Ambiguous Name (New Alt Names crowner 10/5/2015): Mac Guffin Girl

Here we are: Sandbox.Living Mac Guffin, Sandbox.Animate Mac Guffin, Sandbox.Mac Guffin Hostage, Sandbox.Mundane Mac Guffin Person, and Sandbox.Mac Guffin Super Person.

They all need a bit of help (and I haven't even started sorting the examples), but Sandbox.Animate Mac Guffin is the worst.

About the names, Mac Guffin Hostage is perhaps a bit too close to Hostage for MacGuffin. And Animate Mac Guffin doesn't say "transformed into human" to me, more like Animate Inanimate Object.

Even Animated Mac Guffin would be better, but not by much. Mac Guffin To Girl?

i suggest you put those in the YKTTW (starting with Animate Mac Guffin, which implies a macguffin that moves, or is alive but not organic, by the way.). i don't think you'll get a lot of help here.

btw, i think Galatea Macguffin works. remember Galatea? the one Aphrodite gave life to because someone loved his statue so much?

To quote my own post at the end of the last page:

We pretty much just need a name for Animate Mac Guffin, and to sort the examples. That's a TRS issue, not a YKTTW one.

Anyway, Galatea's myth (in addition to being one of the more obscure myths) has a number of implications to it that we don't want. Once we have a few alternatives, we can run a crowner and put it on there, but I don't expect it to do well.

Upvoted Mac Guffin To Person. Not very snappy, but it gets the meaning across.

MacGuffin To Person is somewhat harder to work into a sentence, though.

"MacGuffin To Person" sounds like a McGuffin is being given to a person (or a girl); that doesn't work as a name.

Galataea is... a brand of ice cream, I think? How is that related to the trope?

So what definition are we naming again?

Ooh. In which case only Animated Mac Guffin gets my vote because I see "animate" used as an adjective means a pre-existing or inherent quality of something and not something that actively happened to it.

Of course, Animated Mac Guffin has its problems too because we're not talking about animation vs. live action. So nothing gets a good vote from me then.

Nothing comes to mind, and that's a problem. I'd like to avoid a repeat of 'If You Know What I Mean' where the final name isn't a good name but instead was just less bad than the given alternatives.

How's MacGuffin Anthropomorphosis? I believe that's the technical term.

I'm not sure that's quite the right word. I added Mac Guffin Anthropomorphous to the crowner, but that's not right, and now it won't let me change it for some reason.

Anyway, I think that's the right track, if not quite the right word.

The noun form is 'anthropomorphism', however all variations of the term suffer the connotation of being an inherent, passive quality (most obvious example: anthropomorphic animals and Furry Fandom) and not something that actively happened to it.
