[up]Uhhhhhhggggg.....

Alright then, I'll cook something up. Either a sniper, or something that'll build up to be a Heavy Weapons character when I have enough bottlecaps.

Okay, so standard concussion grenades then or fragmentation ones?

  • Name': Jacob Barrett
  • Age: 28
  • Sex: Male
  • Appearance: He's pretty dark-skinned (even for a black guy), and tall, standing in at about 6'5'. His head is cut close to bald, but he grows a thick beard and mustache that he trims meticulously. He's certainly in shape and well-muscled, but lean as opposed to conventionally bulky or 'large'.
  • Personality: While even people close to him could describe him as a bit of a short fuse, it's also clear to the observative person that Jacob has a strong sense of right and wrong, and that his brashness often motivated by a desire to keep the Vault (and it's denizens) safe. That being said, he's high maintenance and prone to stress, frequently mulling over the consequences of any given action before and after it's taken. If actions can be taken to solve a problem without anyone knowing it, it's something Jacob will shoot for.
  • Starting Weapon:A Cowboy Repeater, handed down to him by his father.
Secondary Weapon: Silenced Pistol
  • Starting Inventory:
  • S.P.E.C.I.A.L. Scores:
    • Strength: 6
    • Perception: 7
    • Endurance: 4
    • Charisma: 3
    • Intelligence: 5
    • Agility: 8
    • Luck: 7
  • Tag Skills:
    • [Guns]
    • [Sneak]
    • [Lockpick]
  • Trait:Trigger Discipline
  • G.O.A.T.: Anger Management Councilor
  • Birthday: March 36, 2133.
  • History: Jacob was always told by his late father, who served as chief of security in the vault, that it was a 'miracle' that he was born where he was. As it turns out, his family hadn't actually been allowed in vault 45, or at least not at first. It was only when his his great grandfather, Clint Barrett had defended the position from attackers despite having been rejected that his family had been let in. From there, basically every male Barrett has worked in a security position.

Most definitely interested, though I can't post any ideas now.

I'll try to cook something up through the weekend.

[up]Cool. Like I said, I won't start this until at least the latter half of next week, so you got time.

@Tricksterson: I'm not completely sure. The game doesn't specify, and the wiki doesn't say anything other than 'standard', but my gut would say fragmentation. Since it's based on the M79, and considering the blast radius, I'd think that the 'standard' one is roughly the same as the HE-fragmentation variant of the 40mm grenade. And then the http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/40mm_grenade_(Fallout:_New_Vegas)#40mm_grenade.2C_incendiary incendiary variant]] would be more like a concussion round, except it also makes everything also on fire. And since I don't want to be super anal about this game, the grenades are basically going to operate on a "It exploded, it hit this person/thing, they're dead/injured" level most of the time.

@Jacob Barrett: He's all good except his backstory. Save for any sort of secret plot things you guys wouldn't be aware of, nobody knows where Vault 45 is*: , and the door's never been opened*: . The Vaults are remarkably well hidden and tend to operate on total isolation - your characters are the only ones on the surface who will know where it is. At the same time, nobody in the Vault has any idea what it's like out there, or if other people even live on the surface. All the weapons you guys are taking are to fight off the wildlife that might be out there like wolves (giant mutant things like a radscorpion are far beyond what anyone in a Vault could predict). It's not like Fallout 3 where that door's been opened plenty of times, where you've got radroaches hiding in every nook and cranny.

Okay, I'm fine with that.

Would it make sense for him to have the Survival skill having been locked up in the Vault or do you want me to switch it out for something else?

[up]It's perfectly fine. Like I said, people in the vault have a lot of free time, any skill can be handwaved as something they've learned in their life.

[up][up]Yes, absolutely. All the player characters have spent decades in the vault, I don't expect everyone to be able to completely sum that up in a couple sentences of their history, really just write the highlights you feel are worth mentioning, or any 'big' thing. The rest of their history, especially with how they got along with the others, you can work out with other players as much as you want.

By attackers, I'm assuming you mean the people who were fighting to get into the vaults when the bombs started dropping? That's perfectly acceptable, then.

[up]No biggie, don't worry about it.

Would you mind, N Man, if I changed a point in my S.P.E.C.I.A.L towards strength? I just found out that some of the rifles have a strength prerequisite, and I didn't account for it. If not, that's fine, I'll accommodate.

Anyone still making a sheet, you've still got a few days, I won't start this until at least Thursday or Friday. I might even wait until Sunday/Monday - I know weekends are usually busy, do you guys prefer the end of this week or the start of next week?

I had a little bit of time so I put together starting inventories for you guys. If you had two weapons with bullets, I did a 2/1 split, but if you prefer more ammo for the secondary just say so. Oh, also, I included specifics about how many bullets you have, but that's more for giving you a rough guess of what you've got - try not to worry too much about micromanaging all that (unless you really like that sort of thing), since unless you're firing off one bullet in every post, you won't really have to worry about things per-bullet, but more like per-magazine.

  • Wyatt Kinsler:
    • 2 magazines for his Varmint Rifle (10 bullets total)
    • 6 magazines for his 9mm Pistol (78 bullets total)
    • 4 stimpaks
    • 1 super stimpak
    • 2 doctor's bags
  • Voltaire Arounet:
    • 9 magazines (I guess for a revolver, they'd be speed loaders or moon clips) for his Police Pistol. (54 bullets total)
    • 2 Radaway
    • 2 Rad-X
  • Max Geistner:
    • 9 standard 40mm grenades for his rifle
    • 3 frag grenades. (Be really careful with those)
    • 3 sticks of Dynamite. (Be really careful with these, too)
  • Jacob Barrett:
    • 4 clips for his Cowboy Repeater (44 bullets total)
      • His dad's rifle has the long-tube modification now. (Unless for some reason you don't want it)
    • 3 magazines for his 22 pistol (48 bullets total)
    • 5 bobby pins

Three quick notes for three of you.

