Yeah, and whatever crazy shit that happens that isn't Disney related is usually his doing anyways.

Does anyone mind when people write Kingdom Hearts darker then the source material? I mean I talked about it with those grimderp snippets from Spacebattles.net and my fanfic having the war is hell thing as a selling point along with making the villains having actual motivations other then 'Bwa ha ha ha!' for doing evil things.

Personally, the important thing to writing darker and edgier fics is to remember the themes from the series and adapt them to the story.

Giving the villains actual motivations is, I think, a good thing.

That said, there is a limit to how far you can go before it gets intolerable. Your heroes need to be likable, I think.

What "grimderp snippets" are you talking about?

I certainly don't mind, given that I usually end up doing the same thing (though in Brutality, I don't quite go as far as War Is Hell).

Giving the villain(s) a motivation has nothing to do with making something grimdark, it's just good writing.

I am of the opinion that dark fics (for any work, not just KH) are usually not enjoyable, as they are rarely done well.

That's more a symptom of the author(s) than it is of the genre, though.

Just because hardly anybody ever manages to do it well doesn't mean that it CAN'T be done well.

I'm actually considering downplaying the War Is Hell theme so it can be somewhat light hearted.

It's decidedly not my thing, I'm afraid. I don't think I'll be of much help.

So I have a question: How would you make Kairi more badass? And I mean in general.

I don't think she needs any badass upgrades, she just needs to do things. She's got a keyblade, I understand there's some Word of God that she was the toughest person on the islands after Sora and Riku left (and this is a community where the kids seem to amuse themselves mainly by assaulting each other with makeshift weapons), she's got the motivation to go forth and adventure. She's got all the ingredients she needs to be badass, she just doesn't get to show it because she's forever being shoved in the background.

Let her be the player character.

Seriously, that's all you have to do.

I would assume being a Princess of Heart gives her the ability to use exceptionally powerful light-based magic, she just need to be trained to use it.

Party member and/or boss fight are also acceptable.

Why would she be a boss outside of sparring? I doubt anything affiliated with the darkness could possess her.

Sparing match/test.

If I were doing Brainwashed and Crazy with her, I'd use mind control that didn't necessarily depend on darkness.

There is the Berserk spell.

I was thinking a tournament fight, a la Cloud, Squall, Yuffie, and so forth.

No. Meta would be if they fought Sephiroth, and he becomes Dangerously Genre-Savvy and saying how the player (read, player, not character) is a masochist.

Hmm, I see. I guess I can make the SI and his two OC friends from our world just snark and make fun of his Scrappy status.

Also, should I highlight the difference between Sorcerors and Mages?

What's the difference?

Mages study their craft and can only use spells in their respected schools where a Sorceror is a small scale Reality Warper. Just about anyone can be a mage but a Sorceror is born in strange and seemingly circumstances.
