I always think that if a good or mediocre image is replaced with an image that isn't any better, it should be changed back to the original.

Thanks for pointing that out; since this is part of cleaning up his mess, I've gone ahead and flipped the old image back. Not so sure about that caption, although I suppose it works well enough.

Yeah, old pic is better. Better quality, and it's more unambiguously romantic as opposed to the other one, which just looks like hugging.

Having this issue
while looking for replacements... unfortunately. Mostly images of little girls embracing each other warmly.
Also, how is the current significantly any different from this?

Because one is based in actual romance, this one however is just a close friendship which looks like romance.

The fact that they're all seemingly wearing school uniforms doesn't help either.

not having looked at the pages, the second looks a lot more "intimate" with the intertwined fingers and blush. the first looks more like an oddly close friendship.
exactly and that's the only thing differentaing them from each other. Interlaced fingers and blushing with their cheeks together.
It's enough of a distinction but it still feels pretty close....
True, I admit. but the devil's in the details. having now looked at the trope pages it seems I was able to more or less glean the difference from the images alone speaks to their effectiveness to me.

◊ cover art from Girl Friends do as a replacement for Schoolgirl Lesbians? It would make more of a difference between the two pics, and make that trope's relationship aspects more clear.

That 'about to kiss' would be great for Schoolgirl Lesbians. The nose to nose works for "Romantic" Two-Girl Friendship but I think the intertwined fingers and blush would be better.