  • @Infinite: For doctor's bags, I think the game's mechanic of physically carrying multiple bags is silly, so you can imagine that even if he has 2 of them in his inventory, he has just one bag of the required tools, and then he has enough of the perishable components (morphine, wraps, etc.) for 2 uses. That way when you feel like carrying around more of them, he doesn't have like six bags of stuff banging around.
  • @PBlades: While I'm going off of the New Vegas prices for many things, for chems, specifically Rad-X and Radaway, I'm keeping with Fallout where they are really expensive, but also the Radaway lasts a couple of hours, not just two minutes. Figure that their value is like 200 caps each, so keep that in mind when you're barterin'. Though I suppose no one's going to know what a cap is until you get to civilization, so he'd probably just think of it in money terms until then.tongue
  • @Tricksterson: One of the aspects of the survival shtick in New Vegas's SPECIAL is that food heals you more. So to better reflect that he's got experience/knowledge of surviving, in addition to the regular survival stuff you're expecting, you can also imagine that he has an extra 2 days of food/water he can carry. (So 10 total for him, with this current survival level)

Edited starting inventory into character sheet.

So correct me if i'm wrong but our party consists of a Medic, a Merchant and two Vault Security Officers, one specializing in explosive ordinance and the other taking to the more conventional firearm?

As for when we start, I should be good as early as thursday evening, as i've got my last final for the semester that morning.

I suppose I'm not late to a party just yet. Let's see how this one goes.

  • Name: Sonia Richardson-Flayer
  • Age: 22
  • Sex: Female
  • Appearance: Sonia has a very light shade of blond hair kept in a long braid, to the point of appearing almost white. Rather pale, she's got noticeably big blue eyes. Nothing in her face seems excessively ordinary, apart maybe from a small scar on her left cheek. Stands at 5'3''.
  • Personality: At first, it seems she's a paragon. Selfless, polite and courageous, she fears no foe and takes every problem she faces with stride. While this is largely the truth, she can - if necessary - be a little more deceiving if she needs to. She prefers to abstain from violence if the enemy can be reasoned with, but will not hesitate to defend herself. She is also a little too eager to help out others to the point of naivety and way too idealistic for her own good.
  • Karma: Good
  • Main Weapon: .357 Magnum with all mods.
  • Secondary Weapon: 10 mm pistol.
  • Starting Inventory: To be filled
  • S.P.E.C.I.A.L:
    • Strength - 4
    • Perception - 5
    • Endurance - 5
    • Charisma - 7
    • Intelligence - 8
    • Agility - 8(9)
    • Luck - 3
  • Tag Skills:
    • Guns
    • Repair
    • Speech
  • Trait: Small Frame
  • G.O.A.T. Result: Vault Loyalty Inspector, much to her confusion.
  • History: Despite her rather intimidating last name, Sonia always thought of helping others. Picked on by other kids due to her small, sickly frame in the past, she managed to grow a spine and soldier on through the difficulties with the same pleasant smile she seemed to have through her whole life no matter the situation. Is it a mask or is she being genuine, no one can say for sure. The thing is, she agreed to aid her Vault without much thought, at the same time intrigued by the outside world. Saying goodbyes to her parents and her little brother, she embarked on a quest to find the Waterchip alongside fellow Vault Dwellers.

Hope this is all fine and dandy. :)

[up]Yup, she's good.

Although, since I can't think of many starting items to give her to compliment her skills without weighing her down too much, and since you gave her such a cheap primary, I think I'll just have you swap out her 9mm pistol to an unmodified 9mm SMG, so that way she'd start with the SMG and the revolver. That sound alright? If so, would you prefer starting with 2 slots of ammo for the SMG and 1 for the revolver, or the other way around?

Also I should probably not try and launch this right when everyone's having finals, and busy moving around and doing other end-of-quarter/semester stuff, so I think I'll start this early next week to avoid putting another thing on your plates for this week.

Hmm. We don't have a Science-y focused guy, and no CQC specialist.

...We're pretty low-tech for a vault dwellers group.

I think that'd mean he is a Science-y guy.

I was really going for the Smart Guy role, not the Medic. He's officially a Medic within the party by my own choosing but possesses the capabilities to be more then just a healer. Two of his tag skills, Science and Repair, could have many uses outside the medical office. On top of that, Wyatt has an 8 in Intelligence, the highest of the whole party by a long shot (discounting the new signup). By the games standards, that'd mean he'd have Science bonuses in particular but Intelligence here is simply how smart you are and how fast you learn. Meaning, out in the wastelands where there's a computer to hack, Wyatt could learn pretty easily to do a lot of stuff he'd never need to know to simply heal - disabling security measures or reprogramming a Mr. Gutsy or two, should he ever get the rare chance.

Which would, in turn, make Wyatt less of a liability out there. tongue

@GM: I meant to do her more as a gunslinger-type of character who uses both weapons at once and that way makes up for her inferior choice of firearms, so SMG would be kind of conflicting that image.

I'm thinking that maybe both of her weapons just get fully modded instead so she can have a little flexibility outside close-quarters shootouts, with 2 clips to the revolver as her main weapon and 1 clip to the pistol as her secondary, more specialized weapon.

That could work, if that's what you'd prefer. Another option could be giving her a 10mm pistol to replace the 9 mil. Though keep in mind that trying to shoot both pistols at once is highly inaccurate, and probably not the best thing for conserving ammo.

@IP: Max has melee weapons as a skill, plus high strength, so that CQC role isn't totally empty.
