The show was funny. What else can I say?
That, plus it featured one of my favorite voice actors, Richard Steven Horvitz, doing a great role as Daggett.
"They say I'm old fashioned, and live in the past, but sometimes I think progress progresses too fast."Best Nicktoon Everâ„¢. The one I watched the most by far in my childhood.
Me too! I used to watch this Nicktoon the most out of all the other Nicktoons when I was younger!
I love animation, TV, movies, YOU NAME IT!It was one of my favorite of the 90s Nicktoons.
has a clue, but it's usually not the correct one 0.55% of the timeIt was a show about 2 siblings arguing with one another - but it was funny, entertaining, and actually had a sense of heart that makes (even today, according to some people) a grand majority of it one of the best Nick - no, cartoons of all time.
There are far too many Canadian Flash cartoons out there trying and failing to do what this did so easily, which is kinda sad when I think about it.
Even if I had different face, I AM STILL DISGRACED.Bizarre thing is that Nickelodeon had two cartoons on at the same time about two siblings who are unlike each other yet have to live together: this and Cat Dog.
Judging by everything I know about the history of both, though, it's only a coincidence.
"They say I'm old fashioned, and live in the past, but sometimes I think progress progresses too fast."Yeah, just like that time that Disney and Cartoon Network both had shows about an Asian-American kid who had inherited mystical powers, and they both had talking dogs, and they both had the initials J. L.
That's just a simple coincidence. This, however... There's two shows with the same type of premise, on the same network! Is your mind blown yet?!
(I can also remember when, some time after CN announced Flapjack, Disney Channel announced a cartoon entitled Poopdeck, which was basically the same thing. It never got produced, but it probably may not have been a coincidence... The Flapjack crew even produced an episode that was a parody of the whole thing.)
"They say I'm old fashioned, and live in the past, but sometimes I think progress progresses too fast."
Oh yeah, I heard about the incident about CatDog being somewhat similar to The Angry Beavers (such as both Dog and Norbert have purple noses and both shows dealt with sibling rivalry). I wonder if Cat Dog was made in response to the popularity that Angry Beavers was getting?
I love animation, TV, movies, YOU NAME IT!Both shows were presumably being created years in advance. It takes a while to develop a show. The person who made one probably didn't know the other. (Although Peter Hannan did tell me he knew Mitch Schauer. Presumably not until he got to Nick Studios.)
Besides, from what I know about Cat Dog it was starting to be produced right when the Beavers had just started broadcasting.
"They say I'm old fashioned, and live in the past, but sometimes I think progress progresses too fast."Bye Bye Beavers is the greatest radio show episode ever recorded.
Oh! I didn't know that Peter Hannan knew Mitch Schuaer (but then again, all the creators of these Nicktoons had to meet each other at some point).
I love animation, TV, movies, YOU NAME IT!He also told me he knew Craig Bartlett, Stephen Hillenburg and Joe Murray.
So you are kind of right.
"They say I'm old fashioned, and live in the past, but sometimes I think progress progresses too fast."I'm much more skeptical of this show.
What with all the (undeserved) hate for shows like Sanjay and Craig and Breadwinners while similar shows like this and the stuff at CN get a free pass.
- Two-person dynamic.
- The fact that a lot of bad 90's and 80's shows are looked back on as good.
- And the overall bias for 90's Nick and against modern Nick
Those are the reasons for my skepticism.
Nostalgic blindness, my friend. Nostalgic blindness.
In my opinion, not liking current kids' shows is fine as long as you are aware that this is your judgment and take care to express it in a sane, reasonable way.
What are the bad 80s and 90s shows looked upon as good anyway?
Now, where were we... I believe we were talking about Norb and Dag's big disco hit, "Beaver Fever"?
"They say I'm old fashioned, and live in the past, but sometimes I think progress progresses too fast."The Super Mario Bros. Super Show! comes to mind. Also, the classic TMNT and many other 80's shows made to only sell toys.
I was under the impression that the Mario cartoons were seen as So Bad, It's Good.
As for the half-hour toy commercials, it's my opinion that they probably wouldn't have been successful if they weren't in some way good.
Let's face it, if the Average Man would watch anything like some people say, Allen Gregory would still be on.
But I do believe we were on a discussion about "Beaver Fever," that hilarious episode, and the great music made for this show?...

"They say I'm old fashioned, and live in the past, but sometimes I think progress progresses too fast."It's hard to keep writing hit songs when your ego interferes with your creativity.
Something a lot of people in the music industry don't get - if we were to apply such logic to real world applications.
That episode delivered that realistic moral well. And I haven't seen it in years, sadly...

Even if I had different face, I AM STILL DISGRACED.
Yeah! Beaver Fever was one of my most favorite episodes of all time! The song was really catchy and I just loved the plot of the entire episode!
I love animation, TV, movies, YOU NAME IT!I hated that episode when it first came out since I didn't get that the nonsesnsical lyrics were intentional.
ETA: Never mind, I was thinking of the Tree Flower episode, I think.

You mean the Bummer of Love episode or the Tree of Hearts episode? Bummer of Love was when Norbert meets Treeflower for the first time at a rock concert and Tree of Hearts was when Treeflower started dating Truckie, that little rat that Daggett hates.

I love animation, TV, movies, YOU NAME IT!
For anyone who used to watch this show on Nickelodeon, how did you feel about this show?
I personally loved this show when it came out since Daggett and Norbert were some of the best sibling characters I had ever gotten to know! I'm still angry about how it got cancelled though.
