Episode 8: Being Shogo is suffering.

Why would be more embarrassing to go to the beach together than anywhere else?

For all his bumbling and grumbling Shogo is always there Yuuki.

Eating octopus wieners starting from legs is only logical, no?

Of course it had to rain... but that won't stop them from having fun.

What happens when your friends egg you about your love life:

Saki is like "Hase-kun have you seen dem titties?"

Shogo is like "If I want to explain it to her, I'll need a freaking chart."

Nice photo.

Yeah, I wonder why she wants to use the word "like" so often lately... hmmm.

...

Wait, who is that? No, no, everything was going so good, don't you dare throw any sudden twists on me anime!

I like how this episode and the corresponding chapter were all like "Beach Episode: Fanservice of bikinis for you all!", then proceed to crush your (and Hase's) foolish expectations. This is not that kind of manga.

Then again, no one is here for that, the only fanservice I want is Fujimiya being innocently cute.

I am deliberately abstaining from commenting on our newcomer.

Oh, and don't let the ominousness of the preview fools you, most of next episode will be about summer homeworks being done the last day...with a little extra between our two protagonists (no, not telling). I can only say that Fujimiya's mom will be having a field day with it. It's the end of it, though, that will send everything to hell.

(referencing future events in the manga) Ninth-episode twist, huh? Typical. I wasn't sure when this event would happen, but this timing... Hm. Is this tendency mentioned in the twelve episode anime trope? Because it seems really common to me in pretty much any 11-13 episode anime with any plot progression. Well, at least I haven't read enough of the manga to know the ending yet.

[up]*ominous

Episode 8. In which there's a beach.

If she wasn't so innocent and honest, I'd swear she was deliberately pulling him by an iron collar.

Shogo is best friend.

She really remembers the odd details. Well, I suppose actually writing stuff down would skew what you remember to something a little bit more unusual.

Too wet sand for sand castles? Isn't wet sand better at building with? On the other hand, raining on the castle isn't really that good.

A beach ball in rain and wind? No.

Why is it always crane games?

Rain that comes quickly usually ends quickly.

She asks what he likes about her, not if. Which he denies as something weird. Is it weird to like someone?

It's really kind of natural for her not to recognise feelings. Those are kind of hard to describe, and she never has much time to develop them. Which makes it a little unsympathetic for Shogo to decline to explain. Well, at least he nudges from the other direction.

I'm getting good at refraining from reading spoilers.

Episode 8:

  • Shogo's always being dragged around. But he gets even sometimes. Like hanging on Yuki mid-thanking.tongue
  • To the beach. A rainstorm just happened to invite itself, though.tongue
  • Saki's another good sand artist.
  • Beach balls and rain do not mix. Nor do lightweights.tongue
  • Crane games are evil. Why do y'all enjoy burning your cash on them? Well, Shogo has a counter to their evil: Being cold as ice.tongue
  • Shogo's quite photogenic.tongue
  • Saki forgets stuff, but when it comes to Kaori, she'll retain every aspect of her. Every. Aspect. Don't you forget it.tongue
  • Kaori likes a lot of things. Knowing that, Shogo made the call in not pressing the love issue.
  • Who's the new face? Heh, he must be...

Episode 9. In which there are cookies.

Ominous title.

Kind of obvious what they're really talking about.

"You're childhood friends."
"We are?"
And she's entirely sincere about it. Well, it's to be expected.

Pretty harsh. "I only remember the good things." And she forgot about him.

I always find it funny when they say they're going to do it together, and then they sit and do it on their own anyway.

Kaori would make a great programmer.

I'm getting hungry. No idea why...

The way he wonders if he's helping her is kind of a Perfect Solution Fallacy. Like if he doesn't solve all her problems he doesn't do anything at all. Which is a little bit at odds with how it was in the beginning.

That's a touching scene between the dependable and the undependable.

Yeah, not being afraid to make friends is probably the best way to get over the issue about not being able to remember friends.

I can agree with that sigh. She's so innocent it hurts sometimes.

His idea of impure is impure.

Way to drop a drama bomb. Not knowing anything more, I'd say the most logical conclusion is that he's why her memory is as it is.

