-Google- It sounds exactly like Sword Art Online. But I got fed up with SAO like 2 volumes in, so maybe it will do it better.

Not at all likely, since it's still got Romance as a genre.

Loves feel-good animation a whole lot.

[up] It's made by the same guy who wrote Maou Maou Yuusha, so we can expect better writing. Plus the lead is a spellcaster!

Saw the first episode. Already this is more fun and I'm liking this more than SAO. It's nowhere near as serious, has a more colorful and fun cast, and it sets up things well enough for the first episode.

Y'know guys, SAO didn't invent the whole 'stuck in an MMO' thing. Lots of iterations of it exist.

One thing i've noticed is that "stuck in an MMO" things tend to not make it seem much like an actual game (in that gameplay mechanics and other game-world relevant details are glossed over) though, for some reason.

I'll keep watching this since I have no reason to dislike it (other than maybe it being more amusing if the assassin girl stayed as a in-game male character...also, I cringed far more from learning that the food there has zero flavor than everything in that one not popular anime showed. I'd NEVER be able to handle getting stuck in an MMO like that) but i'll probably avoid this thread because...well...look at my username.

MMORPGs are serious business.

Heheh. Yeah, I suppose this thread must pretty hard for you to read.

Well, no offense to any shows here, I just think that from premise and execution combined, this is a better and more welcoming first episode than SAO

Same as usual.... Wing it.

The thread isn't hard for me to read (yet), it's just that what comments i'd have about the show/other's (future) opinions are likely to conflict in ways that I'd be wasting too much time on, and it's not like I have a reason to poke into this thread enough to possibly start the flaming since i'm not too interested in the show itself, and for some reason this show already attracted a fair amount of SAO haters elsewhere. Oh, and my very presence would remind people of what to compare this show to even when they normally wouldn't, I guess.

MMORPGs are serious business.

I think our main cast here has been placed in a worse position than the people of SAO. Sure, they might not die for real (they don't know yet), but sometimes not knowing is scarier than the opposite.

They don't know what the hell happened. They don't know if dying equates dying for real. They don't know how to get out of the game. They don't know if much of the game has changed due to the update.

In SAO, Kayaba was at least kind enough to answer the first three questions, and the beta testers figured out that last one pretty quickly (damn you Illfang). Sure it didn't help the mental states of most players, but sometimes it's better to have some confirmation.

Give the God Eater game thread some love!

Episode 1. In which there's gender bending.

The opening reminded me a lot of Yuusha Ni Narenakatta Ore Wa Shibushibu Shuushoku O Ketsui Shimashita: action-packed fantasy that's not all that true. I kinda wonder why that idea picked up just now, as it's really an easy way to throw someone into a different world.

"You're either an open pervert, or a closet pervert." I think that goes for just about anyone who's not asexual, male or female. According someone on the Internet, anyway.

I actually liked the reintroduction info on Akatsuki. Was a nice touch.

"Shiroe, Is it okay if I knee this strange man in the face?" One, she asks Shiro, not the strange man she kneed in the face. Two, she did it after she kneed him in the face. Which they pointed out.

I wonder how much Aka is herself, and how much she's acting out her role in the game. I find that rather interesting.

"Tastes like a soggy cracker. With no salt." That's kind of bland. "All drinks taste like water." That's not too bad, though. Water does have a good taste, and it's one you never get sick of as long as you're not filled up too much. Personally I just don't care that much about the food. If it's edible and satiates my hunger, it's decent enough.

I like Marie. She's energetic and positive. My first thought was that she was a G.I.R.L., which would be hilarious, but then I remembered that they have their own voices.

So, that "if you die in the game, you either escape to reality, or die in reality," question is still open here. Which makes sense, since they're all clueless as to why they're there. But hey, try it out. It's a 50-50 chance! The next-episode preview kind of says that the answer is neither. They're trapped.

Walking ED. Partially, at least. And not at all shipping fuel with Aka showing a brilliant smile at Shiro, and that rainbow...

I'll be following this.

And I'm writing this without ever mentioning SAO.

[up][up] Think of it this way. While not original, the "stuck in MMO" thing was rare enough now that comparisons to the most well known current iteration are to be expected.

Did they intentionally pick the worst possible opening song for this? Just totally didn't fit for me. Needs to be either more or less metal. However....it was the only thing I didn't like.

Elder Tale: Is it The Elder Scrolls or Tales Series or both? Seems more the first one so far. I hope we get a snarky dragon.

Never saw SAO, but I like this so far. Not super original so far for this sort of thing(hasn't really gone far enough), but it's well executed. I the main trio so far. They fit their roles well. Akatsuki being sarcastic fits really well.

I like that we'll get the humanoid races. Interesting that some people choose to stay as them.

[down] I'm not really that familair with them either. Only games from both I played are Skyrim and the really, really old Tales of Destiny. Seems very Eldar Scroll ish really. I think the only interesting implication of that is the non-human player races(like the cat people in the ED, I'd expect lizards and a few others also). Also...no dwarves. Skyrim had a significant crafting portion also, so that could come in and be interesting.

[up]I'm not wondering about the comparisons. The comment was really more on its own. I wonder why it was so rare before.

The name probably references both. Not that uncommon to have those mixed-name references. Not that I'm familiar with either.

At least comparisons to SAO is understandable for this show.

[up][up]About the humanoid races, it's not that they chose to stay like that, there isn't much of a choice. The body changing potion was a limited item that was released only once, the assasin was lucky anough to know someone who carried it around.

According to Wikipedia, it is not. From the information posted on there, it doesn't seem like it.

holy crap Chinese servers? Did we finally get recognized by everyone else?

This didn't thrill me, but I'm going to keep watching. At least it doesn't take itself seriously, so even if it isn't great, that it should be able to meet the viewer's expectations.

The ninja assassin looked so much cooler in her original form (as a guy).

The kitty! at the end definitely makes me look forward to episode 2. smile

Loves feel-good animation a whole lot.

Buh, had to trawl 4chan, of all places, for extra info on this Context is important yo!

What I learned in the process:

  • Apparently the pilot episode condenses two days worth of events, and switches some events around for better flow (Akatsuki joins in day two, for example), but in the process leaves some stuff out (like how Shiroe apparently loathes the site of the adventurers just sitting around in despair).
  • The reason why there are more NP Cs now is, well, because they're pretty much real people now, as far as the situation is concerned. Meaning they have their own families etc, and even levels... Except when they die they dont conveniently respawn at the cathedral.
  • The fight we saw was extremely exaggerated in the anime. In the novel apparently Naotsugu was taking only single-digit damage. Hmm.
  • Getting drops isn't actually a thing, and Shiroe and co had to messily butcher, skin, etc. those weasels to get sellable stuff.

Sounds promising.

Dang it, it's based on a novel? One with six volumes. And a sizable stack of manga. Frustrating.

There's also apparently an online-only sidestory, featuring players of the US server cluster trying to get to Japan.

You can fly across the eleven servers, without having your stats reset?

Why can't real life MMO be like this?
