General Kingdom Hearts Fanfiction Thread

I don't know how to put this so I'm going to be utterly blunt about it: I don't like the story. At all.

I'm not talking about your guys's stories. They're great. Especially Eva's because he made Roxas into a goddamn beast with Xion being on her way on to being Kenshiro.

I'm talking about the canon story. I think that with the dumbest retcons (mainly from 3D) ruined it.

I used to like it but as I grew up and started to like older, manlier Shonen anime I started to realize that the story was dumb (not that the stuff I was liking was smart all the time.) and really cheesy to the point where I couldn't stand it. I can handle it well now.

I honestly think that Street Fighter The Movie with Jean Claude Van Damme and Raul Julia has a better story. That's right.

Oh and does anyone take the Kingdom Hearts cast seriously when they fight wearing clothes (Mainly Riku and Roxas when he's in Twilight Town hanging out with Hayner, Pence and Olette.) like they got them from Hot Topic?

Well, how are we defining "manlier" in relation to Kingdom Hearts?

That really depends on what you mean by that.

I was going to have the SI for my fic act like an something of an adult to Riku's flustered teenager and Sora's ditzy man-child.

An actual responsible (or you know the closest thing to one) adult who is actually completely annoyed (it almost goes to outright hate) how everyone outside of his immediate circle of is acting like a teenager and how their going to defeat the New Organization XIII or the Legions of Chaos like your typical Shonen protagonist, not really taking it seriously. And when you combine this with what he went through and the fact that he regularly curb-stomps them by straight up fighting them, cheating or them being dumb and the SI taking advantage of it just lowers his opinion of them even further. Basically becoming the Kingdom Hearts equivalent of HK-47 (or well a Pragmatic Hero version) also doesn't help your increasing reputation of being a total Jerkass.

Being 'manly' is quite honestly so subjective that I shouldn't have bothered.

I don't mean to be harsh, but this is starting to sound like a Hate Fic.

I mean, these are not Serious Games For Adults - they are, at most, rated E10+.

Having your Self-Insert curb-stomp the main protagonists...I feel like that might be a little much. I'd encourage more respect for them - if I'm right about the role you have planned for the Destiny Islands trio, I think they should at the very least be able to fight him on even terms.

No, when the the SI and his OC go to the academy they'll be surrounded by other OC's who do the things that make him so irritated. Like the Paladin OC I talked about, for example.

When the fanfic begins Kairi and Riku are on the front line while Sora is on shore leave.

Either way, they'll only make cameo appearances until, like, the training arc is over. And even then they won't even meet with the SI directly until like an arc or two after that.

Okay, what exactly is the general stance you're taking towards the series in all of this? What are you trying to achieve here?

Tearing through the 'i haz a keybld, i getz to advanture wif a canon character' fan-plot so hard it will be scary while simultaneously reconstructing SI and OC fics by realizing that the Kingdom Hearts deep down when you get through the weird logic and cheesy scenes with SE-brand angst from certain FF characters and II!Riku is a combination of Shonen and JRPG tropes.

That said people can get annoyed if someone makes the same speech and fail to live up to said speech.

Actually, I would liken Xion more to Toki or even Rei than to Kenshiro- hold the phone, since when did you read my fic???

My hacked Xbox where I had most of my arcade fighting games malfunctioned on me and I pretty mad so I decided to do something else. So I read your fanfic.

If I may be so blunt, I didn't read it until now because Larxene is a major character and she's my least favorite character from the Organization XIII. I've seen her archetype (violent sadist) done so much better (Hazama from Blaz Blue, Iori Yagami from King Of Fighters and the entire casts of No More Heroes I and II) and whenever she laughs I get a headache. I am so not joking.

To be honest I fell asleep after reading it and I usually don't leave reviews to the fanfics, even the one I like unless I was asked.

I'll admit, one of the main reasons I love Larxene is because of the scene right before her first battle in re:COM:

Larx: "Oh, Sora, our hero~! You simply must go save the Distressed Damsel from the bad guys!"

Sora: "Thnx lady!" <goes to do so>

Larx: <kicks Sora in the gut, nabs the tragic keepsake, and dangles it in front of his face> "Just one little detail: I'm one of the bad guys!"

I mean, that's not the exact verbal exchange, but it gets the point across. It's a sort of a Love to Hate kind of thing, I guess?

Late to the party, but as far as making Kairi "badass," I think the key is to not make it feel forced. When I included Kairi as a major character in Antipode, my intent was less to make her a super hardcore awesome fighter, but more to explore the character dynamics between her, R Iku, Donald, and Goofy.

The thing with Kairi is that she's a character who has a LOT of room to grow. She may be sweet, she may be pure of heart, and she may usually carry herself with a sunny demeanor, but that isn't to say she's ALWAYS happy/cheery/perfect. Kairi is shown to be reckless. Kairi is shown to blame herself, suggesting some insecurities. She can be easily frustrated, and while she means well, she's not always the most tactful (let's take the raft and go, etc).

The key, I think, is to develop her naturally. Good characters are good characters and skill level should come second to the writing.

I was really brainstorming on how that Nomura is going to make her badass as a possible player character and I guess I just posted that on impulse.

I'm so glad that I set my fanfic ten years after II, so I can have a Star Trek: The Next Generation vibe with the main characters and the tone of the story being complete different.

He'll probably just throw her into the fray. It worked for Sora and Riku, whose "combat training" basically amounted to playing with toy swords.

Ain't no need for those scare quotes. We've all seen what those kids do for fun. A Destiny Islander tossing a ball around is more dangerous than your average malevolent spawn of darkness.

Personally, I'd say the girl with the jump rope runs circles around the guy.

Um, I was wondering if I could have Traverse Town be destroyed by the New Organization because of the high frequency of people there so they can make more Enigma.

...is Traverse Town even destructible, after Sora locked its Keyhole?

Well, there are still Heartless on Traverse Town and all the New Organization need are the people not the world itself.

They could raze the town, but the world itself would remain intact.

Basically it would be like destroying civilization on Earth, but Earth itself still exists.

Right, I get that, it's just that the way the question was phrased brought to mind a more Earth-Shattering Kaboom-esque interpretation.