It's called a relapse. It's not the end of the world.

I've recently read somone talk about "9th episode twist" - that 12 episode anime will inevitably have a twist in 9thi episode and remaining episodes will deal with it's fallout.

It seems there's something true about that.

  • "Last Day With Friends." Indeed. In more ways than one...
  • Yep, Kaori really loves math. She found a way to make it interesting, after all.
  • Shogo, why are you writing? Didn't you finish your homework... ...Ah. You're such a bro. I wonder if Saki will not forget you even exist now...tongue
  • Kaori's purity level: Ultra High.
  • Yes, it's a miracle alright. But then...
  • "Traitor." The cursed word that sent everything to nil. Not cool, or nice, Kujo.

Episode 10. In which there's almost but not quite starting over.

Well, that makes it clear that she did previously retain some memories, even if she forgot about all. In case that wasn't obvious.

Teasing Hase like that makes him seem like a good guy.

I wonder how long it'll take to ask him what happened back then.

His self esteem is ridiculously low. Whatever happens, he thinks Kaori doesn't like him.

Those two are so vertically different.

Rejected. But she got to him.

I'd have run after her and talk with Kujo later.

Someone reasonable would see through his taunting. Which he does.

[up]I get the impression he doesn't as much hate her as have some lingering resentment for her, but otherwise don't really care. Kind of like he doesn't want her to be happy, but also doesn't wish her any real harm.

Episode 11. In which there's clarity.

Don't ask for something back if you don't want it. Well, liberal interpretation might help.

If you're trying to hide, trying to hide literally in an obvious place isn't going to help.

"Imagine him smiling!"
"That's scarier!"
Sure, it's rude, but it's funny.

Girl hijack.

I find it somehow unusual that Kujo's also out of the loop, despite being close to the centre of it, without it revolving around him. But he's also curious about what actually happened.

Fast ones are funny. If they're not overused. Like just about anything.

"She said it helped her do better." I think that aspect of helping others with schoolwork is almost always neglected. Someone helping someone is always a one-way thing, with potential romantic side effects. Unless it's explicitly said they're helping each other.

So that was the reason for the hijack. Obvious where they're going, though.

Finding out didn't seem to do any significant harm. Get a clue. And she dutifully writes it down, even if it's emotional. Or because it is.

There's a difference between doubting her, and rejecting her.

Yeah, the usual, "Let's not do anything that could possibly cause harm at the cost of not doing anything that could mean happiness."

[up]Not so much an Idiot Ball as him being his usual stupid self.

Honestly, everything kind of seems milder than I expected.

Episode 11:

  • A smiling Shogo is scary. ...Even if he were to do a small smirk?[lol]
  • Kujo's so indifferent to Kaori. Yeah. Not fazed by Yuki's quick balls at all.tongue
  • So Kaori wasn't always a Math wiz, but after helping out Kujo, she became one. ...Does this mean Yuki will become a Math wiz? I...can't see that happening.tongue
  • The girls went to karaoke. The main mission: Help solve Saki's Shogo problems.
  • ...So that's why Kaori's in this state. Jealously's one way to bring out one's monster. Kujo now knows all. And so does Kaori.
  • Hajime laments his folly. And the truth burns, but Kaori will still write.
  • And so, in order not to fall into the same despair as Kujo, Yuki decided...to be aloof. Because giving Kaori the cold shoulder will surely prevent any source of tragedy.

Episode 12. In which Hase realises what we all knew.

Good idea. Talk to him. The good friend.

Love her face before drawing the stick. And after.

For some strange reason, Saki's a lot more comfortable talking about Hase and Kaori than when Shogo first approached her. Then he changes the subject to what matters.

Roger! smile She comes off as a lot more sensible and, surprisingly, mature than Hase for similar stuff.

Sure, travel.

If it's that cold, you don't put your hands on the railing.

Did he just eat the wrapping alone with the crepe?

It's kinda cute how they don't want to walk away from each other.

Saki trying to stop Shogo's hand before he hits her head is funny.

Kinda strange how they all focus on them.
