The current pic on Gunslinger Girl is rather poor quality, and it bugs me that one prominent character isn't in the shot. How's this as a replacement?

Dunno. I'm not sold on the half-faces.

It's a works image so I think as long as the main characters are there it's good.

[up][up] I couldn't find a good cast shot that included all six of the girls aside from that one...for some reason, they seem to uniformly ignore Petrushka. It's made from this.

I can put together a collage of shots from the actual anime if that's preferred, but I like the faces in that particular pic.

I'm fine with the suggestion in the OP, though don't let me get in the way of getting images from the anime (or manga, since that's the work's original form) for a similar collage. grin

Better, and I say acceptable.

Yeah, better. Still looks more like something you'd find on a character page, but it works.

Either suggestion is passable, if not spectacular.

The only other thing I could think of that might improve the latter collage would be to superimpose the title over the middle in a white blur/cloud/light/something, as long as it doesn't obscure anything important. That, however, is beyond my skills and tools.

Thought occurred to me last night at work: Why not just use the title image? The small font writing is illegible with it shrunk down to 350px wide, but that line isn't really relevant to the title image anyway, and is already the page quote so removing it from the title image wouldn't lose the line. The title itself is legible, and the sillouhette is still pretty obvious even shrunk down.

[up] That's an option, but it's kinda bland in comparison to the other two. That's why I was thinking combining it with the second collage would be a good move.

Well, someone else will have to set that up, I don't have the tools or knowledge for that kind of thing.

Perhaps we can find an image that shows both? Like this or this?

[up] Neither one of those addresses one of the fundamental issues I have with the original, which is that the red-headed character is ignored. She doesn't come in until later, but she's no less important to the overall story than the others.

Also, at wiki size the logo would probably be illegible in that second one.

And (personal gripe) I really don't like the character designs of the anime.

18 is great. It's much better than the current:

Left to right: Claes, Angelica, Rico, Henrietta & Triela. Petrushka's holding the camera.

The pics of them holding their guns don't work anyway because they look too much like Girls with Guns.

Keep in mind that the character page already has pictures of many of the individual characters. The collage suggestion in post number 6 and 18 duplicates one of the character images already found on Characters.Gunslinger Girl. Therefore I would vote against that.

In my opinion, including all the major character on the image for the main work page is less important than trying to communicate what the show is all about in a single image. Certainly a bunch of random generic looking people standing around on stairs does not do that, but I think the best options for the new image would also include more than a bunch of generic anime faces.

I'd rather have something that is simpler and more evocative, like one of the following.

  1. Single character firing gun
  2. The front cover (right) side of this image.
  3. This cover

[up] Very important that you mentioned that, I know this but I was just trying suit Willbyr's needs with my edit he requested.

[tup] to 22.1

EDIT PS: @Lexicon, Gunslinger Girl is the image for Girlswith Guns and is the perfect tragic deconstruction of it, in all forms... so using a image with them shooting should not be an issue.

[up][up] That's a fair criticism. Of the ones you suggested, I like the first; here it is cropped and at wiki size.

Catbert's considerations sound fairly convincing. Also, I like Willbyr's newest suggestion.
