There's no situation where Deathstroke isn't the worst for what happened with Terra, even if she initiated it and said Rock my world or rocks to yo face, people are still gonna hate him more.

[up][up]I believe some attempts at making Slade more of an antihero have indeed established Terra as the initiator.

Personally, I've always preferred Slade as a scumbag who occasionally has some, some, but not many, morals, especially as a way of contrasting with Deadpool, him being a good guy at heart but with some hilariously warped senses of right and wrong.

Terra being the more evil of the two between her and Slade will never go over well with the audience because that characterization is far too loaded with outdated sexual politics and views of consent.

This isn't to say making Terra a blameless, perfect victim is the right choice (and no retelling of the story besides Young Justice animated portrays her that way).

I'm pretty sure you can do the Judas Contract without Slade sleeping with a teenager.

And the writer supposedly was on record to say it was to show how evil TERRA is. Which is uhhhh....

You can also have Terra be pure evil, but sleeping with an older man isn't exactly the same thing as blowing up a bus full of nuns.

John Ridley in his Other History of DC book calls a spade a spade and explicitly calls out Slade and Terra and how everybody reacted to it.

The best you can say about Deathstroke in that situation is that maybe he was only doing it to manipulate Terra, like a more evil version of that scene from Evangelion, but that's not really what we get from the original story. It seems mostly added to show how evil Terra is, with Slade as kinda the victim of it all.

[up][up] And John Ridley is a writer who portrays Terra as wholly a victim and ignores her own evilness.

I remember people pointing that out when the issue came out.

Slade committing statutory rape and not getting the Rape Is a Special Kind of Evil stamp on him is something they could only get away with back then because it was the eighties. If a villain did the same thing now they'd become The Friend Nobody Likes to supervillain meetings like Dr Light did

Unless of course the genders were reversed. Nightwing is sadly proof of that

[up][up] They are miniseries all staring new Asian characters by Asian creators that ran last year.

Spirit World starring Xanthe a Chinese nonbinary person by by Alyssa Wong with art by Haining, The Vigil a team of Indian superagents by written by Ram V with art by Lalit Kumar Sharma, and City Boy a Korean man by Greg Pak with art by Minkyu Jung and Sunny Gho.

Good to see more advertisement for these series. Hopefully we get continuations greenlit.

[up][up] When I first read the Wikipedia article on Tarantula and writer Devin Grayson's statement that he never used the word 'rape' in regard to Catalina Flores and Dick Grayson, only that it was non-consensual, I spent a long time trying to figure out how that sentence could make sense. I didn't succeed.

Its sad that Dick's gotten even more oversexualized and thus harassed as a result.

The Harley cartoon was fucking obnoxious with the ass-jokes to the point of putting but-cheeks on Dick's coffin when he died.

I kinda mentioned before how the fact that Dick has been raped multiple times and not one of those times has been treated as the horrifying, traumatic experience it is - with one even being treated as if he cheated - says a lot about how horrifyingly far Double Standard Rape: Female on Male can go... or maybe just a lot about how quick people are to memoryhole especially terrible stories.

In regards to Slade and Terra, my feeling has always been that including that scene was just one huge mistake that should've never happened and every adaptation or follow-up that just excises it entirely is vastly improved by that decision, while stuff like "Other Side" that brings it up constantly is almost as badly written as the original scene because all they do is high-handedly moralize about something everyone already despised and rightfully regarded as a disgusting mistake that marred an otherwise great story, acting like the writer is some brave warrior for spouting an opinion that 99.9% of the fandom shares.

[up][up]

My feelings for the Harley Show have dipped, mostly due to this season.

That being said, it's a comedy going out of it's way to take the piss out of the entire DC universe (Alfred had a Clown Superhero alter ego for a bit), and since Harley is the main character, she does have to kinda look good.

But yeah, the Coffin Butt gag for Dick is something I can understand as annoying. If Dick hadn't already gotten hundreds of butt jokes levied at him ( and it hadn't been Harley who killed him, although it was when she was sleep-walking so she didn't know she did it), I'd have probably found it hilarious.

It's a bit of a double-standard there. Like if Power Girl was subjected to nigh endless boob-jokes, there would probably be more arms over it.

Like there is a hypocrisy there where the show delves into the harassment Harley and co face but they unironically objectify Dick without any self-awareness.

[up][up] I feel like the people who keep bringing it up are mostly Deathstroke haters who advocate for the character to he retired and never used again from pure hatred of him.

And John Ridley is a writer who portrays Terra as wholly a victim and ignores her own evilness.

That's because she's only a victim in the context of her relationship with Deathstroke, and not the titans. The issue that bit is from is about Batman and the Outsiders, so it'd frame Terra better.

Wolfman and Perez were really high on the Terra is Kitty Pryde but She's NOT the sweet girl next door

like there are alot of DC villains that have done alot of shit over the years that makes trying to turn them a problem

IE look no further then Star Sapphire

where Carol has relasped one too many times that most people don't buy the Predator excuse

Wait, but smoking is considered evil now, to the point it is looked down at when you have heroic characters doing it in fiction anymore.

I do think it is a pernicious habit, personally...
