Okay, it was pointed out on this Image Pickin' thread that Strong Family Resemblance is Uncanny Family Resemblance, But More Specific to parents and their children.

There was previously a thread for Uncanny Family Resemblance, but Fast Eddie edited the article to be more multimedia and locked that thread before it was open for discussion so that we can decide what to do with this trope.

Fast Eddie's stance on this trope, in case you guys are wondering, is to "discard as superfluous", if I got that right.

Merge and redirect might make sense. The name even sounds like a searchable redirect.

I agree with "merge and redirect". Currently, they're basically the same thing.

Hrmm, I agree with merging, but I would prefer Strong Family Resemblance for a notch more clarity.

Wicks and inbounds:

  • SFR has 853 wicks and 125 inbounds.
  • UFR has 395 wicks and 266 inbounds.

[up]Coming to think about it, Wiktionary said that the interpretation of the word "uncanny" closest to what is used in this context is "Simultaneously familiar and foreign, often uncomfortably so", and even then, that's not how this word seems to be exactly used in this context.

So support using Strong Family Resemblance as the name of the merged trope.

I disagree. Reading the definitions, it sounds like two different tropes whose names are causing confusion between the two...UFR is "actor plays multiple familial roles, especially to play off the idea's comedic potential" while SFR is "child is carbon copy of parent appearance-wise." Renaming one or the other would help, but for right now [tdown] to a merge.

The effect is very much the same either way, whatever the reason. So while I can see an Internal Subtrope, I do not see a difference beyond that.

...Nevermind. [up] essentially made a better argument, in my opinion.

Support merge and redirect under Strong Family Resemblance as suggested above.

Clock is set. I still disagree with the merge for the stated reasons.
