Am I the only one that's getting tired of the movies influence on the comics? I mean, I like them too, but do we have to see it everywhere? Nick Fury Jr. show up... Nick Fury's black son with the same name who just so happens to look like Samuel Jackson. The movie Avengers team being shoved out all over the place while Classic Avengers are shoved to the side. The changed costumes.

It is annoying, but what are you going to do? This is a business first.

This is nothing new.

Jimmy Olsen, and Kryptonite were introduced in the Superman Radio show and then later moved to the comics.

Batgirl was introduced first in the Adam West TV Show, and later moved to the comics.

Comics being influenced by more successful media adaptations is nothing new.

[up]I agree it is nothing new like the fact that the Batcave was introduced in a 1943 movie serial Bob Kane was on the set of the movie and they decided to incorporate it in the comics in 1944.

I think people do tend to exaggerate the impact the movies have on the comics. I mean, yeah, villains from the movies tend to pop up in the comics. The movie Avengers were seen a lot when the mover came out. And costumes will often be altered. But the costumes are purely cosmetic, so that's not worth complaining about. There were other books with other Avengers line-ups, so that's a petty complaint.

But in terms of affecting the overall stories, they don't. Iron Man's not dating Pepper in the comics. SHIELD hasn't just fallen apart in the comics. Jane Foster's not really a presence in the comics right now.

The movies influence some of the superficial stuff in the comics. But it's not that big a deal.

[up]I agree.

Frankly, from what I can see the biggest actual impact the movie had on comics stories so far was Nick Fury Jr and Avenger Hulk. The first is kinda stupid, sure, but the second really isn't that big deal. It have been 8 years and the worst that happened was Nick Fury having a black son. I honestly don't see the problem.

[up] You forgot that Hawkeye changed his costume. Truly, the movies are ruining the comics.

And yes, Hawkeye's costume is something I've seen a lot of bitching about, and in the context of bitching about the movies influencing the comics.

Individual instances of outside media influencing the comics is one thing. What's going on now is something else entirely. Nick Fury Jr. replacing Nick Fury people.

[up]I am behind my Secret Avenger reading, I admit. But, as far I can notice, Nick Jr. haven't, in fact, replaced Nick Senior at all. He is just one more agent. The director is still Hill.

Also, I already acknowledged Fury Jr. existence is kinda stupid. It is a blatant way to catch in the popularity of Samuel L. Jackson. However, it is still one example. I can't see how one "become tired" after a single example. Unless you count the hideous and canon defying events of Hawkeye's new uniform or Hulk being in the Avengers.

I don't mind Black Nick Fury. It was inevitably going to happen due to the Samuel L Jackson portrayal being just plain awesome. The way they did it was actually pretty clever, doesn't do something stupid like put him in a clone body, or cosmetically change his race, or reincarnate him in a new body. The solution is easy to hand wave, doesn't alter much, and can be easily forgotten and discarded if it becomes cumbersome.

Overall, it's pretty boss.

I don't think black Nick Fury is anything new. You had artists drawing Wolverine more like Hugh Jackman and a brief period where they tried to make Mystique more like her reptile counterpart.

What's specifically happening here is that now that Disney owns Marvel, the brand is being spread out across more mediums than ever before so they want a semi-consistent image. You had an awkward situation where Nick Fury looked like Sam Jackson in literally every other medium but the comics, and ditto Hawkeye in his leather spy gear, so they stepped in to rectify that.

Fury, Jr. is only in one book on any regular basis. Same with Coulson, though he does make cameos in other books. So while I disliked Fury, Jr. - and in particular, I thought he came about in kind of a lame way - it's not a big deal. And it's really the only example of other media having a major effect on the comics. or the most part, it's costume changes and villains getting arcs. It's not like The Wolverine led to Wolverine in the comics going back to his bone claws. Iron Man 3 didn't lead to Tony Stark getting rid of his armours. It's almost all cosmetic stuff, and honestly, that shit's just not worth getting upset about.

[up][up][up]Yeah. Something of that nature (race lifting) is much harder to import into comics because short of a Continuity Reboot or some sort of alternate universe equivalent, it's hard to explain why Character X suddenly just became Chinese to look more like his or her movie equivalent.

I think I'm more okay with it now than I used to be. It's mostly just cosmetic stuff, and when it's not, it's usually not a bad addition at all (Harley Quinn, the Chitauri, Kryptonite, Hawkeye getting his own series...).

Of course, things like Thanos and Star-Lord somehow surviving the destruction of the Cancerverse in time for their film debuts, as well as the aforementioned Fury Jr. are blatant cash-in attempts, but aren't really THAT big of a deal.

It depends on what is being changed from the movies to the comics. Personally, I prefer the movies to be separated from the comics so that way, we would have different interpretations of our favorite characters without having to resort to forcing changes in the comics to do that. However, overall it doesn't seem that the movies are affecting the comics too much, just in little spades like the Nick Fury Jr. situation and having the Avengers team from the movies dominating the Avengers comics when in the past, there were different members in the Avengers team.

I love animation, TV, movies, YOU NAME IT!
