid-friendly'... Even though the Opening said 'Long legs and perfect skin/And a body built for Sin' and 'He loved her to excess/Thrice Daily more or less/She was screaming 'GALAVANT'!'
I feel like the show is more akin to Princess Bride than Spamalot.

Yeah, it's definitely very Princess Bride in tone. It's just the songs that remind me of Spamalot.
As for the novelty thing, that was referring to the fact that it's a TV musical. Which... Don't really exist.
"It's so hard to be humble, knowing how great I am."Well, the former is more explicit since they actually spell it out, vs the heavy coating of double entandre.
Sure, the TV musical novelty might be gone, but if it maintains its quality all the way through I'm sure it'll be good enough to stand on its own without that novelty sticking around. It's certainly looking like it'll be good on it's own merits beyond that novelty thus far.

Well, I mean, it seems that the opening lyrics changed too because I recently saw a promotional picture with all the 'Opening Song Lyrics' on it, except the Lyrics were incorrect.
http://abc.go.com/shows/galavant/news/updates/140925-galavant-preview-learn-the-lyrics-to-the-song
- Way back in days of old/There was a legend told
- About a Hero known as Galavant
- Square jaw and perfect hair/Cajones out to there
- There was no her quite like Galavant
- Tough! Plus ev'ry other manly value/Mess with him/He'd disembowel you!
- Yay, he ruled in ev'ry way!/A fairy-tale cliche'!
- And people called him Galavant!
- The man we're speaking of/He had a lady love
- A total goddess known as Madalena
- Long legs and glowing skin /A body built for sin.
- Plus more than just a touch of Nymphomania. Ah!
- Romance could hardly get much hotter / All day long he'd you-know-what-her.
- Then they'd you know what again / Three times or even ten!
- And she'd be screaming, 'Galavant'!
- One tiny problem/soon would a rise:
- Richard, a near by king of wealth and stature.
- He watched Madalena/Lust in his eyes
- And he asked for her hand/Well, more like a demand
- Well, more like had his hench-men snatch her.
- Which brings us to today!/The Royal Wedding day!
- No one can stop it now but Galavant!
- Poor Medalena waits/Behind King Richard's Gates
- For the arrival of her Galavant!
- Now, at last begins out true adventure/Epic, wild, a real Butt-Clencher!
- So, huzzah and tally ho!/Sit back and here we go!
- Attend the tale of Galavant.
The second and third verses are changed considerably. Here's the show's version of those parts.
- The Man we're speaking of/He had a lady love
- And, Madalena, she was one fair maiden
- Long legs and perfect skin /A body built for sin.
- With cleavage you could hold a whole parade in!
- Ah! True love was never this ecstatic! / Nor as wildly acrobatic
- Yes! He loved her to excess! / Thrice daily more or less!
- And she'd be screaming 'Galavant'!

Yeah, the old lyrics were the ones that played in the theatrical trailer version.
Still don't get why people thought this was going to be "family friendly."
ok boomerI wouldn't expect it to be faimily friendly. But Imglad they made that bit less... Crass.
"It's so hard to be humble, knowing how great I am."It was probably people say 'Alan Menken' and 'Disney's Tangled' and though 'CHILDREN!' Which is really unfortunate since, as much as I love the innuendo (I think the innuendo lyrics are better and FAR easier to sing), there are some instances where I think its just a bit... stupid? Like, the removal of the 'And by do it, I mean sex' and replacing it with 'Yeah, we'll open some gifts, but we are doing it' which isn't nearly as funny.
Also, King Dick is later complaining about 'respecting Madalena's vow of chastity' which wasn't really brought up so, I'm guessing there might have been a scene cut about that.
I hope they don't remove any King Dick jokes later on for this. Please, that's the reason you name a King Richard anymore!

I think the vow of chastity thing was just one more hint that Madelena really does have him wrapped around her finger.
"It's so hard to be humble, knowing how great I am."I understand that too, but it just seemed a bit oddly specific? We went from "We're going it. Tonight. We'll do the do. And, by do, I mean sex" to "I've been respecting her vow of chastity" in less than ten mins. Sure, the episode end shows she's clearly lying her ass off, but I sort of feel like we skipped a step here or something.
Then again, I suppose that entire scene is about how much of an absolute idiot King Richard is and how he's clearly missing everything that flies clear over his head. Eh.
Well, it was ten minutes for us, but it's been a whole year in the show.
"It's so hard to be humble, knowing how great I am."Well, at the very least 10 months since it was a flashback scene of two months prior.
Do people really not like Galavant's singing? I mean, his songs aren't musically complicated, but he didn't sound bad.
There's a blatantly weasel worded entry on the ymmv page about it that should probably be removed, but other than that I haven't heard people really complaining about it.
"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain.maybe the sex was just so completely awkward that vow of chastity seemed good enough
ophelia, you're breaking my heartI think they simply went with less crass lyrics since they're on network television and not cable.
(V)(;,,;)(V)I think when they put it on DVD and Blu-ray they will include the crass lyrics.
Batman Ninja more like Batman's Bizarre AdventureJust finished episode two and by God I love this series.
Also, it's a real shame we don't have a lyric video of "Stand Down!", the Training Montage song.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."I actually thought this version of the line was funnier myself.
I want the album to this.
the first songs are on itunes.
"You can reply to this Message!"I'll wait to see if they do a full album release I can buy on disk.
I thoughts the "Open presents" gag was funnier too. The original version was more obvious.
And I too am definitely buying the album if it comes out, if just to stop me humming the songs all the time.
Just got a chance to stream the first two episodes tonight, and definitely liking the show so far. I wonder how far they're going to go with the parodies and deconstructions, such as whether Galavant won't be able to pull himself back into shape and it'll be Sid and Isabella who are the real heroes, etc. Also, in response to this post:
I kinda had a feeling about this even after seeing the trailer a few times, simply because Richard is such a completely unthreatening villain. (Also I mistook one lyrics as saying "It's not a plot we know" instead of "It's a lot of plot we know", and so started trying to think of all sorts of alternatives and subversions that could be at work.) I will be very amused if that does happen.

| Wandering, but not lost. | If people bring so much courage to this world...◊ |I almost feel sorry for King Richard, almost. Also, I am thinking at first Madalena was terrified, but then eventually picked up on the fact that King Richard would be easy to manipulate and maybe within a year she could be Queen, win Galavant back (if she even wants him back), and have the King dead. Also, I really like Garreth. The bit with him noticing what is really going on between Madelena and the Jester is hilarious. And I only almost feel sorry for the King because, well, he did kidnap her.
Given the length, I could easily see this being reworked into a stage musical and/or movie.
