Putin's war against Russia's last independent TV channel.
No discussion regarding nuclear war. As nuclear weapons are not being used by either side, nuclear war is off-topic.

Putin judo book to be distributed to millions of Russian schoolchildren
YES. I need to get my hands on this.
Si Vis Pacem, Para PerkeleSince it's Independence Day in the US, I'd thought I'd pop over here to say thanks to the Russians for being one of the lesser known allies of the rebellion; France, Spain, and Prussia to a limited extent are required knowledge for all American high-school students, but the contributions of Russia and Poland tend to be overlooked entirely in popular culture.
As a fun fact, one of the greatest American war heroes eventually came to serve in Catherine's navy against the Turks following a lack of employment [so to speak] following the end of the American Revolution. While he rose to become one of the Tsarina's best commanders, his own success proved to become his undoing as rival Russian and British mercenary officers conspirated against him. He was eventually forced to leave Russia after being subjected to a extremely likely orchestrated sex scandal.
Bilingual Bonus: Pavel Dzhones = [John] Paul Jones
I've read his previous book on the subject, and it's actually really damn good. Putin knows what he's talking about when he writes about Judo.
What is the correct English equivalent of the Polish-Russian adjective "Smolensky/Smolenski"?
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.Generally "of Smolensk" or "Smolensk's", depending on subtext can be "from Smolensk".
None of these are adjectives, though. They're possessive phrases, IINM. Think "Russian" and "Cypriot" being the adjectival forms of "Russia" and "Cyprus", respectively.
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.Oh. In Russian that isn't an adjective, sorry. What you meant is "Smolenchanin"
TBH you have me cornered. "Smolensker" sounds silly'. Maybe "Smolenian"? "Slovenian" is "Slovensky/Slovenets" in Russian.
Russian authorities and the subversive plot that is Pokemon GO
Si Vis Pacem, Para Perkele......really? *facepalm*
That's actually exactly how I imagined we, with our love of seeing the work of intelligence agencies everywhere, would react to this. Although to be fair, individual stupid and/or overly paranoid politicians do not exactly count as "many Russians", and I actually see nothing wrong with the fourth quote (and that's coming from the Commies, our resident angry old conservative hangout, imagine that!)- having policemen and other civil servants hunt pokemon during work hours would indeed be very detrimental to the functioning of our state. At least with solitaire and Angry Birds you don't run around like an idiot while completely oblivious to your surroundings.

On the other hand, Russian policemen often don't get very glowing reputations.
It's worth mentioning that I encountered a Russian family at the local supermarket last Sunday. I managed to recognize "Nyet" and "Da" in the mother and father's conversations with their three children. They seemed to be tourists, since all of them were carrying conspicuous bags which amusingly were all DC comic merchandise. Unfortunately, the father was a Perpetual Frowner and didn't really seem to want to talk to anyone else. What interested me most in them was how rather out of place they were for Russian tourists; I live in a community largely characterized by its huge Asian population, which makes it an absolute magnet for Asian tourists but not Eurasian ones.
If I may ask, where do you live?
Meanwhile, Sberbank is offering free insurance for people who get injured playing Pokemon Go. Either the terms and conditions are going to be a Doorstopper or someone else's premiums are going up.
I wonder if there are any Pokemon in the East Ural Radioactive Trace?
I have disagreed with her a lot, but comparing her to republicans and propagandists of dictatorships is really low. - An idiotI technically reside in Whittier, Richard Nixon's hometown that's currently non-Asian dominant. However, I live right on the edge of the city limits, which means that the two communities (Rowland and Hacienda Heights) with large concentrations of Asians are only a very short drive away. The area is most famous for two things: the Hsi Lai Buddhist temple which is the largest in North America, and the Puente Hills Mall where Back To The Future was filmed.
The Moscow city government is planning to introduce an augmented reality app allowing users to track down and photograph various Russian historical figures and Napoleon around Moscow.
Yes, it's their take on Pokemon Go.
Can they do something similar for Nizhny Tagil?
I have disagreed with her a lot, but comparing her to republicans and propagandists of dictatorships is really low. - An idiotThat actually sounds pretty fun.
Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.Worth cross posting here from the US Politics Thread.
Fresh on the heels of the revelation that the recent DNC email hack was carried out by the Russian government and then given to Wikileaks in an attempt to discredit Clinton and ensure a Trump presidency. Repulican leader Donald Trump now explicitly asks for more Russian hacking and intervention in the election.
It's also worth mentioning that Trump is a big admirer of Putin and has said in the past that he will not uphold NATO's promise to defend the Baltics in case of Russian incursion.
This is the stuff treason is made of.
Oh really when? This should be being plastered everywhere to discredit Trump.
Inter arma enim silent legesYou know I did consider posting Trump's promises not to defend the Baltics in the Military Thread but that one is sort of refreshing apolitical.
Oh really when?Outside TV Tropes of course, like you how in the hell are you trying to elect someone who'd outright turn the backs on US allies, ask foreigners to interfere with US politics and hand out confidential information to other politics outsides the US.
Plain and simple, Trump is a traitor, but I know Trump supporters are morally myopic enough to think that is a good thing.
Inter arma enim silent legesHearing various news organizations reporting a sizable data breach in Russian government systems. Given recent events a few are wildly speculating about a possible tit-for-tat.
Wrong thread, sorry.

Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.Or maybe neither Russia nor US didnt hack anyone. If you get hacked, and reveal it only after the information gets leaked, it seems like you just found a convenient excuse to blame guys you don't like. Also, why hack the country that manages to do it to itself just fine, and even has a special site for that? Also, international relations work a bit differently from neighbours' quarrels.
BTW, FSB is being honest by saying we don't know who tried to hack us. If USA were involved, the resulting shitstorm could be seen from Ireland.
Nox - If asking other countries to interfere in your politics is treason, then our entire opposition camp is made up of traitors, since having the EU come and rule us over like a colony is their oft-repeated wet dream.
Other than that, this whole situation is getting a bit ridiculous. Trump asking Putin to help him air his opponents' dirty laundry sounds like something out of a bad Tom Clancy novel.
Probably Medvedev, and given how our standoff with the US of A is also implied to end in 2018, his second term will most likely be accompanied by a shift in policy as well.
