Here my two cents after the arc. It a disappointment, compare to the last arc the levels of competent has lower a lot.

1. The villain, No Head Dragon, set themselves to lose a lot of money and by proxy their lives if the First High win, a favorite among the schools. Even if they are sabotaging the events from the beginning why set themselves such a huge risk when there no indication that they needed to.

2. First High fighting tooth and nails to win first place, hard to believe since most of the match we seen are First High Curb-Stomp Battle the competition with by elite, having better gear, and/or how to exploit the rules. The only time they lose is when sabotage occurs. They mention they lost matches mostly on the boy sides why didn’t we get see those?

My biggest grip is Tatsauya I don’t mind OP character, but he OP Hero of Another Story. He serve in the military and is treated as a comrade, work as an engineer that design the best CAD, Tarus Silver, and they even call him young master. You don’t get that kind respect if you not the best. Which bring to question why is he even in high school? If he need license why not take a test already or have the company or military he work(ed) for vouch for him?

Seriously I feel like I am watching a fanfiction where they take a character put him through two or three adventures before he sent to the beginning of the serious with new weapons, abilities, and mature faster. Is there LN about the Irregular at magic military/engineer or the same setting without the OP backing them up? I want to read that.

[up] He's in high school because he's Miyuki's bodyguard.

About No Head Dragon...is your issue with them not betting on First High instead? If so, you clearly have no idea how betting works.

Tatsuya is in the high school, because he is appointed as the guardian of the next clan leader, which happened to be his oh-so-pure-and-perfect imouto.

And yes, that's an utter load of bullshit if you sit down and think about it.

[up][up]No it setting up the betting pool, where they lose so much money that No Head are risking their lives. No head was the house, in charge of setting up the bets of who would win and how much right? If not and they are among the betters why put themselves in such a risk in the first place? Why not at acceptable losses? It carries Too Dumb to Live.

[up] Too Dumb to Live is about it. (I didnn't realize he was killing them till the end. I thought they were just being teleported to a prison or something).

What got me is that they realized where he was and none of them even tried to block the window or get out of sight. How dumb can you be?

What this story really needs is Viewpoint Protagonist (say, a butler or servant of Myuki) who's perspective could be used to tell the story of them following the OP siblings around.

Those detectives were pretty cool, rail gun like powers and a magic surfboard.

Are we just in the next semester now or is it a longer skip? My experience is that student counsels don't switch on a semester basis, so I'm curious. Also my only knowledge of the Japanese high school calender comes from persona 3/4 so...

Philosopher's Stone eh? Careful Tatsuya I hear they cost an arm and a leg.cool

Dat english.

Well I'm glad we seem to be moving away from school centric antics this arc.

The NSC took place in August, so it's been about two months. Mayumi, Mari and Juumonji are third years, so they stepped down from their positions to focus on studying for their University entrance exams.

What else can I say?

He doesn't even need a scope!

[up][up] The English was hilarious as usual. It's actually fine but it's just the delivery of the thing.

Edit: And I also just realised that an ironic tone comes so naturally to me now that my post will look for all the world as though Mahouka has finally broken me and I actually worship Tatsuya. I mean onii-sama.

  • Cool detectives.
  • Ooooh, a Philosopher's Stone.
  • Ichihara has a good judge of character. But it's Tatsuya, so judges of character are irrelevant at this point, I think?tongue
  • Besides, she's lucky that it's a thesis that caught his eye.
  • Ooooh, a magatama. And it sounds like dangerous stuff.
  • Oh no! Tatsuya has instant regen!note  Oh, that English was spot on and funny.
  • Ho ho... Looks like these baddies aren't gonna be incompetent. At least, not No Heads incompetent.

  • Yay, Erika got to fight again. But wow, that Jiro guy sure was tough.

That opening scene was actually hilarious. Troll Tatsuya is best Tatsuya.

Miyuki was in this ep. She was walking home with the rest of them about halfway through and had tea, she didn't speak though. I did find it strange she didn't once praise him. Actually pretty much no one did, prolly why I enjoyed this episode.

Between 6 and 8, I'd say. Quite a number of quirks keep it from being particularly liked, but it's hardly bad as far as overall quality goes.

I would give it a 5.

  • Production quality/animation: 8
  • Writing: 3
  • Characters: 2
  • Unintentional comedy factor: 7

It has the some good ideas(the magic system is a good example), but kinda fails the execution.

  • Hm, Tats and Miyuki aren't getting a lot of focus this arc, I've noticed. This...is side character country now. How odd, to be demoted to extra at the tail-end of the anime's run.
  • Hey, it's been a while, Sayaka and Kirihara dude. ...And Ms. Troublemaker's agenda has been revealed. Enacting vengeance on Tatsuya, huh? Well, she didn't know that it was the FREAKING NO HEAD'S fault in the first place, so...
  • Hot darn, you really can tell when Erika switches to Serious Mode.
  • Leo will now learn to stain his hands with blood. Joy!tongue
  • Leo and Erika, taking the day-off together? Whatever could it mean? Tatsuya, as usual, is right on the mark.tongue
  • Jumonji's a Terminator, isn't he?tongue
  • Looks like everyone knows that Miki/Mizuki's a thing. And... Mizuki service! That...was uncalled for! Was it really necessary to put her through that routine?
  • Sekimoto... I thought he was another guy. But I'm wary of him now...

I have to admit, it's amusing to see other characters reacting to the fact that the Shiba siblings are broken as h**l.

There were a couple of God things about this episode like the training and the focus on characters not called Shiba.

But gee it's like they felt they had to shove the side character fanservice scenes in somewhere. It's like Mayumi can't even move without invoking a cliché.

I misread that as Chiba at first; although that isn't far from the truth, along with the fair few prodigies that from some of the finest Japanese Magical Families that comprise some of "Team Tatsuya".

  • Nice action at the hospital. Nao's hot-stuff, and Gonghu uses the Tiger stance. Sweet.
  • Not to be outdone, Mari showed off her scented Blade Dance. And Mayumi was cool too. And Tatsuya was back-up instead of the lead. Oh yeah.cool
  • Poor Gonghu. It seemed he didn't get the memo; going after people affiliated with First High is a big no-no. And I thought he was more than Dumb Muscle...
