I've never really liked Green Lantern; I've always found his concept to be too ridiculous.

[up]How is a space cop and more ridiculous than Billionaire Genius Detective Martial Artist Scientist Strategist Goddamn it what can't he do? Or Superman's concept? Or Thor's? Really, in any setting with aliens, the idea that there would be an intergalatic organization of cops who police the beat they grew up in makes sense.

The alternative being that you either have the space cop distracted by events back home or you just blow their planet up at birth so they're never troubled about it.

Personally I'd give the ring to Benjamin Tennyson, so he could try and freak out his sister by projecting gross "alien" forms around himself.

There is a lot of empty space in Space. Why wouldn't a GL hang around their homeworld? Sinestro hung around his and kept things safe.

Isn't Ben Tennyson is an only child? Unless they've changed that in one of the innumerable sequel series...Gwen is his cousin, not his sister.

Anyway, that makes two shows for Flash, in addition to spotlight appearances in two other shows and yet Wonder Woman is mysteriously absent save one failed pilot that never got aired because it apparently turned Wondy into a Complete Monster.

There is no need for another Wonder Woman show.

How can you top a show where Wonder Woman uses a death ray to slowly disintegrate Hitler's clone?

[up]We don't just need a Wonder Woman show, we need a Wonder Woman something of any kind. Cartoon, live-action series, movie; I don't care.

So a Live Action Teen Titans Go with Wonder Girl replacing the Boy Loser would do nicely, no? [lol]

[up][up]For the most popular female superhero and a part of the Trinity that Superman and Batman are part of, Wonder Woman does not have nearly enough media outside of the comics, and that's the issue.

SBFF would be decent guest stars for the Flasher. Their adult supervisors would be overpowering, even one on one, but because they're girls they'll have to defer to the man of the series. evil grin

Guys, it's not the "space cop" thing that bugs me; it's the "summoning giant, glowing tanks out of a tiny ring" thing. Also, Bats and Ollie are cool heroes. If you were to be extremely wealthy, you could easily afford cool tech, learn multiple martial arts, and other things; it's not really too ridiculous. Superman is another story, though; I generally don't like God-Mode Sues. Thor is just a bad adaptation of the Norse god, but I can handle him. (Bacon Maniac 5000 would despise my saying that.) I have no problem with improbable superheros, as long as they aren't idiotic.

What's wrong with a psionic-based weapon?

Addition: Psychic-based? Whatever the cooler term is.

Not completely familiar with the series, but aren't GL rings just really advanced alien tech?

The rings use the power of an enslaved lifeform.

113: And yet alien who uses the power of yellow sunlight to make him capable of destroying entire solar systems with a sneeze (lolSilverAge) is perfectly plausible? Also, Superman isn't a God-Mode Sue. Being powerful is not a prerequisite or that trope, the creator of which really oughta be shot because the various Sue concepts really do more harm than good.
115: Yes.
116: The rings are capable of functioning without the Ion entity powering the battery.

Why not just hand out the rings that are weak against yellow light to aliens who are powered by yellow light?

Well for starters most Kryptonians seem to be douchebags. Supes and co. are more the exception than the rule. Not really the kind of people you want with a ring (then again they let Sinestro have one even after the whole Yellow Corps fiasco so really they're not in any position to make that call)

My point of calling Supes a Sue is that he's just too damned perfect, sans occasional cardboard, and the fact that he can be taken down by a chunk of green rock. And the aformentioned Cardboard Speech solely exists to make him into less of a God-Mode Sue or a Purity Sue, which doesn't work too well. Why introduce his psychological need to hold back, and then scarcely mention mention it? Also, kryptonite usually fails to issue him any lasting harm. In short, he's just as boring as Hal Jordan is cheesy.

[up]Superman can be interesting. The fact that Smallville lasted for 10 seasons, and Superman The Animated Series lasted for 4 is proof enough. It's just that the most vocal parts of the fandom are impossible to please; either he must be PERFECT, or introducing character flaws of any kind make him not Superman. He can be a bit of a smart ass, make human mistakes, or have other normal emotions; it's just that too many people don't write him that way.

Also of note is that many of the superheroes we're talking about have been around for decades, and have had many iterations with different quirks, characterization, general setting, and even genre. So it's really hard to say that a character is inherently boring (otherwise they wouldn't have lasted so many decades and wormed their way into public consciousness).

I'm not saying that he can't be interesting; I'm just stating my opinion that he usually isn't. And I just generally don't like Capes, with a few exceptions. Supes isn't even my least favorite DC character; that honor goes to Green Lantern. Aquaman is a close second, and the only reason why I didn't put him in the "top" spot is because he's occasionally tolerable. Anyway, I'm willing to argue that his status as a Trope Codifier is the only reason why the Man of Steel has lasted for so long. He's spawned so many expies that he no longer seems as relevant, in comparison.

[up]Fair enough; if that's what you don't like, that's what you don't like. (I've had people jump down my throat for not liking Batman that much.) But for the heroes you mentioned, it's mostly the concept? Because Green Lanterns are easy to match against threats like Red Lanterns or the Sinestro Corps, and there have been multiple Green Lanterns who carried the title with various personalities.

Yeah, it's just the concept. I don't mind their individual skill-sets and personalities.
