Duplicate Trope: About Roleplaying Games

The content of this page quite significantly overlaps with that from Role-Playing Game, namely, the trope section.

Also, it has only two wicks, and both from maintenance pages. Is there a case to make for a merge?

The page is on Orphaned Pages, which looks like an interesting page to go through to put up Not Thriving tropes.

I'd say merge any content that's not already on Role-Playing Game to that page and then cut this one.

No it's not. Role-Playing Games mentions Tabletop RPG. If "About" has more content, we'll move it over.

Mentions, yes, as in how those are the origin of the video games, but the article is specifically about video games.

How much of the content still on About Roleplaying Games is copied from other pages? Originally it duplicated the work indexes from Tabletop RPG, Western RPG, Eastern RPG and Action RPG.

^^ That's because videogame RP Gs are by far the more visible (and popular) incarnation of the genre. I don't see a problem.

For example, Action RPG is videogame-exclusive because it just doesn't have a tabletop equivalent (though there is LARP)....

Yes, I agree this just needs to be smited and any non-duplicate examples moved to Role-Playing Games.

I just think a page called Role-Playing Games should refer to all RPGs^* except weapons, rather than have some disclaimer about being mostly about video games, is all.

I think they are distinct.

I would be in favour of using Role Play Game for all RP. Using a term more narrowly than the rest of the world is bad practice.

I compared the source code from Role-Playing Game and About Roleplaying Games. The vast majority is directly copied over, with a bunch of lines deleted. There are very few additions, which are in the introduction and adding Hub City to the index. It also adds the adjective "annoying" to NPCs. About Roleplaying Games contributes nothing of value, and only serves as an unnecessary duplicate. I say just ax it entirely. It won't be missed.

It's just what I feared.
