Does this count as a Character Title now?

Also...The Glasses Come Off.

Considering we have three(?) episodes left I seriously doubt Akkey is dead. Mirai has probably just broken the last seal on his Youmu side.

Episode 9. In which the fearsomest youmu and the the hungriest hunter face off.

With a little sisterly encouragement, he gets a little more powerful. And distracted. But less so than encouraged.

I wonder how that big fox can carry that little kitten...

They were confused about why his youmu form was weaker during the Calm? Unlike all other youmu? I get the feeling something was lost in translation...

"I don't think it's fair calling him a pervert after going through all his stuff." Good point. Was wondering if someone would bring it up.

"Are you hungry?"
"No."
"So something did happen."
Excellent deduction.

Having an On the Next like that usually makes me think they're leaving out some crucial details.

You know, overall, I've got to say they're making a good show of having a period of youmu weakness come off as far more menacing than what's normal.

For a minute, I actually thought Mitsuki was thanking Hiromu, not her familiar.
I kinda think that was the idea.

Unless I read my subtitles wrong, they did say his youmu half was weaker, they just hadn't realized his human half would become so much weaker at the same time that the youmu half could still be strong enough to take over. Of course Izumi was lying when she explained all that since it was her who deliberately weakened Akkey before the Calm.

So all that time when Mirai was trying to kill Akihito was to test out the extent of his powers because she was told to do so. I think it's even implied that the only reason she was even in town was to kill him. Also, if Akihito has the Kyoukai no Kanata, what does that say about his dad?

On Izumi's part of the character page Obviously Evil: She's stoic, reserved, elegant, distant to her little sister, focuses a lot on reputation, and stole the Hollow Shadow from Mirai. But subverted when it turns out she's actually the closest thing to a Big Good shown in the series yet.

Can Double Subverted when she turns out to be evil all along be put in in light of recent events or is it too early to make that claim yet?

Episode 10:

  • Akihito, I thought you would show more happiness to waking up to first see a glasses-wearing girl.tongue
  • That's...not...omurice. At all.tongue
  • Sakura's a to-the-point kind of person.
  • You worried Mitsuki a lot, you know. That's why you're a ghost to her.tongue
  • What's up, fellow pervert?tongue
  • Well, this episode was pretty funny. Can't wait till next we-
  • ...What? All of that was a dream? And that's just a fragment of Mirai? Uh oh...
  • And then Akkey finally wakes up. With no Mirai in sight. Except her glasses.
  • Turns out, Mirai knew who he was, and was already prepared to kill. But after interacting with him, she decided to save him at the cost of her own life. All according to Izumi's plan?

Episode 10. In which seasons change.

That's not a look to laugh at. It's cute.

It takes a special kind of effort to fail that badly after so many tries.

"Mirai, he may be a lost cause." Yeah, if he doesn't get it by then...

Yeah, totally no more bonsai than previously.

Him fanboying over Mitsu's sunglasses and swimsuit, and her being dryly caustic. All is right.

That's a good flick. And an even better block.

That sunburn...

Mirai totally has no problem being likened with him.

Listening to what Mitsu says may not always lead to accurate conclusions.

And then there's a whole lot of explaining and twisting and foreshadowing and backshadowing and... And I found most of it to make rather good sense.

Special 2.

"Yeah, okay, so moe I'm gonna die." *impatient tapping* That about sums it up.

The scene changes were too confusing. The flashback ones were simple and clearly labeled (albeit gratuitous), but the other ones were disorienting.

If I take a step back it's easy to figure out what happenned. I think the main problem is that this episode wastes too much time. The backstory need only have been implied but, even if you wanted it spelled out in its entirety, they're still too long.

From the date counter I found out just how much time had passed in between episodes, and I think it was more than the narrative concievably lent gravity to.

Messy.

Thing is, if you shorten things down, it tends to get messier. Much more condensed, which means more things happens close to each other. I didn't have much trouble following it, and I'm pretty sure it was meant to be somewhat disorienting. Answer a lot of questions, raise a lot of questions. Mainly, what actually happened?

I put it to you that for such a small amount of significant revelations the disorientation would have been the same. They could even have fitted this in at the end of last episode, but of course then they don't get as many death cliffhangers.

Either way it would still have equal relevance but I wouldn't feel like for an entire episode they were trying something way too high level for this quality of writing all the while waving mysteriousness in front of our face as though that alone should excite us.

Does anyone else find the whole "Aki and Hiroomi are PERVERTS!" thing to be incredibly tiresome and not remotely funny? They can hardly get through a single episode without bringing up Aki's glasses fetish or Hiroomi's crush on his sister. I'm only on the 8th episode and I don't know if it's an attempt at humor or something. It's part of the reason I don't really care about the characters in the series.

Okay, the transitions in this show are bad. This episode doesn't have any excuse, but they only put more blank space in between incredibly minimal interaction.

This is like they rushed just to get to the action.

And there was almost less content than last time, so how they managed to be rushed at the same time is quite impressive.

I'm pretty sure half the time with Akkey the glasses thing is a defence mechanism. Like back in episode 4 when Mirai's all "why did you come to save me?" and Akkey's all "because you look good in glasses" I was just instantly "lol, BS". It's clear her situation resonated with his and he was just making excuses.

That's like Tsundere 101. It's basically a rule of how anime characters interact. From Jerk with a Heart of Gold protecting their feelings to the rival using I Was Just Passing Through to protect their image.

Episode 11. Which is not unpleasant.

Izumi's quite shackled. Which makes sense, really, considering a lot of other stuff about that family.

So, essentially, Mirai's fighting the combined strength of countless youmu and warriors. Eh, she can take them.

I guessed right about who sent that note. Weren't really that many people left... Mother and son interact pretty much like I expected.

So that's what that stone was. That makes a lot more sense. Probably.

I think this episode worked well. Pacing was good, leading towards to the finale. Not rushed at all.

I find it funny that Mirai, the character that was immediately defined as "moeblob" and flat, is pretty much the only one that got a well defined and well handled CharacterDevelopment, in the end. plus: actual agency, regardless of being the subject of MaleGaze.

Kyo Ani was clearly trolling us all.

She really keeps the series together for me. If it wasn't for her, I probably would have never gotten invested in watching. Sakura has been a pleasant surprise as well, and the only other character who's had anything remotely close to character development.
