I feel it inferior to the suggestion in 1 because it is too cluttered otherwise around the sides and top to really focus on the character.

I prefer the OP in the sense that the focus is on the weapon, and not just some generic Ms. Fanservice who happens to be using the weapons. With that said, the OP's suggestion has a significantly wider aspect ratio, so one of those may be better because it will scale more easily to 350px

@Drifting Skies @ Willbyr: My main rationale for the Sun Ce suggestion in 8 was to show the tonfas being used in combat. Though, I admit that it could be made clearer. Will search for others though.
