This image has even less context. The image up there at least illustrates something that never was.
Goal: Clear, Concise and WittyAye, suggestion is even worse than the current.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanDo any of you tropers have any suggestions for better images? We need something better than the "Mario one with the Bullet Bill as a weapon" image. I checked Wikipedia and other sources of research. Nintendo NEVER had plans on making a game like that. The current image is obviously Fanon material.

I am not worried about the work never having been in planning as the trope is not restricted to "in development". I am worried if anything about whether it illustrates the trope, and there it's Keep Until Better Image Suggested-worthy.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanThe Mario image feels like Fanon or YMMV. The trope (What Could Have Been) should part of Trivia.

I admit that the image I posted is not very good.
The suggestion is pure JAFAAC. All I can see there is some guy with a sword.
I am actually inclined for a BUPKIS.

Here is the definition of the trope from PlayingWith. What Could Have Been:
"A work was meant to have something in it, but it never made it to the final release, due to something else."
See? There has never been a Mario game in development that was meant to have Mario shooting Bullet Bills. That's why the image isn't very fitting with the Video Game page of the trope.
The image is Edison from Project Dream (prototype for Banjo Kazooie). It's NOT YMMV.
I deleted the image of Edison.
I think the original image was trying to illustrate this fact, from the Super Mario Bros. section:
- For the original Super Mario Bros, Mario originally was meant to shoot bullets rather than fireballs. Also, Miyamoto originally planned the controls to be A to shoot, B to run, and up on the control pad to jump, but it was decided that being able to run and shoot at the same time was too much of a Game-Breaker, so it was changed to put both shooting and running on the B button, meaning the jump could be moved to A.
Sorry I meant JAFAAC. In other words, I don't see the how the trope is illustrated in that picture at all unless I am familiar with the game (which I obviously don't). Same goes with the new suggestion, although it might look better if we see the final version of the game and point out the difference.
That sounds plausible enough for me to vote to keep the current.
I think "Mario with a gun" is weak but it is the best suggestion so far.
Becky: Who are you? The Mysterious Stranger: An angel. Huck: What's your name? The Mysterious Stranger: Satan.I need you guys to come up with better images. I can't be the only one who's giving suggestions.
As for the Mario example, it said that Mario was meant to shoot "bullets" not "Bullet Bills".
BTW I changed the Banjo Kazooie images of Mumbo's Mountain. Personally, I think they have much more context than the current Mario image.

I don't see the difference?
I just find that nitpicking.
One reason Mario works is that he's known enough to escape Fan Myopia. He jumps on enemies and uses weird powerups. He doesn't use conventional weaponry.
Check out my fanfiction!"I need you guys to come up with better images."
What?! Nobody is ever obligated to make a suggestion because somebody else demands it. (They may be obligated to make a suggestion for some reason, and someone else may demand they do, but the latter is never the reason for the former.)
The current image is fine. If you don't like it, suggest something that others agree is an improvement.
Becky: Who are you? The Mysterious Stranger: An angel. Huck: What's your name? The Mysterious Stranger: Satan.Since many people are more familiar with The Legend of Zelda than Banjo-Kazooie, I found a better image.
The caption might be "Did you know that the triforce was supposed to be in the final game?"
What do you guys think?

To Another Duck:
There has never been a Mario game in development where Mario uses conventional weaponry. I don't think anyone in Nintendo said that Mario was meant to use a bullet bill gun.

Asside than the bad quality, I would say that it's JAFAAC, but almost any image we get will be this. So, it could be acceptable. I think a lot of people are familiar with Zelda, but it will need a caption.
Image Source. Please update whenever an image is changed.Picking an image based on what people are familiar with is among the worst criteria possible. "Mario with a gun" is okay despite its reliance on familiarity, not because of it.
Please read How To Pick A Good Image and Just A Face And A Caption.

Becky: Who are you? The Mysterious Stranger: An angel. Huck: What's your name? The Mysterious Stranger: Satan.I picked the Zelda image because most of the tropers on this page told me they are not familiar with Banjo Kazooie. To stop the argument, I picked the Zelda image. The Zelda image also illustrates the trope. There was supposed to be a triforce in the final game, but it got cut.
To Rethkir: I already said what the caption might be. ("Did you know that the triforce was supposed to be in the final game?")

The image feels like a Zero Context Example and was obviously made by a fan. There has never been a Mario game in development where he shoots with a bullet bill.
