Effective, even if it is really cheap, to the point of inducing Narm in several scenes (such as the infamous opening).
Hmm... The Exterminator, for one.
Thou Shalt Not Kill... Except is another.
As a point of trivia, the first "crazy shell shocked Vietnam veteran" film was apparently Forced Entry.
And because you love to mention porn.
That too.
According to the booklet that came with the DVD, the director thought he would run into less legal red tape (or something) if the film included some kind of social commentary, which was attained by adding psychobabble quotes about PTSD, and by having the stalk/rape/murder and Freak Out scenes be intercut with actual war footage.

Who watches the watchmen?84 Charlie Mo Pic. Now that's an obscure one but it is brilliant.
For the record these films are not even close to accurate in portraying PTSD. They are more responsible for PTSD myths then accurate portrayl.
Who watches the watchmen? What about The Deer Hunter? Cause that film I felt did a really good job at portraying it. Probably one of the more mature takes on it as well.
84-Charlie Mo Pic isn't really about PTSD. It's more about what happens when a LRRP goes tits up way out in the ulu.
L Dragon: Not even that one. It is just like a lot of the others it only shows a oversimplified view of PTSD which is what a lot of the movies are guilty of.
The issue is that the condition is quite a bit more complex with plenty of variation in individuals.
Tam: Oh I know that. I was just going back over the other posts since the thread was short and caught a blurb at the bottom of L Dragons Deer Hunter post I had missed.

Who watches the watchmen?Bat21, and not just because all the airplanes in it (former bubblehead or not, I've always been a plane geek to one degree or another). At the very least, with Gene Hackman and Danny Glover as major characters it's pretty safe to say there will be some damn good acting in it.

Well, considering that I've asked everyone what their favorite Western and Horror films are, I decided to go on ahead with another genre. What are your guys' favorite Vietnam War films, and why?
I'll start with one of my personal favorites:
Gotta love The Deer Hunter eh? One of the best films in terms of showing PTSD and how the war affected the soldier's mental states and the impact it had on the communities they left behind. Almost like Madoka Magica in that regard.
