Hopefully most of the internet has forgotten that one of this show's executive produces is Seth Mc Farlane
Of course, don't you know anything about ALCHEMY?!- Twin clones of Ivan the GreatIt could be worse, dudes. At least it's not being sponsored by Koch Industries, like much of PBS.
I'm a skeptical squirrelI've been waiting for this since it was first announced. I thought it was starting last fall, and I set my DVR to record anything with "Cosmos" in the title back in September.
Fresh-eyed movie blogI can tell MacFarlane really wants this to succeed. It's airing Sunday at 9 EST. That means Family Guy's timeslot was moved for this show.

Mac Farlane is actually a cool guy when he's not trying to be funny. At least that's what it looks like to me.
And the award for most crowbarred-in political comment goes to...
But frankly, I think for Fox to make a series like this is brilliant, because it will reach an audience that...let's just say that otherwise might not be ardent consumers of science.
EDIT: Tyson interview with io9.

Schild und Schwert der ParteiNope, just NewsCorp, Fox's parent company, owned by plutocrat Rupert Murdoch.
Fresh-eyed movie blogI don't get why he thinks people wouldn't think Fred and Wilma are connected.
If I'm going to be honest Mc Farlane's involvement is the only reason I'm somewhat interested in the show.

Fuck Mc Farlane, I'm interested because its Neil Degrasse Tyson. Hopefully this can have a positive effect on the american population, since they're sliding towards the dark ages.

Watched the first episode. AMAZING! One thing to note is that at the end of the episode, Niel talks about how he meet Carl Sagan when he was a teenager. It was a nice personal touch.
it was very nice. I liked that they still gave Pluto a mention even though it's not a planet. I think this is going to be a great series.
I'm baaaaaaackThe multiverse part at the beginning was staggering.
I'm a skeptical squirrelWhat's the tropes for overstuffed asteroid belt and Saturn's rings acting like waterfalls?
"Show us the Galaxy Warp."That's one of them, what's the trope for boulders flow like water?
Made an attempt at it on the page.

"Show us the Galaxy Warp."Yeah, I noticed the asteroids too. I'm willing to forgive that and Saturn for Rule of Cool. (Although I know there will be some viewers who will not feel the same way.) Anyway, I LOVED how they showed Jupiter. The texture of the planet's clouds reminded me of an oil painting!

what'd they dowith saturn?
I'm baaaaaaackShowed the rings being a bit too dense.
Not Three Laws compliant.Star Trek Voyager was more accurate. And Voyager made the ship bigger than one of the rings!
I'm a skeptical squirrelIt wasn't that the rings were dense, as much as the snowballs bouncing off of the ship, curving around it and then forming a wake.
"Show us the Galaxy Warp."I've only gotten past the opening sequence and I'm already tearing up. So beautiful!
Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.Did not know this was a thing.
Going to watch it.
on the one hand, you'd think a science education show by such outspoken physicists would avoid Space Is Noisy, but on the other hand, if you can't have an awesome rumbling whoosh as you fly by Saturn in the good ship Imagination, when can you?
They've obviously invested a lot in the music, which is good. But this is a bombastic, epic score, while what I loved about the original was the haunting, ethereal beauty, and I was hoping for a sound more like "Vangelis got an orchestra".
Fresh-eyed movie blogOf course Saturn is very noisy on the radio dial, but don't expect to hear that here.
"Show us the Galaxy Warp."
So, Neil deGrasse Tyson is doing an update of Carl Sagan's iconic documentary series. "Cosmos: A Space Time Odyssey", will be on FOX on March 9th to you lucky Americans. Don't know when it'll come to the UK, but I've got plenty of Attenborough for the meantime.
Here's a new trailer, with much Inceptionery BOOOOOOOONGS:
